ok so whos got some ideas....im not gonna be the sickening negative fuck for a minute here....what do we do? Do we shoot melky in the neck? Do we bring in an outfielder? do we trade cano for a pitcher? What do we have and what do we have to get? And stop firing these young guys at me for a second. I understand we have some good young players but im talking about this year. Do we just ride it out as is and if we dont make the playoffs oh well? comments?
As I've said from the start of the year, this team probably doesn't make the playoffs. They're playing just good enough to stay in the hunt, but not good enough. The pitching is proving to be just fine. All the starters are pitching good. The pen is pretty good overall as well. They just don't hit consistently. One day they score 12, then for the next 3 they score 2. You're not going to win games in the AL if you can't score 3-4+ every game. I don't think there are enough answers at this point. When Damon is healthy, he's the leadoff man. Jeter has been painful to watch this year. Abreu is either fire hot, or ice cold. Alex is Alex. Giambi has been great. Matsui is out now, which hurts considering he was the best hitter on the team. Jorge is "eh". Cano is consistently inconsistent. Melky has been disappointing. How do you fix that? I don't know that there's an easy answer. Gardner for Melky doesn't fully solve that problem. What do you do about Cano? You can't bring up Jackson because where do you put him? You want to hear my plan? Here's one I've had most of the year and kept my mouth shut about. Jeter's time at shortstop is over. He should be moved to second base. Alex should be moved back to short, and Cano should go to third. Defensively, the team would be better, and it would send a clear signal to the entire team that the Torre era is over and done with. That's part of the problem. While Clueless Joe is snoozing on the left coast, Girardi is busy making sure the team stays the course. Sure, Girardi is handling the pitching much better than Torre did, but the lineup full of All-Stars is doing nothing but collecting checks, as usual. I'd revamp the lineup too. But once I changed it, I'd leave it alone and let it settle. Damon DH Jeter 2B (only because the public backlash of dropping him to 8th might be too much for Girardi to survive.) ARod SS Giambi 1B Posada C Abreu RF Cano 3B Gardner LF Cabrera CF And I wouldn't pull this bullshit of hitting only righties against lefties. This is F'n baseball. If a guy can hit, he can hit. If he can't hit, sit his ass. And F Betemit. Stop playing that piece of horseshit. And stop resting guys twice a damn week. These are grown men getting paid a lot of money to play a damn game. If this team doesn't start hitting, fire Long. I'm sick of hearing Kay say "Well, according to Kevin Long [insert name here] is 'right there' and will start hitting sometime soon". Yeah, thanks. In other news, expect to see sunlight this month. Poor coaching multiplied by lack of consistency plus lack of urgency divided by aging stars equals .500
This lineup is so Jeckle and Hyde, when you give up just 2 runs you need to be able to beat a pitcher like Feldman.
hahah you crack me up bro...the "cool as a cucumber" routine. "maybe a starter"...as if to say we can continue to roll out rasner and ponson? theyll hold up fine you think? I hope youre right. Unless youre just sayin ride it out because we're not making the playoffs anyway....which I said april 1 st. I just hope we havent over blown our prospects like we have for 20 years.....because so far, joba aside, Im less than impressed with anyone.
I'm saying maybe a starter because there might not be a pitcher out there, and if there is, it might cost too much. I do think it's funny that you're saying I'm the one with the "routine".
we all know my routine. But please dont act like you dont have one. Its always the shame shit out of you...acting like everyone else is too impulsive and wants changes while youre this cool cat who knows more than us common folk. Maybe its not intentional but believe me, thats how you come across.
I fall more into 10P's camp myself. Why panic? There's nothing that can really be done now. I disagree with the whole "the lineup will be fine" notion though. It's not fine. It hasn't been fine in years. It's terribly inconsistent. Yes, pitching wins championships, but we've had great pitching this year. Sure, Hughes and Kennedy struggled, and Pettitte had a rough patch, but come on. Joba's been very good, if not great. Pettitte overall has been great, rough patch notwithstanding. Rasner has been more than good enough. Moose has been phenominal. Losing Wang hurt, but we've gotten good outings in his place, game 1 against the Mets notwithstanding. When your pitching staff gives up two runs to the league's highest scoring team but your lineup only scores one against the league's biggest run surrendering team, there's a problem, and it's not the pitching.
im definitely not saying we need to panic...i just think we need to make a couple moves...one would be trading cano for a pitcher. I would also banish melky to the minors for the rest of his life. Then we need to trade for some sort of a legit major league bat in the outfield who swings righty
I don't think we should trade Cano at all. Like I said, I think the infield needs to be rearranged. He also needs a hitting coach that is going to actually tell him what he's doing wrong at the plate, rather than pat him on the back and tell him to just "keep it up, the hits will start falling". Melky would be fine with some decent coaching too. He's got an amazing arm. He can hit when he concentrates. He's fast. It's not like he doesn't have the tools. Lack of coaching is a problem though. It's going to be that way for any player coming up in this system. I agree we need another righty hitter. What is Austin Jackson?
I do think that the Yankees need to make a move for a righty hitting outfielder/first baseman. I also would like a lefty reliever. I understand that it's not easy to get a lefty reliever, but we have some talent to offer teams.
I actually wholeheartedly agree on the left reliever. That's the one position I think we honestly lack. Everything else is something that can be worked with. Ramirez is not the answer to the lefty question. I'm okay with that. Honestly, the way the AL is this year, the chances we make the playoffs are slim. Between the Sox and Rays, plus the Central, I doubt the wildcard is even in our grasp. Next year is fine. The questions are obviously going to start though. Who comes back next year? I'd think Damon is out, just because you can't trust his wheels. Is Giambi a goner? Who'd have thought that would even be a question a couple months ago? What about Abreu? Moose?
They don't need to do anything with Cano. He just had an awful April and has been rather unlucky this year.
I would think Giambi is gone, but this season is definitely making him valuable again to the Yankees. A one year deal or so would be fine for him, presuming the rest of the year goes well.
