the weather got cold and his arm got old.btw he already proved most of us wrong we thought he'd take us to the playoffs.have fun hunting brett we appreciated the effort but will go on from here alone
John Riggins said it best on his sirius radio show "If brett favre was truely committed to coming back and playing for the Jets. Don't you think he would NOT have to take any time to decide" Thank you John. As another poster said. His pre game miami huddle was absolutley pathedic no emotion. I would not want that guy leading any team I rooted for.
How committed can he possibly be if he's mulling over retirement and has been for the past 4 or so years? This isn't baseball, in football if you're considering retirement you already have 1 foot out the door. And the way he played down the stretch... He may as well call it a career. He would save us all alotta grief and go out with some dignity. Many of us (starting with me) seriously believe we are not winning a darn thing with Favre at the helm. And you think it's bad now??? This ain't Cheesehead Land, Brett has never been torn an a$$hole the way we're going to tear him one if he has a repeat of last season. His fragile ego will never recover. Do yourself and the rest of us a huge favor, RETIRE!!!! Or demand a trade...
This is EXACTLY the senario I was hoping to avoid with Farve. "Will I do the Jets a favor and comeback or retire..." Yanno what? He's pulled this shit every friggen year for at least the last 4 and I'm sick and f'n tired of it. It's not like he'll be doing the Jets any favors by sucking up $13million of our cap by coming back. This is setting the franchise as a whole back. This is setting Ratliff AND Clemens back. This is handcuffing Ryan before his 1st draft planning sessions as HC of the NYJ's. Considering it will take at least 2 years to install the defense AND the always present likelyhood that Schotts will leave with the first HC job offer he gets, Farve could really polish his legacy by taking the high road here. Stop thinking about himself and think about what this bullshit is doing to the team. He's 40 years old. Does he want to go out like Joe Theisman on a f'n stretcher??? Time for this foolishness to end. Time for Brett Farve to fade away and take his 1st ballot HOF status back to Mississippi. Please Brett.. Do yourself and the entire Jet Nation a favor and stay home.
Do I know us or do I know us??? lol I hate it sometimes too but it is the truth. We are ruthless!!! It would be great to be ruthless for the right reasons but that is a post for another day.
Have you, like, ever had to make a single difficult decision in your life, where each choice was voluntary? Just askin'. Sounds like you haven't. So I wouldn't expect you to understand.
I think Favre haters are subconsciously buying into the idea that BF is unbenchable, the same idea that cost Mangini his job. You bring BF back and start him, if he's having a bad game you bench him. Its that simple. As long as you have the sack to bench The Legend there is no problem.
I originally thought this, but benching him IS NOT that simple and not even really an option. You can't bench him because of his starting streak and because Woody won't allow it. I'm not saying this is right, because I fully disagree and think he should be played/benched based on performance, just like any other player. But he's not any other player, and it doesn't work that way. This is why I just want him to retire and go away. His very presence changes everything, for both the good and the bad. I think this could be the best point yet. If Favre comes back, they'll want him to just manage the O - esp after last season's performance - and any smart, careful QB can do this. You still need a guy who can stretch the D, but they'll want our D to carry this team, not the O. That can be accomplished with someone who doesn't cost nearly as much as Favre does.
The man is following bosses orders right now. On 01/08/2009 Tannenbaum told Favre to not even think about football for a month. When 02/09/2009 comes around and we're still waiting for a decision then MAYBE it's time to be concerned. I know all of us bitching about the decision have had to make this type of retirement decision in our lives as professional athletes, but maybe it's just a bit more difficult for Brett. He has had a bit of success during his career after all. Personally, for the Jets' sake, I hope he retires. I am a huge Favre fan but I think it's best that we move on at this point. I also think it's ridiculous for people to bitch about him making a decision at this point especially considering his boss told him not to think about work for a month and it hasn't even been a month.
My God will you people stop with this injury excuse for Favre. He was apparently hurt for five weeks, so either he's the fucking dumbest professional athlete I know, it didn't bother him, or both. If you're a pro athlete and something is causing you enough pain that it affects your performance you go and get it checked out. You don't wait five weeks until the season's over. So please stop using this lame excuse for just play poor play.
If he deceived the team and they missed the playoffs because of it you cut his selfish ass and never look back.
No player is bigger than any organization which is something you're forgetting. If Favre doesn't get it done we reserve the right to criticize him for it. He clearly doesn't give a shit about the NYJ franchise.
You just have to love all the hate for Favre around here. Yet the same people spewing it will tell you Namath was the greatest QB in Jets history and that he has the HOF to prove it. But did you know that Namath had more picks than TDs in 11 of his 13 seasons? Or that he had a completion percentage under 50 in 7 of those years and under 52 in all 13? How about the fact that his highest rating for a season was 74.3 and his lowest was 39.9? Really, it's time to lighten up, it just makes you look foolish.
Different era, different rules, different game. And anyway, Jets fans love Joe for winning the Super Bowl. He is not idolised as perfect, just as the guy who won the Super Bowl. And he was incredible in his (admittedly short, due to injuries) prime. And he IS the greatest quarterback in Jets history and he DOES have the Hall of Fame place to prove it. So what exactly is your point?
Obviously, my point is that he was far from perfect. Was it that hard for you to figure out? As far as a different era, it wasn't. The pass was synonymous with the AFL and that is why he was paid those big bucks to begin with. Athletes have gotten better since then but the game hasn't changed that much at all. At least not the AFL part of it.
