Indeed, and why wouldn't they? As others have said, if someone offers to overpay then I say Adios SAM(and I like Sam).
So, if you want Darnold, bring a big suitcase and the Jets won't overpay for Watson. Did I miss anything?
Two things I took away from this. 1. They are looking for "explosive playmakers" when asked the type of player would they target (draft and FA). 2. Saleh was a little weird when talking about CJ Mosley. Something seems odd with that situation still. Could be just me idk.
Idk. They asked about CJ and instead of the usual glowing "CJs a leader, warrior, big year, best shape of his life" answer, it seemed very mundane. I'm probably readding too much into it. Plus I hadn't had my coffee this morning.
Probably because he has very little chance to return to the player he once was and will be a rotational run stuffer at best. And he's not a fit in this defense. I'd imagine they'd move him for a bottom tier draft pick. To your other point - yes. Will all the players they're meeting with for the draft there is clearly a bit emphasis on improving team speed. Which is great because we've had a slow ass team forever including on the defensive side of the ball and at LB.
He definitely didn't sound like when he was talking about Big Cuddly, it was basically "good to talk to him, good to meet him, expectations are the same as everyone else, to keep working to improve his game." Form letter stuff, definitely not an endorsement.
Sounds about right for a guy who's played 1/2 game in 2 years. This is why the Jets need to look seriously at MLB in the draft coming up, IMO, more so than edge.
You have heard about the furlough scheme due to covid right Some of the guys from work have been doing this for nearly 12 months now lol
JD is playing this perfectly. If trading Sam was a necessity, you create the perception that he is not on the market to force teams to come with their best offer. He didn’t make that statement to trade Sam, he made it to drive up value of the #2 pick so the teams that want Wilson think we are likely interested in taking him and offer JD a franchise altering bounty of picks. But just because JD’s goal is to get a huge haul for the #2, I don’t think that means he’s sticking with Sam. Once he trades back, and teams think he’s inclined to keep Sam, I think he’ll turn around and trade him as well, and will aim for Trey Lance.
I agree with the first part but I don't think he will move on from Sam. JD is playing this perfectly. After free agency the offers will start to come in. I would be surprised if Sam doesn't know if he will be back and if the new offensive coaches aren't working with him already. If they want to weigh in on a future QB they have to spend time with Sam to give their opinion. They are not going to wait for the draft to start putting in an offense.
Why would JD say he'll answer calls about Sam if he isn't planning on moving on from him? If you believe in the guy it's very easy to say "he's our guy". It's also extremely awkward to say you're open to trading a guy if you know he's going to be back. That's the type of thing you only say if you know he won't be around next season. I don't know why he'd put a dent in his relationship with Sam if he knew he was going to be back.
