This was my point (try to let go of your Tebow hate for just a few minutes and comment on the actual point): "I think the QB performances have had a lot to do with the type of offense Sparano is running in pre season. I am not quite sure that the jets offense can just "turn it on" when the season starts and this pre season vanilla strategy might back fire. "
aahh, how was I supposed to title the thread? Tebow has sucked, get past it man, that was not even my point....
Ya know, no matter how many times you say this, it still doesn't mean shit. You'd have a point if Tebow was out there playing with the Jets 1st team against either the 1st's or the scrubs from other teams. BUT, let's look at the facts. The Jets 1st team Oline has been lousy this preseason, so what makes you think that the 2nd team Oline is any good ? Then we can look at the receiving corps. Many fans kept saying that Sanchez was hobbled by not having any real receivers, and not having guys that he had any chemistry with. No Keller, no Holmes, yada, yada, yada. Who do you think Tebow has been throwing to ? Pro Bowl receivers ? For god's sake, the TE on the drive at the end of the game was a guy who has never played Football in his life and no one expects him to make the roster, but instead, to be stashed on the practice squad.
I think the thing u Tebow fans don't want to admit is that Tebow may never become a good QB. If u go back and look at him since he came to the NFL what had he improved in? Before u say his throwing motion that doesn't mean anything if he still throwing it like shit.
The key word here is MAY. Guess what ? mark Sanchez MAY NOT ever be a franchise QB. Then again, many qb's MAY NOT become franchise QBs. The thing that you apparently don't get is that Tebow just very well MAY become a good NFL QB. Instead, you've completely written off any such possibility. And yes, he has improved his throwing mechanics, and no, he isn't throwing the ball like shit. He's also improved going through progressions, reading defenses, working from under center, taking 3,5, and 7 step drops, etc.
A mixture of things. Lots of throwaways, more than a couple of drops, a number of bad passes, to be sure, but no that many when you stop and look at it. The thing that I'm not worried about is that most his "bad" passes were overthrows that can be easily fixed by more repetitions. Take the two swing passes he missed. have a receiver/back run those routes and throw to them 20/30 times and nail it down. Same with the across the body throws. The biggest thing is that the mechanics are much better and more importantly, his consistency has improved dramatically. All you have to do is look at the ball in flight to see that. He's not throwing the wobbly ducks and the balls in the dirt like he did on occasion last year. If you will, it's like reworking your golf swing. First thing to do is to get the basic mechanics down and become very consistent with those mechanics. At this point, you are just trying to get the ball in the air and going in the right direction. Once you've reached that point, you start to work on accuracy, getting the ball to go exactly where you want. This includes getting the ball to go the right distance. Accuracy is important of course, but, consistency is even MORE important as without it, you can't really improve accuracy.
Oops forgot to say it, I think the offense can turn it on. I think your point is that the offense isn't staying vanilla, it's actually vanilla and they are going to struggle in the regular season? Like the many other threads thinking we have seen them offense's peak of talent and this is what Sparano/Rex wants.
What I gather from the OP is that although Sanchez has clearly been the better passer completion-wise, the results have been the same. As a Tebow fan, I was really hoping for better performances, almost like he did last pre-season, but the truth is he hasn't looked as good as I hoped. Sanchez has not done anything to lose his job and Tebow has done nothing to take it... as of now. That having been said, I would expect Sanchez to look better right now. My belief is that Tebow will eventually be as effective as he was in college, but that is pure speculation and admittedly heavily biased. I think he's looking for the big play on every down, which is what you can do when you are in college at UF with top-tier athletes and coaching. You can gash opposing defenses to death. But he ain't at UF anymore and will need to be more deliberate and methodical. I still think his upside is huge once he gets settled in and the right type of offensive is installed. Sanchez is clearly the starter and should be for the time being.
Interesting graphic but one QB(Sanchez) has played well but has been plagued by poor protection, penalties, drops while the other has been great at running the ball but not so much at the things QBs need to do. There isn't and there never was a QB competition, mark sanchez is miles and miles ahead of Tim tebow. Tim will be a weapon for our offense running the ball. There's no reason to compare the 2 QBs as QBs.
How does the comparison favor Tebow. Same stats as Mark except against people who will be getting cut before the season starts. Mark is a far better QB how anyone can watch Tebow and think otherwise is really beyond me. He looked absolutely terrible Sunday while Sanchez looked good.
