I don't want to misconstrue my stance on this, so FTR, I don't really agree with the original post; that is, I don't think we're pretenders.

However, I do find myself questioning the legitimacy, in the big picture this season, of being SB contenders. I just can't think of an elite team right now with an Offense that's incapable of scoring any points for 60 minutes; not to mention, we've played two games in which the Offense scored 0 TDs. Even when the other elite teams have very bad days (e.g. the Saints losing to the Browns), they still put up points on the scoreboard.

I know we beat good teams. I know we're 5-2. I know the Defense is legit and about to show its teeth. I know there's plenty of season left. I know the sky isn't falling. Yadda Yadda Yadda.

I still believe we can make a Playoff run all the way to the SB. But, again, looking at this from a wider lens, it's kind of alarming because there isn't one other legit SB contender in the NFL right now with an Offense that will be shutout.

Dude, the enter key is your friend. It's that button right above the shift key on the right side of your keyboard.

On second thought, i hope you never post again, so don't worry about the enter key

like i get the concern, i appreciate the level headedness (you're not one of those who typically freak the fuck out).. but i don't think i agree with a few points. ok shitty game. yeah no argument here. most SB caliber teams though don't start being true league powerehouses in the first half of the season though (or at least i don't think so... that's my gut but there could be stats to prove me horribly wrong). sure you get that one or two teams that run the whole schedule sure.... but the rest of the post season are team unlike that. i think people are making the shutout bigger than it really is. Likewise i may be downplaying it, but we can discuss that later. yes it is embarrassing, but hte offense wasn't gelling, and they were flat after a week off. i don't see any other team really having that problem to deal with, as most coaches wouldn't do that, so i don't think its fair to compare.

it's pretty obvious that there are still things Ryan needs to learn and after going 0-2 after bye weeks I would hope he doesn't give them a week off again next year. They were not ready to play and it was obvious the entire game.

Does anyone else enjoy threads like these? I mean I just joined this forum but even with my friends I always love a loss where all the band wagoners jump off. Gives me room to stretch my legs : )

I hear you, but I mean the teams that we've come to know as elite teams -- the ones that are considered contenders each year because they're usually atop their Division. Teams like the Colts, Patriots, Steelers, Saints (as of recently) don't get shutout.

Every team has to play coming off of a BYE, so that's not a valid excuse.

I guess my main concern is if this team has already shown that they can be shutout and that the Offense can play two games without scoring a TD, then what's to stop from thinking that there's a chance they could do the same thing in the Playoffs? With the aforementioned teams, I don't get ever get the feeling that they could possibly lay an egg in the Playoffs, mainly because they don't ever lay an egg in the regular season.

We are a different style than the Colts, Patriots, and Saints.

Our D was lights out, which we rely on.

Their defense is usually at fault when they lose, our offense is at fault for us.

Be here next Monday and there will be a treat for ya.

(Note: it has nothing to do with the upcoming Jets-Lions game. That game, win, lose or draw, will not play into next Monday's treat.)

The 2003-04 Patriots were shut out 31-0 at home by the Buffalo Bills in week 1. They went on to finish 14-2 and won the Superbowl.

So the whole world assumed they were pretenders too right?

People can have games where they come out flat
