There's a big difference between circumstancial evidence and actual video. Of course the NFL is probably lying through its teeth when they claim they never saw the video.

I wonder why this took so long to surface. While we all probably should have known he punched her and did so hard enough to knock her out, the actual footage is shocking. It makes the NFL look bad, too.

This has nothing to do with equal rights. No one has the right to attack anyone else. Stupid argument is stupid.

after his first strike on her, you have the right to self defense. He struck her twice with closed fist and she didn't move towards him till after his first strike. at least thats the way the video shows...and if your going to refer to that little slap in the hallway before the elevator....please.

This shows how moronic Goodell is. So knocking out a woman in an elevator is only ok if there is no video of it. What a hypocrite.

A picture would've been bad as well. What kind of woman lets something so degrading be filmed? I'll tell you, a slut that's who.

If only Ray Rice used his backhand, none of this would have happened. NEVER under estimate the power of the back hand!

Not sure that's true...I believe if you are cut for reasons other than performance, specifically violating league policy such as drug use, arrest, etc., the team not only doesn't owe you the remainder of your contract but can recoup some of what was paid in the order of bonuses. Actual salary for the year they'd have to sue to recover. The Patriots didn't have to pay the rest of A. Hernandez's contract when they cut him.

I think we can condemn Rice's acts without irrationally dismissing her acts and pretending like she was some helpless, innocent victim who did not behave in a manner that provoked him. I watched that video, she struck Rice twice in the face before he hit her. should he have hit her? of course not. but let's not act like she was just standing in the elevator ignoring him and he attacked her.

our society has a developed strange apologist mentality that wants some words, like provoked, completely erased from our language simply because we don't like the factual dynamic that it communicates -- to stimulate or give rise to (a reaction or emotion, typically a strong or unwelcome one) in someone.

I'd say slapping your man as you walk by him, then shoving him in the face when he approaches you, describes what the definition of provoke is meant to describe. I'd say slapping him and shoving him gave rise to his strong and unwelcome reaction of hitting her.

what have we learned in recent months?

black man reportedly attacks cop, cop defends himself = black man the helpless innocent victim, cop the villain.
black woman slaps black man, black man retaliates = black woman the helpless innocent victim, black man the villain.

at least we know the hierarchy. black men are victims unless a black woman is involved. black women are our most delicate citizens that can never be at fault. got it.

I think the punch between two lovebirds is a private and lovely matter.

But allowing it to be filmed ?

    Attention seeking slut.

Hahahahaha. This. 100% agree, this is just Goodell covering his name. He won't come into as harsh of fire because he suspended him indefinitely now (even though he completely overshot his 6 game suspension for 1st time offenders policy). Right time to do it too for the Ravens, after just coming off a loss (better than a win because that would kill their momentum). These franchises have billions of dollars, how the fuck did TMZ get it first. Time for people to open their eyes and see things past the ESPN perspective.

I don't have a problem suspending him or cutting him when it happened but after he has been disciplined I think its quite hypocritical. As Overload said above it is hard to believe the NFL and the Ravens have not seen this video before. They are only taking these actions to cover themselves because of the negative public reaction towards Rice. I have a problem with this double jeopardy punishment. He has already been judged and punished. To change the punishment simply to pander to the public is wrong. I hope Rice appeals. The NFL may have made a mistake in the original punishment but they should live with it and move on and let Rice live with his mistakes and let him and his wife attempt to rebuild their lives.

Rodger Goodell should be fired immediately for one reason and one reason alone.

    - Every time he suspends guys like Gordon for pot, Welker for molly/adderall, Mathis for fucking medication he was using to help him and his wife have a baby, (essentially off the field things), he says it's for conduct detrimental to the NFL.

Goodell's handling of this situation was been a 1000 times more detrimental to the league than the things the guys above did, and they all got suspended for no less than 4 games. Goodell had the facts already. Ray Rice knocked out his girlfriend in an elevator and they tried to drag her out. Period. He decided to give him a 2 game suspension because he is a star player on a team that pulls in TV ratings and he is a "fantasy" running back. It really doesn't fucking matter if there is a video of it or not, it happened. The NFL is a multi-billion dollar business and if you think all of the money is coming in from men you are sadly mistaken.

Now the headline on every single news outlet (not just ESPN) is about Ray Rice and the video is being replayed over and over and over and over. All over social media that is all anyone is talking about. Goodell should have resolved this in a real manner months ago but instead let it drag on and after the 1st NFL Sunday of the year, no one is talking about the games. At this point it doesn't matter if Goodell suspends him for life the damage is already done.

If I was an NFL owner I would want Goodell fired immediately.
