I wouldn't say Sanchez wasn't a leader. I think he definitely had the qualities of a leader, but in an NFL locker room full of alpha males, you lead by your play, and he couldn't perform. He was getting better each year, but I agree the Jets didn't do him favors by surrounding him with talent. I always felt that his career ended on MNF, October 3rd, 2011..... http://www.espn.com/nfl/game?gameId=311002033 Sanchez was sacked twice, but hit 11 times that game. Nick Mangold had been injured and the rookie Colin Baxter had started in his place. We also had Wayne "the turnstyle" Hunter at RT. Sanchez had his bell rung badly so many times, he was shell shocked. 150 total yards by the Jets. If I remember correctly, the strip sack that Ed Reed laid on Sanchez was brutal. Sanchez threw a pick and fumbled the ball 4 times. He lost all of his confidence in this game, and never recovered.
In terms of travel for the team, the last 4 games are extremely advantageous to us. Texans and Packers at home, and a trip to Boston and a trip to Buffalo. It's not like we're traveling to Seattle and back, or LA and back. 1 hour flight to Buffalo, 1 hour flight to New England. That's it
Sanchez took a lot of bad hits that the NFL looked the other way on. Helmet to helmet, late hits. Never got any flags. The NFL would never allow Brady or the Mannings to get hit like that but Jets players they condone it. Look at the hit Sanchez took on his TD throw to Keller in the 2009 AFC Title Game. If we dare hit Brady like that the league would cancel our franchise
Yea. That game was brutal. It's been so long but I just remember Haloti Ngata destroying our offensive line and beating up on Mark Sanchez. But I wouldn't necessarily say that game specifically destroyed or ruined Sanchez he was a tough kid and responded well throughout the next 4 weeks with a 3-1 record and was impressive throughout all 4 games (following the Baltimore embarrassment). I feel now looking and thinking back. It was those last 3 games that ruined him mentally. We were 8-5 heading in and not only lost all 3 but lost all while looking really bad. Sanchez or the Jets were just never the same again. Had we not depleted him of the offensive talent and his players in which he had confidence in and trusted; we would have made a 3rd postseason run. It's ashame. I think this 2018 team can be really special with 2009 type magic behind a strong defense and a Rookie QB in Darnold that actually has a boat load of offensive weapons in Crowell & Powell, Robby Anderson, Quincy Enunwa, Jermaine Kearse and Terrell Pryor. Hopefully Elijah McGuire upon return or even one of our TE's can flash for Darnold as well but nonetheless this team is prime to compete without any catastrophic injuries to any of our key players we can shock the Football world.
Yeah, it is hard to say where it truly went wrong with Sanchez, but I would definitely say the blame goes 50/50 with him and the Jets. You mentioned 2011, then 2012 was a joke. They traded for Tebow, never gave Mark any confidence, and it was just a miserable year. Miserable enough to give up on Mark? No way, but the Jets did. Drafting Geno, then throwing Mark to the wolves in the infamous Met Life Bowl against the Giants in 2013. Mark never proved them to be wrong, as he did not do much with the Eagles, Cowboys and Bears, but I still don't like how the Jets handled him. As for this year, I like the optimism! I hope you are right.
Looking at the Jets schedule I am going out on a limb and suggest 8-8, but since you will not allow this vote, I will say 7-9.
6-10. Then we get to hear words from ownership like progress, development and extensions. I may vomit.
While we picked different W/L's, I had 4 and 12 too. I do feel we will win a few more than that, I just don't think that Darnold is going to be able to put up enough points. We'll see if the defense can keep opponents out of the endzone.
The 2009 o-line had 5 pro bowlers on it (different points in their careers). We also were the #1 defense, without a ton of defensive talent, which I give a lot of credit to Rex Ryan for. I think after a few years, other teams caught on how to beat a Rex defense, but our defense rankings of #1 and #3 in back to back years showed how good he was. I see our defense as young and improving, with potential for being in the top 10. I don't see us being able to re-create the 09 magic as it's an impressive feat to boast both the #1 running game and #1 defense in the same year. Then again, Sanchez was terrible his rookie year and Darnold may show he's competent out of the gate.
Voted the under. I'm guessing the Jets start 2-0, getting everyone fired up around here, and then they lose 5 out of 6. The only thing the Jets have going for them is that the away games don't go further west than Chicago. It's a shame, if this team were more ready to compete, this is the type of schedule that aids playoff births.
I think the hardest part about predicting the record is how bad the Bills and Dolphins ACTUALLY ARE ? I think we could easily split with them or win all 4 of those games but I don't think we will know how bad those teams are until the games mean something,,,,,As of now I think 6 wins is our Max and I could easily see us going 3 and 13

He didn't say "they have the easiest" he said, "they might possibly have the easiest." I believe it is you that looks like the soiled fool.
