It's true that the touchbacks are not Graham's fault. The special teams have been standing around watching the ball bounce inside the 10. Still, say what you want about Graham's pro bowl chances. The fact remains - He comes from the land down under. Why won't the people that control the loudspeaker at the Meadowlands acknowledge that?
Disagree. You can't expect special teams to catch every ball Graham puts inside the 10 or 5. Many of his kicks take a nasty bounce forward when they land. Great if he's punting from our 30...not so much when he's punting from around the 50.
And you would think with all of the intelligent fans we have here, you would run into atleast one at a bar or something. All i get are people who think michael vick is the best qb in the nfl.
Funny! How many times does it happen when you meet someone and they're like: -ohh I love football . I'm a xInsert team herex Fan. -Really!? I'm a JETS fans -Wow, I like Wayne Chrebet -uhh Yeah, He Retired -But How about (You name a Player from their team) - The response you get is that Look you get if you Spoke to them all of a sudden in Chinese...Kinda like when the dog tilts his head to the side and says WTF Are you Saying?
Isn't that 'end over end' punt, which results in the ball taking a bounce sideways or backwards, one of Graham's specialties? I thought he was particularly good at nailing them inside the 10.
I seem to remember more of Grahams punts going into the endzone after falling somewhere in the 5 or 10 yard line. Thing is, he doesn't really 'drop' it in there, he more kinda bombs it in. Special teams usually does not get a favorable bounce to try and make a play. Thats why I said I don't think special teams should be faulted so much, you can't expect them to catch every punt out of the air.
It depends on which type of punt Graham kicks, and that is usually dependent on field position. The drop punt is the shorter, helicopter spin kick, that tends to deaden when it bounces, and sometimes even bounces backwards. This is the punt he used exclusively last year. When he needs more distance and hang time, he kicks the torpedo, the more traditional spiral punt. The torp often bounces forward, sometimes with a huge forward acceleration. He's used the torp much more than the drop punt this year. From what I've seen, without any hard numbers, he generally seems to use the drop punt only when the Jets have the ball at the opponent's 40 yard line or closer to the goal. I agree, I think the coverage team can improve in terms of getting into better position to down the ball when he punts inside the 15 or so, especially on the drop punts, which have a much more predictable bounce than the torp.
I was ready to go crazy the other day, a kid at my practice said his favorite player is Tony Romo, the guy has played like 3 games or sumthin and this kid is not even a cowboys fan. Its like i guess we saw ESPN and saw them going crazy about Romo.
