I'm not in the habit of really caring what happens this early on, but I mean, your top 10 pick is not even good enough to "compete" for a job? With freaking David Garrard and Matt Moore? That's shocking to me. Not that every rookie QB needs to win the job and start week 1, but that this early on, the coaches have seen so little as to say "forget it, you're not even going to get the chance to compete for it" is just odd to me.
Again ... neither Garrard or Moore are scrubs by any means and Tannehill isn't out of the competition. Even if he looked amazing in OTAs, it doesn't mean much because they aren't even in pads so ... he has shown the ability to make all the throws, but it's not like there is a rush coming to take his head off
You are making my point for me. The guy obviously looked bad enough for the coach to declare that he will not even be competing for the #1 spot. He looked that bad without a rush or with pads on. That means he wasn't making the right reads or throws in shorts without any of the other variables. I hope for his sake that he can play well enough to be considered back into the competition. But the fact that you cant admit that it is somewhat concerning that a first round QB, who knew more about the offense than his counterparts, comes in and plays so bad in camp that his coach has already decided he is not even worthy of competing, is making you look like a homer.
Marvin Lewis did the same thing to Carson Palmer and he was the #1 pick! It's not like Tannehill is looking like Pat White did in practice by consistently missing wrs by HUGE margins. You can see that he's got the goods, but just needs time to "cook" instead of being microwaved. I think the same thing could be said for Sanchez ... at times it seems the speed of the game gets to him and he panics. Why rush Tannehill? What's the benefit? I don't want another Chad Henne, Pat White, John Beck, ... (don't make me go on lol) Does knowing the offense compensate for adjusting to the speed? not completely and nor should fin fans expect it to. Once he gets on the field, that's when that comes into our advantage.
Sigh...It is July He is not making the right reads...In July Knowing an offense is overrated as a skill that translates to the pro level Much more important is knowing the game speed at the NFL level and closing speed of defenders, etc You have 2 Fins fans in here who aren't panicking despite the guy being a high pick. That doesn't make us homers. It makes us people who understood before the draft that Tannehill was a prospect that needed TIME Believe me, had we picked him expecting him to be a day 1 starter or even compete with solid starters I would be the first to complain. Your assertion that Moore and Garrard are scrubs is probably what is limiting your perspective here.
I dont think Moore is a scrub at all, before Tebow I was actually really hoping the Jets would bring him on board. However Garrard on the other hand, is nothing short of a complete scrub. The best seasons in his 10 year career, was basically on par with Sanchez last year (Sanchez only in his second year) Hell theres a reason that nobody signed him last year, and that hes basically in a 3 QB competition in Miami. Garrards a complete and total scrub, and thats all hes ever gonna be. To deny that is ridiculous. Im really not sure why Dolphin fans would defend him anyway. Defend Moore, and hope you guys lock him up long term. At least he has a chance of having an actual career.
I was kidding about Tebow ... I'm a fan of his too (until now ... lol jk) The reason Garrard wasn't signed last year was because of back surgery that he had. When Henne went down, the Dolphins inquired about him then but he was on the shelf! Garrard has made the Pro Bowl, been to the playoffs, 89tds to 54ints and a career 85.8 rating ... not horrible He isn't a superstar and at 34 who knows what he's got left, but if he wins the job then I'm comfortable with him because the offense seems to suit him decently. I think he has a good shot because Matt Moore is a spotty practice player from what I've read, but we will have to see once the preseason starts.
He hasn't been a scrub by any stretch of the imagination. But maybe me thinking a guy who has the stats I've posted earlier, playoff appearances, etc is not a scrub and your definition of a scrub, is. When I think of scrub I think of Jimmy Clausen, Chad Henne(lol), etc. Nobody signed him last year because he was hurt. I'm not defending him as a Dolphin fan I'm defending him as a guy who watches football. When he beats Matt Moore for the starting job, who is not a scrub by your definition, what then?
Garrard could start week 1, but I promise he won't start week 17 He's really never done anything, he's just meh
Again, if your standard of doing anything is so high, then most QBs in this league are scrubs and haven't done anything.
.... in a qb driven league, he didn't get a single offer at a starting job. He got a one year flier contract where he has to compete with 2 other qbs for shit money. Considering qb is the most important position in all of sports, you would think he would generate some legit interest. Plus he's 34 so he's not gonna get any better
Have you missed the 3 or 4 times in this thread where it was noted that he was injured all last year? And you're not backing up your scrub label with any facts. I'm going off his play in this league and I'm still trying to figure out what you are going on.
Let's face it, the only team in the AFCE that has any confidence in their QB play is NE. Miami, Buffalo and NYJ are pretty much in the same boat...........
Definitely agreed ... it is kinda intriguing that the Jets, Bills, and Fins all have interesting backups that have had some spotlight whereas the Mallett has horrid footwork, mechanics, and won't see the field for a long time Bills: Young Jets: Tebow Fins: Garrard/Moore
I think the Bills, Fins and Jets are going to try and make sure that Mallett is the starting QB as soon as possible. Jets and Fins D's have been pretty solid, it's about time Buffalo decided to get some players on D. Brady is going to take a pounding this year.
lol we can hope man. As it stands now, I don't think anybody else has a legit shot at the division until Brady is gone - injured/retired/whatever, unless something unforseen happens.
^That's what makes it such a hard division. People talk about the NFC East but the AFC East is the only division where you know from the outset that you are fighting for a wild card. And the Steelers/Ravens always lock down one of those WC spots so we are left fighting for 1 spot. Shit sucks!
