Agreed Again, I am not arguing with you. This team needs a legit #1 running back. I am just looking at it from a different point of view. Tanny has dug this hole with this approach. We can't just draft 3 or 4 players a year, and expect to hit on all of them. You say the goal is to win a SB, and your right. We might just be a running back away this year, but what about the future. This is the angle I am looking at with this mock. We have the Super Bowl coming to our house in 2014. If we draft Richardson we have as close to a sure thing in him, but at what cost? Where the problem lies is that we don't have the ammo or money to fill our roster next year. What that tells us is that we need draft picks, and that we need to make as many of them as possible to work out. I will agree to disagree here. Moving on!!! Say we do draft Richardson, how do you feel we will fill next years roster? Remember, we only have 31 players under contract for 2013, not including our draft selections this year. Most likely, we will be cutting Pace and Scott to make some cap space. I would love to hear all ideas on how we might approach this from the community.
This year we do have 10 picks, and will most likely have at minimum 8 picks. A lot of long term depth can be filled with the amount of picks we have. We have around the 4th most draft picks this year, thats a lot and not too bad for a team looking to rebuild some depth. Once again, we do have draft picks this year, a lot of them. Sure we have to hit on them, but if we can continue to find contributors in the 5th round, we could be in a decent position. Also, remember that some of those draft picks being traded away have been for players (Cro, Holmes, Tebow) and all fill a position of need and are a 1 for 1 trade (1 pick for 1 player), so essentially those player are part of our draft class and do not make it look as skewed. I understand that we do not have that many players under contract, but we should be able to get around 7-8 players between the draft and UDFA and we also have next years draft which should hopefully be another 5 players and then FA... Tanny always manages the cap and we’ve all been scared and we havent truly been in cap hell. I understand you are looking up at this from a different perspective, but it doesnt give justification passing over a player that could have such a huge impact on this team. If he turned out to be on the level of Ray Rice, Foster, MJD, McCoy, Forte, ect... he could help this offense immensely, and more than any combination of 2-3 mid round picks. Look at the Ravens offense, or the Jags, or Bears, or the 49ers or the Texans, and it all lives off of the RB and running game. If you add a player that can be a top 5 RB onto this team, everything can fall into place after that. Like I said before, the chances of hitting on those trade back picks are extremely hard and there is a chance that none of them turn into anything even remotely special. When you have the surest player in the draft with the upside of a HOFer at your pick, you take him and never look back. Theres about a 97% chance that Trent is gone though and even less of a chance Tanny decides to trade back...
