At the risk of oversimplification, a contract exists between two parties when there is an offer and an acceptance. And this is even basically true even if this is done verbally. An oral contract can, in some instances, be as binding as a written one. The problem is, Scott's agent is not Scott. He's not a principle. So there's wiggle room there. Scott can always say, "Yeah, I agreed to X and Y but my agent wasn't clear to me on Z. And I'm not going with Z." ... no contract. Ethically, yes, the agent better get his shit together or, if his client does this to him too often, he needs to straighted out the client or he'll lose his repuation as a negotiator. So yeah, the player might be at fault but it could also be miscommunication between the agent and the player. And the other problem is, even if there's a verbal agreement that both parties agree to, subject to terms and conditions in the written agreement, if even one condition in the written agreement is not acceptable by either party, they have the right to walk. So this is why I say that the more binding of the two contracts are written contracts. Of course, from what we see every day in the NFL, this doesn't always amount to a pinch of shit anyway.
Yeah, Kemo would've been great for Run blocking but he's a big bulky guy and I believe Woody is the same type of guy as well and I would fear that our pass protection on that side would suffer with both of them there.
yeah he basically said that he expects the ravens to get scott at the 5 yr. 42 million dollar deal. Says jets jumped on scott, and it may have cost them by showing so much interest. (I dont buy that) Also said Ray lewis is tied to Scott now. Said Jason Brown won't be back. He also seems to to truly believe that once the Ravens bring Scott back, Ray Lewis will follow. ---------------------- God that would piss me off. I really hope as i said before Scott is locked in Jersey, and will not be moving till he signs on the line. Fuck put a gun to his head, and see what he does. if he still wont sign, pull the fucking deal and go get Jason Brown and Jabari Greer.
I feel like he may be right. If Bart Scott wanted to be a Jet, he would have signed the contract. (I guess I could say the same about the Ravens though)
Guys, this is going to be Scotts big pay day. He is 28 right now, and he's not going to have another one of these contracts ever again, so can you really blame him for trying to milk as much $$ from these two teams as he can? He has all the leverage now that Ray Lewis doesn't seem to want to return to the Ravens. Bal is desperate, so they'll bid high.. Jets seem desperate for him so they'll bid high... while Scott sits back and enjoys the show. It is a business, this is his life, and look what happened, in a span of 2 hours he just got $2 million dollars richer... just like that.. just by waiting. So once again, can you really blame him?!
I think the Jets will eventually go up to like 6 yrs 52-54 million...the Jets NEED Bart Scott to have the dominant defense they want
Do they? The guy is good... but how good is he really? I mean, he was playing along side of Ray Lewis... I tend to think that Ray would make anyone look good along side him.
I agree 100% I don't think he would really fret over going to either place. Probably be happy to stay in Baltimore or go play in NY with his old D coordinator. Wherever the $ is will be the location. I hope its the Jets personally, I hold no grudges against the guy for trying to get more $$.
If he was piling up 8-10 sacks a year then sure I'd say he's not worth the heart ache but he does a lot more than that
Agreed...his just playing the "game." I wouldn't settle for 40 mil if I knew I could grab a few more. As shitty as that sounds its the truth.
A lot of people are acting like it's a foregone conclusion that he's gone...patience my friends, patience...
Yeah, he had 82 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks in his walk year...How good is he? Not only did he have Lewis but he also had Suggs and even Baltimore knew that Suggs was the most valuable of the 3.
