Honestly, I wanna win NOW...If we go LONG TERM (Which I don't really have a problem with) It'll probably be a LONG TIME before we win anything
No, it means that I understand what the ultimate goal of pro football is, and that 10 'competitive years' mean nothing if none of them result in a championship. Ask Dan Marino how many of his records he'd trade in for just one ring. I've been through more ruts as a Jets than you as a 'Packers fan' will ever know, so don't even pretend to understand what it's been like to be a Jets fan during my lifespan. You don't know. And you pretending to know, like some know-it-all teenager telling their parents how the world works, is a slap in the face of all of us. All your shallow justifications amount to nothing.
Why don't you take a look at the record of the Green Bay Packers from 73-93 and get back to me on what I do and don't know as a Packers fan.
Really? Well, I guess I was never aware that the Jets went 20 years with only two winning records and one playoff appearance (and then lost in first round .. AND it was in the year the players were on strike & the played scabs). I stand corrected. What 20 years were those that the Jets had awfulness that even this does not compare to?
You know what? You've had this argument with junc already, and it was boring then, too. I'm not letting you make this about the Packers. Fuck the Packers. This is about you telling Jets fans that the history of Super Bowl III means nothing, just to suit your situation following Favre to the Jets. Let's stay on topic here.
And many of us did follow Favre to the Jet's; many more than post on these message boards I might add, and many of us our curious to see if the Jet's organization is going to finish what they started when they brought Brett here and that is make a serious run at the SB that lasts longer than just one six month shot !!
Hey, I was cool with people following the Jets for Favre. That's someone's personal choice. But don't presume to tell me how to be a Jets fan after 7 months. And don't even fucking attempt to tell me that Super Bowl III has no bearing on my fandom.
i thought weve gone over this. its been made clear the Jets want him back. Favre is doing his usual routine of throwing footballs over lakes in Wrangler commercials and shooting stuff. the question is does Favre want to play? dont tell me its he has to know the organization is behind him. thats bullshit, weve gona over this before, the packers were stupid not to let him back. but if my team had to go through this 3 or 4 years in a row, id be fed up with it after a while. i think id rather have a QB whos talking about playing next year right now instead of nurturing his bruised ego and deciding if he even wants to lace up again. and I love Favre, but you gotta understand, you give him the benefit of the doubt because he was the Packers. to people whove been Jets fans before Brett's arrival, hes a legend who is appreciated for his competitiveness. and call us crazy, the same offseason Mississippi retirement seculsions are nothing we want to deal with. the story as far as I know it is, the Owner and GM both have stated they want him back. They told him, however, to make up his mind by the Combine so they can set their draft board. so quit using this, its up to the jets to keep the favre legacy going. we did that by trading for him, its up to Brett to want to keep playing, plain and simple. me personally, id love him back. i think he played a horrible last 5 games, vbut i also believe it had to do with bad playcalling, him keeping his streak alive to play with a torn bicep on his throwing arm(gutsy but almost selfish), the defensive decline didnt have Brett in favorable field position as opposed to the previous 11 games. theres alot of things, my point in case is Id rather go with a 40 yr old Favre in year 2 of the system than rely on another less talented FA to come in and pick up the system. but for 13 mil in cap space id expect some renegotiating. my biggest point i mentioned earlier is, Id like to see him back, but if not, whatever. Jets football is all ive ever cared about, and the Jets will still be a team whether or not Favre is on it.
Coach K, Thanks for the thought out post. I am in a real rush at work right now but I will get back to you, Cheers !!!
I was thrilled to get Favre, take a shot get some excitment around the team, clean out Pennington move off the dime with a one or two year stop gap. Favre kind of shit the bed down the stretch when we needed a little leadership. The owner and GM fired the HC and pleaded with the new HC to keep on Shotty just to get Favre to come back. He will be the highest paid player on the team if he comes back. They told Favre to take his time making a decision. Management is totally committed to Favre. What is Favre commitment? Why wasn't he at the press confrence when the new coach was annouced? When does he move to NJ and participate in the off season training program and work out with the staff and a few of the WR? The Packers didn't unload Favre based on performance, they unloaded him for his lack of commitment to the team. Obviously a new place and a chance to prove them wrong wasn't enough to keep him playing at a high level for an entire season. What has Favre done since the season ended to indicate his commitment to the Jets? It was a nice deal for both Favre and the Jets, Favre knows he isn't committed and the Jets get to move on in search for their next QB. Win win. The Jets got a lot of attention sold a lot of Jersey's and had some real excitment for TC and 3/4 of a season. Favre made a boat load of money and knows his head isn't in it anymore.
LOL, I actually mostly stayed out of the nyjunc thing, except that I even asked other packers fans to shut up whenever talk turned to favre vs. rodgers. I think you're thinking of someone else. No, this is me trying to tell you that maybe if you watched a guy play every sunday for 16 years then maybe you would understand keeping cheering him on even after he changes uniforms ... and you shouldn't have to endure snarky comments from some dufus on that teams' chat board that you aren't a "real" fan if you express an opinion he does not agree with. Remember, all this started between you & I because you mocked me for saying that anyone who thinks one good year is worth 9 years of spectacular failure should enjoy being a Raiders fan the last decade. It had absolutely nothing to do with the Packers or Favre to start with ... until you made it that way. So stop whining about dealing with something you caused, not me.
You'll get plenty of 'snarky' comments when you latch on to a team's fanbase and then start telling those fans that they're not being fans the right way, and that the team's history means nothing because it's not the same players, coaches or owners. I didn't make it about the Packers, you did; I was letting you know that you have no idea what being a Jets fan has been for the past few decades. You don't. I wouldn't have even snarked you at all if I hadn't seen you bash this site a few times in your haughty faux-arrogance. And guess what? I'll 'whine' whenever the fuck I want, and no Johnny-Come-Lately half-fan is going to make me do otherwise. I live and die by the Jets. And I won't be satisfied until they hoist a Lombardi.
You cannot be much of a Packer fan if you abandon your team to follow a player. We are sticking w/ our team through the good and bad.
So wait, let me get this straight, you calling this guy out for following his favorite team's washed-up former Qb...:breakdance:
Oh christ. This guy is still replying to my posts? He keeps "forgetting" that he told me to put him on ignore two months ago and I complied? This is like, the fifth time (tht I know of) that he "forgot" he asked me to do that. If "abandoning" your team is defined as watching every preseason and regular game (even after they were eliminated), regularly watching the talk shows that the coach and one of his players have every monday & tuesday, going to two of the games, paying to attend a preseason scrimmage, and posting regularly to chat boards for that team, then ... guilty as charged :rofl2:
