I hope for growth and continuity. The O-line is going to take a few games to get their footing but I HOPE they come together. Hard to evaluate Sam with him running for his life. I just hope he doesn't turn into Derek Carr, always just shy of the next level; good enough to keep you from drafting another QB but not good enough to win when it counts.
The defense is what really scares me. We gave Gase hell for only winning in the easy part of the schedule but praised Williams for those same games. The reality is this defense was horrible against good teams (see Baltimore and NE) and did not improve this off-season.

The only thing to really hold on to as far as hope is that Mims, if he ever gets on the field, can develop into a solid NFL receiver. He needs to become a piece that the new coach and QB can begin to build around next year.

    I hope so as well.

I'm sure they'll just blame the team's performance on the lack of a traditional offseason and the pandemic in general, though, and use that as an excuse to keep Gase on for another year.

My Dad and I were just talking about this. Sadly, this is our big fear as well.

JD isn't gonna fire Gase mid season. Besides, he doesn't have the authority. Only Christopher Johnson, Football savant, can fire Gase and he won't do that considering his statements of support for Gase. Firing Gase would mean Chris Johnson has to admit he screwed up the HC hire by listening to Peyton Manning.

To start I never wanted Gase here as I didn't think he had ever proven to be a good HC outside of when he had Peyton Manning. The silver lining is that I think his presence here led to JD coming to the Jets, which I think is the longterm piece we needed for GM at the expense of putting up with a broken short term piece as the HC. At our core is ownership, who I believe really want to do right by the team but have made horrendous leadership decisions for the Jets, mostly because I don't think they have a clue as to what they need in these positions...Through a bunch of trial and error we've ended up here.

My conflict of sacrificing the HC position for the sake of the GM position is centered around Sam Darnold. The Jets have what I believe is a very talented QB who has been failed for three years by coaching and lack of talent. Infomercial Alert: Anyone who thought JD could fix this teams "talent and OL" problems in one year is kidding themselves...They have a big decision to make w/ Sam next year and my biggest fear is that they'll make that decision, whatever it may be, with bad information (i.e. is the QB bad or did 3yrs of bad coaching and lack of talent fail him leaving us with essentially a year 1 type QB to evaluate).

Long way of saying that Gase needs to go sooner than later...I don't think we can adjust on the fly this year with an interim as much as I think getting rid of bad coaching my prevent further regression by Sam...and prevent us from making a bad decision on him one way or another...It pains me to see other teams stink and then improve while watching this team flounder for a decade due to bad decisions by ownership on leadership positions with this team. It never bothered me as much as it does now as i believe it's critically affecting what should be/should have been our QB for the next decade.
