Pennington did not start one game even though he was taken 10th overall in 2000. they sat him and he watched and learned and nothing else.

the other 3 started at least 7 games in their rookie year. Young starting the most.

I would want sanchez taking the Pennington route, not the other 3. That's why i have that philosophy - it worked on the team before.

    Wow,
You just have to know this is a Jets board, this kind of doom and gloom coud only be from long suffering Jets fans.

With so many expecting so little, should be a ton of fun when one of these kids really turns out to be so much better then anyone has given them credit for.

Again my money is on Clemens being the one who shuts up everyone and forces the Jets fans to see he was a winner all along..

This or I will have 3/4 of this board reminding me at every opperitunity how little I don't know about talent even after watching this game for over 40 years....

You're right, but I think they're doing this within reason.

We have a solid OL, a playmaker in Washington (who WILL get more touches this year), a workhorse in Jones, and an excellent #2 WR in Cotchery. QB and the rest of the WRs are the only question marks on Offense and there hasn't been much that could have been addressed there in FA this Offseason.
*edit* and I forgot to mention Keller, which WSW just reminded me.

Still, I think you're right about Rex and we'll continue to build the D through the Draft, which needs to be done anyway. But if we get one really good Offensive player (e.g. Nicks), then the only thing in doubt is the QB situation.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the Offense isn't that far away from being good. The QB is a HUGE position to have a question mark, but if one of these guys emerges and Schotty removes head from sphincter, I believe we'll be good enough this year, before we really start to build up the Offense.

You are correct I forgot. I don't think he'll do much harm though carrying the bag of practice balls and making coffee runs in his new position.

I love how people just assume Clemens or Ratliff will suck. Why is it out of the realm of possibility for guys who have been in the same system for years to do well? They have a very good o-line and 2 pro-bowl running backs to lean on. Dustin Keller looks like a fantastic receiving TE, Cotchery is a baller, Stuckey looked pretty damn good last season. Clowney showed potential too.

It's not like whoever wins the competition is going to have to put the offense on there shoulders and do everything. Personally I think the situation is a very favorable one for these guys to succeed.

We posted similar ideas at the same time. If Clemens or Ratliff turn out to be good, the Offense will have no problems; especially if the D is strong enough to give our O the ball a lot more each game.

I'm not saying that neither Clemens nor Ratliff can be the man. If the CS wants to see what they have there, then I am all for giving it a shot. I just don't expect them to put nearly as high a priority on offense as they will on defense. I do see a lot of talent on ofense, and if we find out we have a QB on the roster that can do it, then that saves us a lot of money and speculation, but if we don't, yeah, that huge question mark at QB is going to be the size of the jumbotron in the Meadowlands.

There is NOTHING to suggest at this point that Sanchez will be a better QB than Ratliff or Clemens. Nothing.

I know a lot of people don't want to buy it but Clemes has the potential to be atleast a decent QB in the NFL, if this D ends up being as good as some are predicting, then The Jets QB won't have to worry about putting up 30 a game to win. Clemens or Ratliff may be good enough, it's a roll of the dice but hey, such is life in the NFL right??

Who Would You Buy Out There,NDMick?

The problem is, free agency has no real antedote to the scenario you're painting. It probably makes even less sense to think we would actually find our 'savior' in the draft.

Do we really believe that Ryan and Flacco are an every year occurrence?

We will have to develop a quarterback. Matt Cavanaugh is here for that. All of these WRs on the roster have more air to breathe now that LC is gone.

Let's see what we've got before we start throwing in the towel.

i hate free agency. I'm fully aware of the Ryan/Flacco phenomenon. The QBs here don't touch that.

No QB coach is King Midas, and who is throwing in the towel?

God forbid I want guys with better potential than Ratliff and Clemens coming out of college.

Why are people so afraid of 1st round QBs??

there is nothing to suggest who is on the roster is going to pan out either.

like I said, i'm a huge proponent of blue chip QBs in the draft.

Personally, I think that Ratliff has a chance to do very well. The reason why I say that is because his entire football life he has been an overachiever and has always grown from the year before. Last pre-season, he made many corrections from things he was faulty on previously. So I think he has a chance.

With regard to Clemens, I think we've seen all that we're going to see with him. That's just my opinion.

It's just my opinion on both of them. But regardless of whether they do great, horrible or anything in between, I think we have to do what it takes to get Sanchez for the future. I would rather that than go after someone else's player. Cutler, though, is interesting... but probably not available.

Win now or win later is the question right? We're building a defense to win the close games and our offense is going to be mostly ball/clock control so what sense does it make to blow up the cap on another rental QB trying to catch lightning in a bottle?

PSL's? Corporate clients really don't need to get excited about anything. They need a business expense to write off and a place to entertain clients. AverageJoe, if he can afford it, will buy the PSL's because he's a fan of the team. Not because of who the Qb is.

Are we "one player away" from being elite? Not yet. Perhaps 2 drafts away at best depending on how we play the FA game in '10 IF it's a uncapped year. A rental Qb just doesn't make sense right now. We're not gonna win 10 games with our schedule next season and that's ok. We'll be in a better position for it in that our Qb question will be answered, our OLine will be entering its 3rd year as a cohesive unit, and our defense will be in its second year of development.

Patience and good things will come soon.

Clemens can't hit an open receiver. If Ratliff isn't something, we are in big trouble.

How true. This is why I am hoping they give these guys a chance. Theres not going to be a better time or situation to see what we have in these young kids. The odds may not be in favor of one of these guys being a long term fixture here, but what are the odds that they are not serviceable?

Rex Ryan doesn't need a QB. Having a Franchise QB's is for organizations that are pussey's.

Yes, Clemens made it to the NFL and is coming back for his fourth year as a QB but cannot hit an open receiver. Ridiculous statements like this don't help make any points.

Ravens just went to the AFC champ. game w/ a rookie QB, a middle-aged RB, a barely-average receiving corps, a good o-line and a great D.

Why would you write us off when the exact same model was one quarter from the SB less than 2 months ago?

Answer: you are a miserable Jets fan who is only happy when you are complaining.
