Im surprised he wasn’t picked up. He played like prime cam Newton, I mean who wouldn’t want that beast on their regular roster?
Generally teams don't have time to teach new system to 3d QB this late in the game and prefer to stick with the guys they had learning the system all summer. Unless it is some veteran who already played in similar system before. I believe Jets picked White over Streveler partially for that reason to begin with: White knows the system better. The point is, we are not talking about some world beater here, but a 3d QB. The fact he slipped through waivers doesn't mean he can't develop into a solid back-up or that he is not our 3d best QB. The only QB I saw claimed off waivers was Mond, who was a 3d round pick a year ago and many thought could have easily been 2nd at the time. Short of that, with a week before the season, I could see teams picking the 3d QBs they had learning the system for months over someone who is better but hasn't spent a day in it.
Looked like Streveler ran our system pretty damn well. But I get it... at the same time I'd like our coaching staff to think outside the box once in a while. Would have been nice to see him do some work with the #1's...
It's not like our system is all that in the first place. It's still a work in progress so lets stop pretending only ZW, JF and MW can run it. I'm glad SuperSub made the practice squad given the injury history of Jet QB's. I have a bad feeling he'll see game action at some point this season. ZW is kinda brittle, JF is old and MW is the firewall. Not very comforting..If we had a QB we could depend on for 14 games or so, QB3 really is an afterthought. Sadly, that's not the case.. Serious question... Who was the last Jet QB to play an entire season?
Unfortunately it is true. Even the firewall Mike White was hurt in pretty much every game he played last year. I really hope after Zach is back he doesn't miss any more games, but having Streveler as an emergency back-up is not the worst thing that could have happened.
I like you jonnyd. I've always liked your posts and been entertained by them. That said, have you been watching the same lost decade I have? This is the worst franchise in the NFL right now and it isn't even close. We make the Jaguars and the Lions look like sound professional outfits that know what they are doing. And I'm not just talking the last couple of years. We're like the Palestinians of the NFL at this point never missing an opportunity to miss an opportunity. That's why I've been such a Debby Downer the last few seasons. I know we're not resolving this pattern of last place funkiness until something major changes and there is nobody on the current roster or in the management team that has what it takes to get that done. #enoughofthe amateurBS

That said, Cman isn't in love with Strev. He is against the way Jets are not taking any chance. For now, Strev going unclaimed makes Jets FO look smart but still why take the chance? He is 27, most likely he isn't all that but give him a chance this year if Zach is hurt. Are we winning the Superbowl? No. What's the harm?
Zach got murdered last year and got up most of the time. It took a cheap shot from the Cheats to take him out.
