article on Cook (too long to paste) http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer...-is-talking-about-wont-last-long-in-nfl-draft
Depending who is available OTC, I would take Cook at 20. I think between him and Goff, they are both the most pro ready QBs in this draft. They have the highest floor, but more than likely don't have the highest ceiling in comparison to Lynch and Wentz [more physically gifted in comparison to Goff and Cook, though Cook has decent size for a QB]. It's important to realize however, most QBs don't fulfill their full potential. People will complain about his completion %, but they fail to realize, Cook is a very aggressive QB that will make throws constantly down the field - that is the MSU pro style offense. If you watch his tape against Michigan, he did this all game long and ended up with a low completion percentage, but still a W and was effective. I want a winner, that is smart and has a good sized arm and can take advantage of what the defense gives him.
College completion percentage is a pretty good predictor when it is low. Cook was a low percentage passer in college and barring a change in the type of offense he plays in he's likely to be a low completion percentage passer in the pros.
I personally don't believe completion % dictates if a QB is completely accurate or not. You have to look at the system and it's tendencies as well. The MSU pro style offense with Cook was far more aggressive at throwing down the field w/ a lack of check-downs. Looking back, I barely remember the offense having any sort of screen game. I remember Kirk Cousins with MSU and the tendencies of that offense was completely different, they threw more check-downs and screens. Cook will need to be coached up, but I don't think this is a big issue. Other then Goff, he's the most pro ready QB of the draft.
Due diligence for sure. Goff could fall to our pick and then we need to have some insight into him if that happens. The Jets could be trading Mo for a pick around the 11 to take him also. Goff is Cutler II.
you want to spend a first rounder on this guy? http://draftwire.usatoday.com/2016/...couting-report-michigan-state-qb-connor-cook/
I'd take a good long hard look at Cook. I'm not sure why I didn't consider him before...I watch the Big Ten a lot. Got to say something here...at the end of the day I just want a QB that wins. I don't care if it's pretty or ugly...just win. Sometimes these scouts and "numbers" guys are just that...a bunch of talking heads. They "number" themselves right out of a good player because they don't look at the most important number...wins. I'll take a winner over a "fastball" guy any day of the week. This is going to be an interesting draft!
Jones is an interesting prospect for rolling the dice in a later round . As most of you long timers to the board know I don't profess to know much about college prospects but I have watched a bunch of Ohio State games and think the kid has some skills .
Yes, I would consider it depending who is OTC. He is the most polarizing QB in this draft. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer...-is-talking-about-wont-last-long-in-nfl-draft Oh look, I can post links too
Except the link I posted was to an in-depth scouting report that included some tape samples, your link is some blabbering article from LaConfora who's a fucking idiot.
That link essentially tells a different story about the QB and why teams like him. I've watched plenty of tape on him [also watched that program for years already] and formulated my own opinion on the player. Tape samples contain bias, I recommend watching EVERY throw to make your determination on a prospect. That's why I like draftbreakdown.com. Before you rebuke btw, no one is calling him a perfect prospect, rough around the edges but brings a lot of positives to the table.
The article that 74 posted did a great job explaining an issue I had with his mechanics but had a hard time figuring out how to put into words. The author nailed it with the "rigid…torso" description.
