Redskins | Team will not cut Ramsey; still hope to trade him
    Wed, 8 Mar 2006 05:27:03 -0800
David Elfin, of the Washington Times, reports the Washington Redskins will not release QB Patrick Ramsey. Instead they still hope to trade him in exchange for a second- or third-round draft pick. Other teams interested in Ramsey hope to surrender a lower-round draft pick for Ramsey.

    ________A___C___Yds__%__Avg___Lng___TD___INT___Rat.
    Ramsey:
    Career _480 _861 _5649 55.7 6.56 --- 72 --- 34 --- 29 --- 75.0

    Kitna:
    Career 1667 2837 18259 58.8 6.44 --- 82 -- 108 -- 104 -- 75.3

    Maddox:
    Career _686 1200 _8087 57.2 6.74 --- 72 --- 48 --- 54 --- 72.4

I don't understand how anyone could claim that they are more interested in Kitna or Maddox than Ramsey. Regardless of the fact that Kitna is 33, Maddox is 35 and Ramsey is 27, you also see by the numbers that Ramsey was never given a chance to succeed in any season as a pro. The most games he ever started was 11 in his second year. He threw for 14 TD and 9 INT with a 75.8 rating.

This guy wasn't given a proper chance as someone who showed so much promise coming into this league. I don't think any QB could have been successful in Spurrier's offense, because as we all saw, his system in Bush-League and should remain in college.

Ramsey has nothing but upside and at a young age, will cost very little to get a former first round pick that was never used properly, nor given a chance to succeed at the NFL because of Spurrier's horrible offense and Gibb's lack of trust in a young QB.

skins want a 2nd-3rd round pick

    we restructured 12 "medium-large" contracts
saved 4 million by chopping lavar
can save 8 million by ax'ing 5 crappy depth guys NOT including Ramsey

ESPN has us at 17 million over the cap

I dont know about you ,but the Redskins will NOT need to get rid of Ramsey based on how the CBA turns out.

They won't keep him. It's going to be Brunell and Campbell this year. The Skins are saying 2nd and 3rd (apparently), but if that phone doesn't ring, they'll take whatever they can get.

true,we will eventually take what we can get,but it's always good to play hard to get so you can take a little more.

Campbell is the future, but we don't need to cut ramsey to get under the cap.

We will keep him til draft day.

    my realistic hopes are

    best- 3rd rounder
    content-4th rounder
    worst- 5th-6th rounder

maybe some team will be stupid enough to give us a 2nd

    Please clarify for me:

    You restructured 12 "medium-large" contracts
You saved 4 million by chopping lavar

And you are STILL $17 million over the cap?

good question. I think his trade value is lower than that, but could perform well enough to justify giving up a better pick.

I don't think he has nearly a third round value for a QB that the entire league knows the Redskins don't want.

They have no leverage and won't get more than a 5th for him...mark my words.

If other teams are interested in his services then his trade value is probably better than a 5th rd pick, but obviously I hope you're right

He's going to Miami and Detroit too! Also, were going to the workout's of the three top QB's in the draft. So nothing is for sure yet!

It just seems like the best fit for Detroit would be Kitna, who has the experience to start, Brees is all but headed to Miami. They only other team that may be interested is Baltimore.

Don't look for anything to get done soon. This has Draft Week trade written all over it.
