If they sign Cutler, Romo, Smith, Glennon, or anyone else who will cost them significantly in terms of cap space and/or draft picks, and blocks the development of a potential FQB, I'm done. I don;t have enough years left in my lifetime for them to once again screw things up and after a couple of years start all over again. Honestly, Sisyphus would run out of patience with this team!

Draft Watson or Mahomes at #6 and let them compete for the starting job in camp. If they don't win the job, but show promise, keep them and go to them if Petty or Hack fail. If they don't work out, draft another QB in 2018, Rinse and repeat as necessary. Without a FQB, this franchise is going nowhere, no matter how much money you spend on the "D"! Will this team never understand this?

[QUOTE="ColoradoContrails, post: 3549745, member: 22211" I don;t have enough years left in my lifetime for them to once again screw things up and after a couple of years start all over again. Honestly, Sisyphus would run out of patience with this team!

If they draft Watson or Mahomes. what you should do is build a a refrigerated box. put a timer in it , crawl in and set it for 2022. Nothing will happen with the Jets before then because picking either of those will set them back another 5 years.

Rinse and repeat? That's too funny - sure lets have them draft a QB in the 1st and 2nd rounds for the next 5 years. Rinse/repeat how many times they'll finish last in the AFC east.

OMG, Is there anyway possible that you can omit the name Watson in any of your posts? Chances of the Jets taking him are as much as Petty taking them to the SB in 2017 - about 125-1.

We obviously have a difference in philosophy.

And I'll drop Watson from my posts when everyone else stops calling for drafting Hooker/Adams at #6.

I really have a good feeling about Watson and his intangibles to win like Colorado and who does not like the "sexy" pick. But with that said we all should be wanting Hack to figure it out. As much as his 1st preseason game sucked I saw the first overall pick suck alot to and comparing where they were picked and what was given up by the Rams I am all for Hack. Petty showed promise to and he really should be offered a full off season with the starters and a revamped oline. I am in the minority here but really 1 of them should start and the first pick should be someone who can be a high impact player right out of the gate preferably on the offensive side. Picking Watson he could be redshirting just like hack did and well NY fans will be all over him as well and all over the FO for blowing the pick. I think Watson could be great but comes with a risk.

how about drafting to fill the OTHER holes on the team first, before using a premium ( 1st-3rd) draft pick on a qb?
    worked out well in dallas.

Fix the O-line first and then find a QB.

That the Rams drafted a guy with a Jay Cutler-like ceiling after trading up for him to the #1 pick isn't a good reason to do anything with anybody else.

Goff was a really bad #1 pick and Hackenberg was a really bad #51 pick. The Rams are now stuck with doing everything they can to develop Goff into a future starter at QB given what they gave up to draft him. The Jets aren't stuck in any way with Hackenberg at this point any more than the Panthers were stuck with Jimmy Clausen after taking him on the #48 in 2010.

If Hackenberg shows signs of becoming a good QB then obviously the Jets should do everything they can to help him along with that. But wishing something is true doesn't make it true and spending a lot of time trying to turn a Dandelion into a Rose is just time wasted when we could have been going out and finding a Rose.

If Hackenberg still looks hinky to the Jets the odds are he always will. There's no magic wand to wave to make somebody who throws fastballs flatfooted in the pocket suddenly start throwing the football like an NFL QB has to throw it to succeed. Tim Tebow never fixed his mechanics because he just wasn't capable of it. If Hackenberg is still doing things wrong, well he's smart enough to know better and if he's still doing that odds are he isn't capable of making the necessary change.

As much as I would like to think Hack can be the guy your right it's all just wishful thinking. Only the Jets know what he is capable of at this point.

Josh McCown is now a FA. Anyone interested in bringing him to compete and serve as as mentor to Hack and Petty? I'd prefer someone younger. I certainly wouldn't guarantee him the starting job or give him a huge salary, but if he was willing to sign a reasonable backup contract with achievable incentives for any games he starts, and compete for the starting job, I might do it.

Bringing in a vet competitor to push the young guys and show them how an NFL QB prepares to do his job wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

Doing that with the expectation of righting the ship and being 8-8/9-7 instead of taking the lumps that a rebuilding team takes? That would be so Same Old Jets.

    LOL, ok..

Hey, if they were able to obtain a quality starting QB before the draft and draft Howard, I'm good with that.

I would like to see the coaches take a long hard look at Glennon. He's the only FA that looks like he could have promise and even improve due to his young age. Its stated over and over about how we don't want a retread....Well he would not be. He has NFL experience and alot of time to soak in the game on the sidelines and work on his issues. I think whoever signs him could be pleasantly surprised. I do feel he has FQB potential and minimum be a Joe Flacco type who has gotten his team to the playoffs and done well. This team really just needs someone who can protect the football...And throw the longball with a certain degree of accuracy. He can do both and more. Remember he did fairly well as a rookie on a poor team...I'd say if he was a vet and had those stats they would be blah but he can right in and played well.

Mike Glennon had accuracy issues in college and turned the ball over more than you'd like.

He didn't have a good situation with the Bucs after they drafted him but he also showed nothing that suggested that he was anything but a QB with accuracy issues under pressure. He checked down a lot and he still got sacked about once every 12 dropbacks. The sack rate came down in his second year but the checkdowns went up and the Bucs benched him after 6 games and went to an ancient Josh McCown because Glennon just wasn't progressing well.

It would take Jets fans 3 games tops to realize he wasn't the answer on an offense short of weapons with an iffy offensive line. Then we'd be right back to Same Old Jets.

If the Jets are going to trade for Glennon it makes sense to sign McCown also. By game 4 or 5 McCown will be holding the fort for us until 2018.

I'm not completely aware of his accuracy issues and have not watched alot of his tape I just have seen he has a very good TD to interception ratio (30-15) at a very young point in his career and he is just that. Young. But as you mentioned he struggled with accuracy. It will be interesting what the Jets do decide to do ....March will tell us what Macs intentions are I guess.

Jets not expected to pursue Bears QB Jay Cutler in offseason; Tyrod Taylor, Mike Glennon considered "higher in the pecking order" - Rich Cimini

I went back and watched a handful of Glennon's All 22s game tapes in 2014. He kind of reminds me of a less athletic Geno with better footwork; needless to say, I'm not impressed. He underthrows A LOT of passes especially deep. I thought the scouting report on Glennon coming out was that he had a strong arm? It doesn't look like it.

I have written off the 2017 Season (AKA The Lost Season) so how Bowles and company save themselves is not my concern

As far as i care T Taylor is a triple threat QB who imo would be the best FA pick up

The Draft is way more important .... building your OL is an immense priority and go after playmakers on the O...then find plugs on Defense

In 2017-18 we NEED TO SUCK FOR SAM

In all seriousness DARNOLD will be the real deal and I don't care if we tank to grab him as our FQB

Watson is no Dak Presscot lol

Mahomes take a flyer on but a project

Thats my plan going forward...what happens...sheesh

    AHAH
    AHAHAHA...Sysyphus the Jet Fan

Like that you have the stones to suggest Mahomes at 6 but I would stay away from Watson imo...it prob won't happen anyway.

But you got it right ..keep drafting a QB every year till you get that diamond in the rough
