Just curious if you will cheer for Mota? Not trying to stir the pot, just wondering how fans feel about a guy popped for 'roids.
It's like what Russo said about Bonds. If you're a Giants fan are you going to root for Bonds to strikeout every time? No, you gotta root for Mota, he is on this team.
Do I like the fact that he's on the team? Absolutely not. But I don't think I can root for him to be awful and blow a bunch of games either. He was already on my shitlist for his performance in the playoffs last year and after the steroid thing I was hoping the Mets just let him walk but no such luck.
I think he's a douche. I hate that Omar didn't cut his ass, and I'm still trying to figure out why anybody thinks he'll be clean off the juice when he obviously needed the juice last season to pitch the way he did.
im going tonight and it sounds like willie plans on throwing him right in there. i most certainly will boo him for being stupid and sullying the Mets reputation - imagine they had won the WS with solid performances from Mota in the series? But he's done his time and after I let him know how I feel tonight he's off the hook until he screws up in the field, which will likely be often now that he's off the juice.
Yes, of course I'll cheer him. And I'll boo Bonds (though still appreciating that I'm watching a living legend). Why? Because I'm a Mets fan and I want anyone on the field for the Mets to help them win. If I was a Giant fan, I'd root for Bonds easily.
I'll cheer his accomplishments for helping the Mets, but would not cheer him when announced. Example: Now entering hte game, Guillermo Mota(silence from me) Mota strikes out whoever to end the inning(I'll cheer)
PS I never liked him to begin with because he beaned Piazza a couple times in Spring Training and was a coward about it when Piazza tried to confront him about it in the clubhouse after the game.
I don't really care about Mota's situation, because the past is the past, but then again I don't care about Bonds' situation either, I feel and always felt that baseball took the easy way out to recover from the strike by using steroids and the long ball. I feel that these records are the most overrated things in sport and that a silly number in a book shouldn't cause this much uproar. Now I may be the only one to feel like this which is fine, but I started watching baseball because I love the sport not because of someone's career numbers
That's where my dislike for him begins and I was extremely disapointed when he was given the honor to play for the Mets.
I believe in redemption. If there was no redemption, if you believe in Christianity, Jesus would not have died for our sins. That was our redemption. I can forgive Mota because he said he made a mistake and was sorry for it. He paid his price. If I cannot forgive Mota, why would God forgive me for my sins? Barry Bonds, on the other hand, has said he has done nothing wrong and has not asked for forgiveness. His loss.
I am one of those (rare?) sports fans that just doesn't care whether players take steroids. So I'll be cheering for Mota.
Probably becuase you never played an organized sport in your life. You have no idea how shitty it is to be beat by someone with an "edge."
I'm not cheering for him, but I'm not hoping he blows games, either. If I were at the game, I'd definitely boo if he were to make an appearance, though.
I agree with you. I hate how baseball takes heat for steroids whereas the NFL basically gets away with it. The reason for this is people are upset about stats!!! I don't care whether or not Bonds breaks Aaron's record. I do care that he uses/used steroids. As for Mota, I don't like having to root for a cheat, but I have no choice.
no. Absolutely not. I root for the team to win, but I don't root for guys like mota. I've disliked him ever since he threw at piazza several times and then ran for his life.
