Multiple guys. Hugh Millen got a lot of playing time one year. I hated that dreary game in 92 when Scott Zolak beat the Jets.
I hated Zolak for his antics when the Pats beat us up there in 1992, I hated when BP signed him in '99 and was happy he was cut before he ever played a game for us.
He was kind of an idiot when he played, but he is now a very good commentator on the Patriots Network.
Millen was the guy I was thinking of For some reason I was always getting stuck going to the Colts games when we had our season tix, my brother and I would each get 4 games usually and I always got stuck watching Jeff George or Jack Trudeau throwing to guys like Pat Beach and Clarence Verdan and watching Dean Biasuci kick FG's. I hated the Colts because games against them were always boring. To this day the worst Jet game I ever attended was a 10-6 loss to the Colts in the pooring rain in December. Just awful.
Funny you say that, the one time I was there it felt like a high school game, 1998 MNF Jets at Patriots. I was working in Brockton, drove over on a few local roads, walked through a gravel lot and there were the Jets loosening up by the end zone, we went right by them.
When that stadium (originally Schaefer Stadium) was built, the cost was only $7MM. It always reminded me of an over-sized high school stadium.
I remember when they had that real hard turf field, we'd lose guys every year up there, and those bright flags painted all over the walls around the field. It was around 1991 when they put grass in.
It was 1991, I actually missed that game. The last and I think only game I have missed watching since I started watching the Jets.
It was a good game, up there we beat them that year. That one I think came down to the last play at the goal line and we stopped them. Watched it from a hotel in Stuart, FL, a real shithole.
I went to an Eagle-Bengal game in Philly w/ a friend of my Dad's who was friends w/ one of the Bengals so I was following the score all game long. I think we were up 21-0 and wound up winning 28-21 w/ a goalline stand.
Did you at least have good seats? I hated going to games at the Vet. You talk about your awful stadiums. My uncle who lived in Philly had some big time connections so we'd go to Eagle/Phillie games a lot and always had box seats. Yo don't realize as a kid how awesome it is to get free hotdogs/soda/burgers/chips/pretzels until you have kids of your own and you have to pay for all those things at the stadium. Precisely why I don't drink beer at any sporting event I attend.
Not really, we were upstairs but I did get to meet the players after the game which was fun for a young teenager even though I didn't like either team.
Agreed. Never there for football, I go to Phillie games when the Dodgers come out, just a horrible place. Now that they have a beautiful ballpark it makes you wonder what they were ever thinking when they built all those multi-purpose cereal bowls back in the 70s.
3 Rivers, Riverfront, Shea, Veterans Stadium, RFK, Olympic Stadium, all exactly where they belong. Out of use. I hate going to Dodger Stadium but at least it has charm and ambiance.
Junc, you should go talk to some Eagles fans; they'll tell you how happy they are about all of the Division Titles, Playoff appearances, and Championship Games they've witnessed during Andy Reid's tenure.
Reid has been in Philly since 1999, that's a little different than 3 years and Philly has been one of the best teams in the league during that time. Philly fans obviously forget that their last title game before Reid was 1980 and their last SB app before Reid was 1980. In the SB era Philly had 5 playoff wins pre Reid(1966-1998) and have 10 w/ Reid(1999-2011) If 2009-2021 is as good as 1999-2011 for Philly I will be very happy- not satisfied but happy.
