24 yard punt that setup the td before the half, thats the point he shanks every 3rd punt like a kid in high school...also one punt inside the 20 rolled 25 yards
I swear if I had a son I would make him become a punter/kicker. I still can't for the life of me understand why one person can't do both. I heard a caller As Franshitsca that and he went into this whole thing about different swing motions etc. I played soccer my whole life and I get the difference......but shit all they do is kick. They don't do shit else, not studying plays....etc. . Someone could make a shit ton of money if they could do both.
Dude could make a ton of money, and the team could save a roster spot and a little bit of money--paying one dude to be the best kicker/punter is probably at least somewhat cheaper than paying both a kicker and a punter..... Do any teams still carry a dedicated long snapper? Or even a James Dearth type, who was like a theoretical third string TE? How do you make those roster numbers work?
Actually Jets starting field position is 31.3 yd line which would put them in third behind Cinci 32.88 and N*E* 32.76. Maybe they were just speaking just about that game. http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/drivestatsoff Column LOS/DR Last season for Jets offense was 27.55 Yd Line average which put them in 16th spot This season starting field position with Jets on D is 27.25 yd. line, 17th best. Last season starting field position with Jets on D was 28.67 yd. line, 9th best.
Should be easier for a place kicker to punt than a punter to nail 50yrd FGs as time expires. It's never been tried, but I bet Folk could punt the ball further than Quigley (before he got hurt tying his shoe). Only thing is punters get nailed a lot of times (on their plant leg(. Not sure if I'd want my place kicker getting nailed in the leg every other game.
The time between the snap and the kick is important. Don't know that a K can get it away fast enough without practice.
He doesn't have the leg to change field position and we don't have the special teams unit to cover it even if he did have a big leg. That's why he's near the bottom of total average yds/punt (31st out of 35) AND net yards/punt (33rd out of 35). In his defense, he is 8th in the league in punts downed inside the 20 with 15, and has only 1 touchback. http://www.nfl.com/stats/categoryst...ategory=PUNTER&d-447263-s=PUNTING_NET_AVERAGE
Well, it all went to hell when Pryor got knocked out but I don't see how that's relevant when discussing Ivory.
