Seems like it would work for someone like yourself, but how many could follow your plan?

But in this day and age, what else can you do?

I hear ya, and I'm definitely not recommending this as a substitute for tailgating. The end of tailgating at the Meadowlands would f'ing suck! I've drank several thousands of beers there the last 12 years, and ending that tradition would be tragic. I'm just thinking aloud about what I might do if they start with grill rentals and other silly corporate tailgating ideas. That is, if I somehow get a ticket, of course (I can't pay for $25k PSLs, and don't think I want to pay for $4-5k ones, etiher.

I'm just picking myself up off the floor after reading this...I'm hoping this is a joke. RENTING grills from the Jets?? WTF is that?? Let's say an average tailgate consists of 8-10 people. That means the Jets need to have 8,000 grills on hand to outfit the entire attendance? So let's say the Jets only have 1,000 grills...If you get there and all the grills are taken, you just have to hang out with your raw ground beef and ketchup bottle? But, OH WAIT, NO FOOD allowed in the stadium. So now you have to throw it all away before you enter, and you never got any grill space. There is NO WAAAAAAAAAAY this could be the case...NO WAAAAAAAAAY. IMPOSSIBLE.

This is a great point. If the Jets are merely adding the opportunity to purxchase/rent these items with no additional ramifications on a normal tailgate, then there's no reason to be alarmed. I know there were numerous Saturday evenings when I really did not feel like getting everything together for the Sunday morning tailgate, and the option to purchase/rent this stuff from the Jets is a good one to have.

We need to wait until this is further clarified before we render this as Woody trying to stick his hand into our wallets.

If this is even true... is this an option, or are they making it mandatory? Big difference.

I can't see the Jets making this mandatory. How are they going to police 80,000 people in a parking lot? They barely do any policing of the lot as it stands.

I can see it as a an option.

What are they going to do, search your car on the way in?
    Check your coolers?
Compare your meat to their meat? Sounds strange, I know.

    Can't see it happening.

Just got this in an email from my dad:
"I got the Jets Playbook in the mail yesterday. I have to pick my seat choices and get it in by 2/17/09. I plan to put the prime upper deck seats as my first choice, and sideline in upper deck as my second choice. Third choice has to be endzone seats or something with a PSL.

PS - It says in the book that if every ticket holder picked upper deck seats, only those who have tickets since 1983 or earlier would get in. We are 1981, but if it goes like that we could be moving back instead of forward."

Apparently we go back to '81, so that's good news.
Just for fun I did the math on this and to have drank just 1,000 beers there, you'd have to drink slightly more than 8 beers per game, and that's assuming you went to every game, including preseason but not counting postseason (we've only had 2 home playoff games in the last 12 years anyway).

17A, did they take you to the UD on your tour.?Sounds like no If not, how do you know how high it is? I am sure they are gonna tell everyone how high and far it is to get us to consider PSL's . Not saying you are wrong, I just want to take the tour and go see for myself how bad it is. I sit in row 9 is sec 314. No way after 28 seasons am I going to sit in worse seats. I will consider Mezz. end zone or just give them up before I sit higher. No way

I also don't trust them to be truthful about whether the UD seats you 'prefer' - for those with our sham 'seniority' - are available. I wouldn't put it past them to indeed have what you 'request', yet offer you the worst shite possible to try force your hand into something you can't afford - which would in effect force you out altogether.

If my math is correct ur seniority is 1981 & based on the way they are working it season tix holders from 77,78,79,80 & maybe even some from ur group of 81 will come before you so simple math says that you will be moving backward from ur present seats in row 9 of the UD

Yes, I am worried that If I show intrest in any PSL, I wont get the best UD's available. It also sounds like row 1 in the UD is farther away them row 9 is now so almost everyone who currently resides in the UD and is staying there will have higher seats. That sucks!!!! Tell me what the point of building this stadium was??. for Martini bars and outrageous prices to your long time middele class tailgating fans.

We don;t know enough details to make an informed assessment. it could be either. We can;t criticize them for something we don;t even know about yet.

Once the facts come out, it's pretty simple. If the jets are making it mandatory, then that sucks, plain and simple. If it's optional, it is a good option to have.

