This whole idea would only make sense to pull off as a one time gimmick to try and confuse Brady and the Pats for a little while. It wouldn't work for more than a few drives even until they made their adjustments and just attacked on the outside where Revis isn't able to help. If we do get past KC and get another crack at the Pats, I think Rex is going to throw the kitchen sink at them on defense.. Revis might end up playing all over the place. I wouldn't mind seeing him take the slot and cover some of their TE's from time to time. I'll take my chances with Deion Branch against Cromartie or a Coleman/Pool double team going deep if it means we can take away Welker and the TE's over the middle, which has become Brady's bread and butter.
Our defense is flawed. Without a premiere pass rusher to consistently generate pressure without sending the house, any good quarterback can just avoid Revis and Cromartie, and take their time waiting for someone to get open against our safeties and linebackers.
This is why you can't pay Revis $20 million a year. The best cornerbacks in the world can be nullified with no pass rush. Unless you have 5 Revises.
We would be moving him just to protect ourselves for the rest of the season. That sounds like a terrible idea short term and long term to Revis and the Jets. I hope I am not the only one who doesn't cry over Revis not having any picks. Nobody throws to him, and when they do, we all have never had such certainty that the pass is not making it to the WR. Ha come on, don't get all emo because no one agrees with that theory.
No but I wouldn't mind seeing him as a blitzing linebacker once and a while. I'd love to see him steamroll anyone trying to block him. As for the OP, I don't see how this would solve anything. Even if you put Revis back there and he morphed into Ed Reed, you'd still see our corners getting beat when the QB is studying gamefilm for next week in the pocket while waiting for his 3rd or 4th option to come open.
The opposing team's best receivers are being shut down regularly, what exactly isn't working with Revis? So our secondary gave up 3 TD's to Cutler...without Revis playing where he did they probably would have given up 5 and we wouldn't even have been in position to win the game on our last drive. The OTHER issues on our defense are making some of you guys forget what a disadvantage a team has when their star receiver is nullified in a game. They have to pull plays out of their ass to win...and our opponents have been able to do just that because we have some glaring weaknesses on our Defense. Revis is fine. Without him we'd be losing games by 20 points.
Take the best corner in the league and give him a new position.. I like I like.... Is this a new variation of getting mind fucked ? I keep feeling like im missing something.
This thread is really another way of saying how ridiculous it is to throw the insane money at CBs, period. No matter how good they are, they are at best complementary players. Without a pass rush, you need all-pros all over the secondary at every position to beat good teams. The money would be better spent on someone who can eat up QBs. They are much more valuable.
If memory serves, jenkins came out in obvious passing downs? We need a monster OLB to rush from the edge. And, frankly, I'd like to see more of Gholston believe it not. He seems to get a decent push into the backfield, which disrupts timing, but he doesn't really get enough snaps.
