I blame the CS. I've been blaming the CS. If we don't make the playoffs, at least we have a shot at Cowher. My biggest nightmare is Cowher going to the Bills and us sticking with Mangini and the rest of this CS. The Dolphins are not an easy out, they are a well coached football team that seems to always be in a game through 3 quarters, and looks to win it in the 4th. They can't win a shootout, but I don't know that we can force one of those anyway. I am very worried about Miami. We need to win out, or at least try and win the next 3 before Miami.
We will beat the Bills amd the season is not over but we are not a good team, especially in the secondary and WR's. Its not going away, any team with a passing offense will score on us and if you take away the quick passes off the line as team have the last 2 weeks, Cotch and Coles are useless. And right now, we can not win on the coast
That's fair enough, but I don't feel the Jets played or coached inspired football today. Top teams with tough mindsets would not have laid back-to-back eggs like this.
This team was never going to the superbowl. They didn't make those free agent signings with the idea of making a run just this year. They are rebuilding this team. They tore it down and built it back up. I believe the goal was to compete this year and next year to be a top level team. I think it's very clear to anyone that watches that we are still a few pieces away from being a Superbowl team. This isn't Madden where you can spend $140 million and win a championship. Faneca, Jenkins, Woody and Pace filled huge holes on this team but the goal wasn't just to win a championship this year it was to fill the holes and be competitive every year going forward. We clearly do not have the speed on defense to stop most nfl offenses and we clearly do not have a dynamic receiver that scares anyones defense down the field.
No, the goal was to win the superbowl, or else they would've never brought in Favre. And when you go 10-6 in your first season as a HC, it is reasonable to say that 2 years later, the goal should be to win the super bowl.
Bottom line: the offense carries this team. If the offense cannot score or sustain long drives, we lose. Our defense plays better if we have a lead. Mangini needs to understand what works for our offense. Thomas Jones has been great the last two games, yet he has had few carries. We need to run the ball a lot more. If the other team starts to put 8 in the box, have Farve audible or run a play-action pass. It is no coincidence that the only catch by a wide receiver today (made by cotchery) came off of a play-action pass. I think our offense is still very capable of scoring. We need to score and hope our defense can manage. It sux that a defense that has this much talent cannot stop teams on third down. We can still make the playoffs, but we need to win every game. Lose to Buffalo and I will root for the Jets to lose the next 2.
This team is in the bottom 5 in the league at stopping the pass. We were able to pressure a lot of teams QBs when we were on a roll and that lead to wins up until the Tennessee game. If their WRs hold onto a few more balls, they convert 1st downs and keep on rolling and we'd have lost. This team has not stopped anyone in the passing game by actually covering WRs. This will be the demise. How did Miami get back into the game in week 1? How did the Chargers embarass us? How did KC make is so close? How did Arizona put up 35 points in a half? It has become so bad that teams are using it to compromise our run defense because we overcompensate to stop the pass, which we still cant do. Shithead Sutton doesn't know what the fuck is going on. The blitz packages worked early but now they are all on film and they've been figured out, and he has nothing left. Schottenheimer is becoming that Chad-era play-caller again. We have a running game now, if you aren't going to use a QB to complement it by going short, medium, and deep, then keep Chad, who will make good decisions and probably be more accurate! We might make the playoffs, but we are not an elite football team. I thought Oakland was a fluke, but it wasn't. We are not the Steelers, that's for damn sure. There is a very good possibility that we could lose the rest of the games.
It's not just that we lost, we got utterly dominated in both games. It's pretty hard to be confident or care much for the reason of the season if that happens.
I'm not sure exactly what "relaxing" means here. It's not my head on the line here, so sure, I'll be able to sleep tonight. But if you mean that the chances are still excellent that the team makes the playoffs, I don't agree. Even if they beat Buffalo as they should, how can anyone be completely confident about a game on the west coast now? And in case you haven't noticed, the Dolphins have played better than the Jets have for a while, with the exception of the one Tennessee game. Even if you put the probability of them beating Buffalo as .9, beating Seattle .8, and beating Miami .7 (and I think those are generous numbers), that makes the odds of them winning out only about 50/50. Since it's very possible that 10-6 won't be enough for a playoff spot, there is a very reasonable chance that they're not going to make the playoffs.
Every teams goal is to win the superbowl but to say because we got Favre that we would win a superbowl is ridicilous. We won 4 freaking games last year. You can't say that any result other then a superbowl is a failure. Just making the playoffs after a 4 win season is solid. What happened in Mangini's first season has nothing to do with this season. This team is improved but still flawed. We had a joke schedule and no injuries.
