Was watching the Jags game and it still burns me how they won that stupid game that cost us that pick - f'ing Jets can never do anything right

texans fans said the same about being stuck with stroud over young due to a late win on the season and it worked out for them

Lawrence was the consensus best QB prospect since Luck. His situation and the Stroud/Young one were not at all comparable. It is generally surprising how much better than Young Stroud is. It is not at all surprising how much better Lawrence is than every other QB from that class.

He was, but hasn't really panned out that way. he's good but not on the level of luck or other top QBs. obviously much better then zach but still. Stroud still looks better then any QB who came out since allen/jackson. again sometimes it's just luck. had Hou had 1st overall they would have taken young and the panthers would have gotten stroud instead

My only point was that tanking for Lawrence was not at all comparable to tanking for one of Stroud/Young. Exceptions to the rule don't disprove the rule. Tanking for generational QB prospects is a lot different than tanking for a QB class where nobody can agree on who the best one is.

Generational guys don't always work out, but their hit rate is a hell of a lot higher than others. Lawrence hasn't been amazing but he's still been a QB while the vast majority of highly drafted QBs are outright bad.

Missing out on Lawrence was an abomination that the Jets will and should have to hear about it forever. He's already leading a young group that is primed to be one of the best for years to come as long as he's there. And he's still a baby (24) and only getting better. You can't ever pass on franchise changers like that and the Jets somehow found a way.

They'll need to get a decent backup QB.

he went to the worst franchise in the NFL and they are now one of the top seeds - that's how much impact he has had and he could be around another 10-15 years while they build around him - I would take a good QB with longevity over anything the Jets have shown in the last 40 years

and thats a fair point. But the problem is people throw around generational too much nowadays. it should be the best prospect in a decade. now it seems every 2-3 drafts has one.

That's fair, but Lawrence actually was a generational QB prospect. Easily the most complete one with the fewest red flags since Luck. He was a lifetime winner against the best competition in college football, he won tons of games from the moment he started his college career, and he put up huge numbers while doing it while improving his stats every season. Was also a +athlete.

it wasn't just him though. they built a line. signed kirk and traded for ridley. drafted etienne in the 1st. he has a lot around him. and now he has a great offensive head coach who won a SB with nick foles at QB. the jags are a well rounded team and even then at times they have not looked good.

he was a golden boy for sure, but when people use "generational" every year or so it really waters it down. to me generational guys are calvin johnson, peyton manning, adrian peterson etc. mahomes is a generational QB, we don't have a WR on calvins level and may never see another one for a long time. a guy who's built like an edge rusher, runs a sub 4.4 40 and has the ball skills he had.

Yep. He is probably the 4th best pure QB prospect behind Peyton, Elway and Luck (in whatever order you wanna put them). Three year starter with a million touchdowns and started in two national championship games. In all honesty if he doesn’t get Covid in 2020 when they lost to Notre Dame, they probably win that game, get the 1 seed and he plays in a NC all three years he’s there.

How can they get a veteran backup? You aren't getting rid of Aaron's buddy and you are paying Zach no matter what do I doubt they cut him. Are you carrying 4 QB's?

In this era of cocky NFL HCs & OCs, I think they can probably get a late-round pick swap in 2025 for Zach this offseason. Someone will see the Chiefs tape and think they can get him to that level on a consistent basis.

That alone would probably be worth it just to get his half his contract off our books for next year (we would save 5.4M with a Pre-June 1st trade).

probably more then that. lance went for a 4th. darnold a 2nd and 5th. rosen a 2nd. zach could probably fetch at least a 4th if not a 3rd. as you said there is always some team thinking "we could fix him"

I’d be ecstatic if he could fetch a 3rd…but I’m skeptical. A 4th isn’t out of the question….Lance is a comparison but Zach has had much more game play experience and failed to develop, whereas Lance is more of an unknown…will be interesting to see what they actually do with Zach but to me, he’s a lost cause and should be dealt for whatever we can get. Let’s just move on.
