That's what I'd like to know BUT it wouldn't exactly shock me if this came to pass either. If there's one state where Rice still has some fans and supporters it's New Jersey. I don't see the point though, Chris Johnson was better than Rice two years ago and HE was awful last year.
Why does he deserve another chance in the NFL? He can have another chance in life, but just because he has athletic talent and skill doesn't mean that he is entitled to play in the NFL imo. Playing in the NFL should be an honor and a privilege reserved only for those who can stay out of trouble. It is a violent game, and the last thing a wife abuser/beater needs is to be around something that makes him more violent or keeps that anger and violence alive within him. He needs to be in counseling so he has a chance to straighten his life out before he winds up in prison.
Googled this guy's name and this picture came up: Clearly, he parleyed for good information. Time to panic!
That incident was the first we've ever heard in regards to anything negative being attributed to Rice. By all accounts before that he was a model teammate and person. Do I know the guy, no I do not , but throughout his career I've never heard a peep about him being in trouble. I'm not saying your points are crazy, I believe there's an argument to be made for both sides in this , but my opinion is that the guy deserves another chance and still has some gas left in the tank. I wouldn't be opposed giving this a shot. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well, Rice will be playing for somebody this year..could just as easily be in the state he came from. Johnson is probably gone although with the right play calling he may still be effective and I'm not sure what the plans are for Ivory and Powell.
As long as it's a minimal contract, I have no problem with it. He's a good player and he's likely to not get any real money because of the off the field stuff.
This guy is basically incarcerated Bob. Points out the three times he's right and points out when other people are wrong.
The downside is Rice was already struggling his last season in Baltimore before the incident and suspension. 2013 was his worst year in the league, by far, as a full-time starter. The upside is he will come cheap, his body's well rested and he's still only 28 next season. He'd also be playing in his hometown area of NY/NJ. If he has some of that shift left to go along with the power running style then I think he's worth a look. If he's lost that shift and explosion, then the Jets can do better.
Why, it makes no sense. He is a power runner with some shiftiness like Ivory only not as good. Spiller or someone with that sort of skill set makes sense but to bring in a player that will cause a media circus in the downside of his career with a new regime is madness. I know he can catch passes too but so could CJ2K or Powell. Powell > Rice at this point. I would personally hate this move and if someone made a poll for this I am sure it would back that up.
true, but it's the off season. By the first mini camp, this would be largely forgotten except for when we play on MNF or something. Same thing happened with Vick. I'm by no means saying he's worth anything at this point in his career, but if he was some kind of talent freak than sure, swing for the fences.
I'm sorry but I'm disliking the NFL more and more as they fold to social pressure and try to become the 'Moral Police'.
I would not want Ray Rice simply because he does not appear to have much gas left in the tank, nothing more, nothing less. I'm not going to pass judgment on what he did. He paid the price and it was steep. Same for AP, except I believe he still has much to offer. The NFL can not be the oh mighty moral compass for these ill conceived actions, leave legal to legal, particularly not with the yahoos running it and the ownership at the helm. I don't see people from different walks of life, like lawyers, doctors, truck drivers or politicians be stripped of their livelihood after the court finds someone not guilty of similar infractions. To say that playing in the NFL is an honor at this point is quite laughable, with a political BS commish, cheating owners and HC, rapists, murderers, you name it. If this is the approach we take then someone like Winston should not allow to be drafted. Nor should anyone one else allowed to play that was accused of a similar infractions. The NFL is hypocritical, while sweeping under the rug the biggest danger of all. The violence of the game and it's effects to all players.
