Most guys have trouble with schemes that double them to neutralize them. The greats have trouble too, they just have the ability to occasionally break the double and get to the QB anyway. The value of a guy who draws double-teams consistently is that everybody else has an easier path to the QB. When they start getting there the offense has to pull the double off the first guy and then he makes them pay. Joe Klecko drew doubles all the time when he was inside and his sack numbers were much lower than when he was out side. The Jets however maintained good sack numbers because when the C and LG are on the NT that opens up a lot of space for the guys on either side of him. Also when that NT is moving his blockers into the pocket he is making the QB move into the path of other rushers. Q is not a Joe Klecko level player but he is a very good player and when the Jets find good to very good players to flesh out the defensive front his sacks and pressures will go way up.
Top 10 right now. Top 10 3T, not DT. He's nothing to be worried about unless the Jets can't find complementary players alongside him. If they do that all of your issues with him will go away. If they can't, well he'll be another excellent player wasted by the Jets because they couldn't find enough of them to get over the top.
If the Jets are going to run the offense that LaFleur brought over from SF they're really going to have to find another QB to run it. The choices this offseason are: 1. Adapt to an offense that Zach Wilson is more likely to be able to execute well. 2. Change QB's and bring in a vet that can run LaFleur's offense. In case 1 they probably want to also bring in a vet backup in case Wilson is just not up to the task at all. In case 2 they probably want to draft a QB somewhere in the mid-rounds who comes out of a similar offense just so they have a young guy on the roster who might develop. There's no reason the Jets can't warehouse Wilson in this case. He could hold the clipboard and get a good long look at the guy successfully running LaFleur's offense and maybe even get some reps in it at some point. Ideally he would run the scout team instead and get the chance to make a lot of throws over the next year without fear of getting hit. Worked well for Aaron Rodgers - who ran GB's scout team for 3 full seasons before getting the nod.
Given I bash JFM most times I need to call him out for good play against the Saints--he was in the backfield a lot it seemed to me. Anyone agree?
Q. had the upside to be another Sapp but it isn't panning out. Here is our problem. He is a good DT/3T but not an elite one. But when it comes time to pay him he will get close to elite money from someone. Should it be us? I really don't think so. With all the work our roster needs we cant afford to overpay a good DT who only plays 70% of the snaps. In other words, add Quinnen to the list of rookies we couldn't resign and get ready to start drafting DT again.
He’s not elite but he’s good and we need to retain him. Unfortunately, every player knows to ask for record breaking contracts from us whether they deserve it or not so we trade them away to a better franchise. Hopefully Quinnen is willing to come back on a 5 year/$70-$80 million deal and doesn’t demand $120 million.
The issue is someone will offer him more than he's worth and he's seen nothing but a weekly crapfest here. So I don't see him staying. Hope I'm wrong.
