Oh duh, theres the UNDENIABLE proof that Lamont Jordan is a terrible, horrible player. Ignore production when he was healthy. Yea, I kind of agree with you that maybe Lamont's injuries will cause him to go all Jamal Lewis before he ever got the hype Lewis did. At the same time, I think it's pretty ignorant of fans to ignore what Lamont did behind a crappy run blocking O-line. He was easily one of the ten best all around RBs in 2005, his only full season as a starter, considering the line he ran behind and so on. Put it this way, that team had roughly 5,100 yards of offense...and Lamont put up almost 1,600 of those yards. That's pretty damn good.
when do we really pass to the RB like that outside of dumpoffs? We need a Running back and all i can see from him running is 3.7 avg and 1024 yard best season. he got benched and now is getting cut. im sorry but team that i s desprate for all the offensive help it can get. would be cutting a running back if he was as good as yall are making him out to be.kevan barlow had a thousand yard season did that make him great? Code: 201 1024 5.1 and he had the same #s on higher ypc avg and less carries.
In all fairness to Lamont, I have to agree with Junc. Herm Edwards grossly mistreated this guy to the point of being embarassing. While constantly satisfying his penchant for running Martin incessantly (despite him being injured even, and heading toward a 2 ypc average), Edwards left Jordan on the bench even though he was averaging 4.5 ypc (granted, on not many carries). At one point, Edwards even went into a tyrade on the sidelines to the point of barking at (I think, Heimerdinger?) when he inserted Jordan for one play. Herm had him immediately pulled after that 5-yard gain. Then Jordan smells a $25 million contract from the Raiders. Putting two and two together, Jordan is looking at a chance to start somewhere else with a lucrative contract while Herm is showing him no love at all and in fact, was dissing him at every opportunity. To say Jordan "turned his back" on the Jets is laughable. IMO he did the right thing, which was to get as far away from the paranoid Edwards as was humanly possible. No one in their right mind should EVER blame Jordan for taking that Raiders deal.
Yea, dude you're not getting it. I don't want Lamont. I've said that like twice in this thread already. I DO want people to understand that Lamont did not "suck" as a Raider. He did not prove he was mean to be a backup. He was a damn good RB when you look at the whole thing.
well since im not getting my point across. here are raiders fans take on the same article. they sound real concerned dont they? http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=66#S=66&F=1886&T=175375 heres another one http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=66#S=66&F=1886&T=166724
a deprived organization and even worse fans. who cares what they say, theyre the same people who think al davis knows what hes doing and that andrew walters is good. and that robert gallery will pan out, and that justin fargas is good, and plenty of other things. i cant say jordan sucks cuz their line is one of the worst in the league. thatd be like blaming brady for not making the playoffs behind the 5 man turnstile.
they watched him for the last 2 yrs. but because they dont think he is this Great rb. they cant be right. like i said raiders is a team tha t need all the offensive help they can get.. if this guy was so great why cut him?
I have to agree with this. You've got an organization led by a man who is damn-near senile and fan base that still ridiculously supports most of his decisions as long as they're permitted to parade around in the parking lot dressed in drag, drunk out of their minds and high on just about every available mind-altering legal and illegal substance known and unknown to the medical profession. Besides, we're talking the Land of Fruits and Nuts. Why anyone would even entertain the notion of paying attention to any of their opinions escapes me.
Because he's hurt, 29, has had a bad attitude, and is expensive? Does that mean he was unproductive in his only full season? Hell no. I'm still waiting for you to get that. I don't think Lamont is "great" by any means, I just think its extremely ignorant of fans to say he "proved he was a backup" while in Oakland. We're arguing two different things here, do you see that?
Don't bring back Lamont. and after the way we treated him would he even want to come back here? Doubtful. I know the raiders couldn't block, but if the Raiders are OK with probably having Fargas(a mediocre back at best) carry the load, you gotta assume that means Lamonts best days are behind him. Poor guy...his best years as a running back were probably spent on the bench watching Curtis be loved by the fans. Regardless, don't bring him back. Turner or a drafted RB would be better than bringing Lamont back
I would definetly bring him back with the chance to win the full-time RB job, but if not he would make a great power-lightning combo with Leon.
I'm down with bringing back Lamont. He can block, can catch the ball out of the backfield, and is a punishing runner.
I am not exactly positive, but I am fairly sure the Raiders are in VERY terrible shape on offense with limited cap space? They have what... 11 million in cap room? That is not good at all for a team that is really hurting. It might just be possible that they are going to cut Jordan to save some cash. Maybe this new coach FINALLY realizes their real problem, and that is their line. Not their freaking running back. So by taking a step backwards, they could possibly be taking two steps forward. You dont have to have a great back in order to be productive with a patched up line in front of you. What happened to our run game once we patched it up, and had to replace a HOF RB with a Rookie? Hrmmm....
Jordan may be cut because of the roster bonus he is due, and the fact the Raiders know they are going to be terrible again this year. I'd take Lamont back.
He went from being Martin's Heir Apparent to the Raiders' greener pastures. I'm sure the experieince has been humbling on the field, though I'm sure his life off the field has reached new plateaus given the money he's already received from Oakland. If he gets released, the nthe Jets should jump on the opportunity. Realistically, had Martin not been hurt the past two years and we bucked up for Lamont way back when, he really wouldn't have contributed all that much. If Martin wasn't hurt, he probably would have retired after this past season anyway and Jordan would have had his first chance to be the Jets featured back this upcoming season. A backfield by committee with Jordan and Houston/Washington, if it doesn't cost a draft picks is a much smarter optio nthan giving up too much for Turner. Turner could end up like Lamont did in Oakland, Jets oline vs. Raiders oline aside. An overvalued, overpriced bust. Jordan back with the Jets would make a lot of sense. And if it doesn't work out...a trade can always be made by week 16. I like this rumor more than Joey Porter and Turner combined.
