Sure. 6 at-bats is a huge sample size.

Girardi makes Torre look like Billy Martin.

If you're not going to put Jeter in to hit, you make the awful Melky bunt.

    Stupidity.

    Wow Melky...

Gotta love the runs the last few games since the 9 spot on the Mets...

    Pathetic,

girardi makes torre look like einstein.Unbelieveable stupidity.Fire that fuckin asshole along with cashman and lets start over. And we can add posada to the pile of dh's we have on this team. Just a fine job assembling a baseball team by cashman......we signed posada to his ridiculous 4 year deal because we are trying to rebuild and compete at the same time....not a good idea...so we have a 35 year old catcher who can no longer catch yet we had hughes and kennedy making up 40% of our starting rotation to start the season...does that make sense? As far as gardner goes 10penn, believe me, I have a keener eye than you or any idiot in the entire yankee organization....hes bubba crosby

Why the constant Betemit hate? So many fans hate him, yet all he does is play four positions with 25 home run power easily. He strikes out a lot, but he had an RBI today, something the Yankees seem to have forgotten how to do lately.

Melky, on the other hand, is done in my eyes as a starter. I hate to say it, but this day was going to come sooner (Gardner) or later (Jackson). He's simply not a great outfielder. He's young enough where he can still improve, but he hasn't really shown much improvement since he's been here. Now that his numbers have collapsed, Gardner deserves a shot. He's likely a better prospect than Melky, too..

    0 for his last 19.

Any player in that kind of slump should get a day off unless he's a superstar and has earned the right to stay in the lineup.

Dude is playing terrible. Bench him or send him to AAA to get his head right.

It's not all his fault, but it doesn't help you score runs when the #7 or #8 spot is a gaping black hole.

7 runs in the last four games! 4 runs in the three games since the Mets series.

over/under line for the series finale is somehow 10.5.

Neither team has been able to score against shaky pitching from the opposition, and 10.5 is the line?

I love reading the complaints about Girardi as if it's his fault we cannot hit. It was Torre's fault last year, Girardi's fault this year, if we were ever stupid enough to make a change it would be the next Manager's fault next year. Players have to produce, we are getting good pitching but our overrated lineup cannot hit. That's why we cannot get consistent.

I'm fine with being done with Melky. I have no love for any single player on the team who isn't named Pettitte, Mussina, Chamberlain, Rivera, or Rodriguez at this point. (Wang too, but he's out, so...)

Sadly we're going to the game on Friday. It was supposed to be my son's birthday gift. When we talk about it now, he just hangs his head because it's clear that it's going to be a terrible game. This team can't hit bad pitching. The Sox are going to shit on our doorstep.

As for Beteshit, I don't give a damn if he plays nine positions. I'd rather he played one competently. It would also be nice if he didn't look absolutely clueless at the plate while he's busy striking out.

But more than Betemit, my disgust with Girardi at this point is boiling over. I've been complaining about the coaching for weeks, but it's getting ridiculous now. It's almost as if he's trying to reinvent the game. Why does Betemit even come to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with Derek Jeter on the bench? I don't give a damn what Jeter has done so far this year, how do you not trust Jeter more than Betemit? Then you let Melky swing away when Betemit gets a walk? Playing for the win at home, down one, bottom of the ninth?

I absolutely agree with that statement, and have been saying as much for a long time. But the blame has to fall somewhere.

When the lineup changes every day, when guys sit even when in the midst of getting hot, when poor in-game decisions are made, whose fault is that?

If the manager is never responsible for the product on the field, what does he exist for? That's what gets me when people want to defend the manager. If he isn't directly responsible for the product on the field, then wtf does he have a job for? For that much, just call the captain the manager.

Letting moose pitch to manny in april, that abortion of an idea to sit kennedy waiting for the rain delay and last nights not bunting melky are three of the worst managerial decisions I have ever, ever seen in Major League baseball. There have been countless more stupidities but for my money those three stand out like a sore thumb. Girardi has been no better than willie randolph in doing his job this year.

It's not his fault, but when the team isn't hitting, he can't make dumb decisions like he did in the 9th last night. I don't want him fired, he's fine as a manager, but last night he made no sense.

Putting a minor league lineup in against ollie perez was a little concerning also

Obviously, my fire him comment is reactionary, and not serious. This post sums up my actual thought process exactly.

As jonnyd is saying, last night was one of a number of head-scratchers. Those pile up. I have a short temper for outright stupidity. And last night was just stupid.
