For the first generation of characters, which obviously included Rogers, MASH was outstanding madcap ensemble hilarity. As the show aged, characters began dropping out and being replaced with far less funny ones, and Alan Alda started taking over most of the script writing, it really took a big turn for the worse.
Loved M.A.S.H., never missed an episode. They don't make shows like that anymore. If reality shows were taken off TV, MTV would have to go back to playing music videos. Would be a pleasant change.
Me too. It got pretentious and Alda became overbearing. I liked Frank Morgan tho, he saved it for me. Wasn't much else to watch back then so I stayed with it
The show went from being anti-war to being liberal agitprop. Richard Hooker, the author of the book, didn't like the show as it evolved because he thought it got away from his central theme of what people will do to get away from the insanity of being in a place that tries to patch up the wounded day after day in an environment that tries to kill them instead.
