While you are entitled to your opinion, having the foresight to know the right time to post that opinion is something completely different. Do you think maybe you should have said to yourself, "Gee I better wait until next week to post that". Of course there are assholes within any segment of society but that does not take away from the vast majority that are not assholes. Those that chose to express a view such as yours on Memorial Day seem to fall into the asshole category. Unless of course this was "tung" in cheek also.
Not tung in cheek at all. I come to a Jets message board to read about the Jets, not about Memorial Day. People who want to post about Memorial Day should do it in a sub forum. It’s got nothing to do with football no matter how desperately the NFL wants you to think the 2 are joined at the hip. And you’re hardly the only person to lose someone in a military conflict. I did as well. It was a conflict over oil. Oil. Not protecting our country, snuffing out terrorism, or doing any of the other things the military is held in high regard for. Go on some foreign news sights and forums to get some perspective on how many people in the rest of the world view our armed forces and many of our past conflicts. It’ll probably be eye opening for you. I honor my uncle and friend who lost their lives in Iraq. I don’t need a holiday to tell me to do it.
Veterans Day is in November. It was Memorial Day this week. Quit your bitching though, no one cares if you don't want to read about it. In fact, if you dont want to read about it its pretty easy, just dont open the fuckin thread. What a concept!
As someone who served, I have no problem with this. After 9-11, it got kind of annoying having people profusely thank you for your service when they had no idea about the nature of said service. I personally knew more than my fair share of shitbag military recruits and it turned my stomach to think of those assholes being revered for their "duty", which usually was a few embarrassing years of insubordination followed by a general discharge. To my knowledge, most people enlist for free school, employment experience and medical benefits. Not for some noble sense of duty. That is a self-serving reason and doesn't require thanks IMO.
Sorry bud, I’m not a spineless bitch so I have no problem speaking up. Clearly, based on the lack of replies and lack of overwhelming support for the folks taking shots at me in this thread, I’m not alone.