Well that is quite simple to answer. For those who were clamoring for there "own" stadium well they got there wish. For season tix fans who up to now had to paid nothing for there seats beyond the price of admission & parking now we either pay outragous fees (PSLs) or if you have enough seniority move go PSL free in the UD & take ur chances. For Woody the stadium is a end all cash cow & he is laughing all the way to the bank.

    FU Woody

I can't imagine the Jets doing this grill policy or at least doing it in the non PSL lots. I'm sure a lot of you will tell me I'm nuts but I actually think Woody will end up catering more to his non PSL fans. Here's why. You figure once you pay for your PSL he's got you by the balls and he can increase prices all he wants on you and now that you paid 4k-25k for your psl you're not just going to drop your tickets. However, 27,000 seats are non PSL so you can drop those tickets anytime and not take any kind of loss. Those are the fans who he can still lose so I can't see him forcing them out really. I know I sound crazy but just a thought.

I supposedly am in the brochure since my seniority date is 1991 and I it in section 337. If I can't get decent uppers I plan on going on ebay weekly and getting ticket. If you've ever gone to ebay for Jets tickets most of the time you can get the tickets for below face value anyway and not have to get raped with a PSL cost. Even if 2-3 games a year go for $25 a ticket above face you still save by not having to pay for preseason or a PSL. Or just go tailgate and look for a poor soul who is selling his tickets for $20 a ticket.

One more thought. Woody doen't realize corporations don't take their clients to Jets games. In all honesty do you think someone is going to take their client in December to see a second class team that is probably going to be 4-12 maybe 6-10 on average?

3 years from now watch Woody sitting in front of Congress asking for his own bailout package.

    Boy, you got that right.

Same holds true for everyone who thought the "old" stadium was the pits. There was nothing wrong with that stadium from a football fans perspective... I am talking about a guy who goes to every game and truly wants to watch a live game of football and be able to see the plays well.

All the other stuff that this new monstrousity offers is all fluff and quite secondary to what a real Jets fan goes to the games for... to get a good view of the field. What a fucking nightmare this is turning out to be.

Haha. Interesting. I threw that "several thousands" estimate out there without much thought.

But looking back, I have gone to almost every game. There was 1 year a couple years back where I had to miss the last 3 games while recovering from surgery. I did make the playoff games, and most of the preseason. There was 1 year, I think, where I missed both preseason games. I usually go to both, but sometimes just 1.

As for the 8 beers, I'm ashamed to say that many times, especially in the beginning of that run, I FAR exceeded that amount. When I was first out of school and tailgating with a large group, we'd get there at 8:30 for 1pm games and probably go through a dozen beers in the lot, watch the game, then tailgate again for a few more hours until there were no cars in the lot and the birds were picking the place apart. I have some incriminating photos I could probably dig up if I looked. I have no idea if they even let you stay that long anymore since the last few years I've been leaving pretty much right after the game (sometimes waiting 45 minutes for traffic to die down, but that's about it).

Not proud of that, though at least I wasn't driving, and shit, I was like 22, so I could drink that many beers and still make it to work the next day. These days, not so much.

So I take back my "several thousands" estimate, but stand firmly in a "more than 1000" beer estimate :)

The people who wanted the Jets to have their own stadium (IN NYC) still come out looking smarter here since most people who argued against it seemed to believe a new shared stadium in NJ wouldn't have PSLs.

If people knew how badly Woody was going to screw us with this stadium, they would have definitely been on board with the WSS.

Don't be ashamed Cornfed. Stand tall. Although going through life drunk and stupid is no way to go, you have accomplished what many of have and are still here to tell us the stories.

Woody looks as if he is trying to take these memories (good or bad) away from us.

Man, the more info coming in, the worse the situation appears to be for this new stadium. My hope is that we all can get to go to the games in the future and enjoy watching our team. and drink a few along the way.....:drunk:

I was all for the WSS, but given the economy now it's lucky if they get one built and paid for. We didn't need two new football stadiums five miles apart.

I was never for the WSS because I knew we'd have heavy PSLs as a stand-alone, single NY Jets operation.

But I did support the concept of the jointly owned Meadowlands stadium because we were originally told the contruction expense would be shared, maintenance costs would be shared, etc. We were led to believe, politicians included, that there would be no PSLs or minimal PSLs because of this. That's the way it was sold to everyone across the board.

    We were lied to.
