He looks good but man, two small school guys that could be around in the 4th would be Jordan Morgan and Taylor Moton. I really like them. Also Pocic from LSU could be around mid rounds for a C. I like these guys because they are all athletic as hell and would be a great fit in the WC scheme we will be running
Kurt, you're reading my mind! When was the last time the Jets drafted a truly elite skill player on "O"? Years! If they have any "identity" at all, it's as a defense-first, "Stop the other team, and hope to score by grinding it out and scoring some points with the defense" type of team. That's okay if that's the only type of players you have, but that SHOULDN'T be your modus operendi. You ought to be looking to upgrade your offense and make them into a threat, not an after thought, as the Jets do. I can tell you this: The last time the Jets won a SB they were offense-centered. I think it's LONG past time that they go more in that direction. After all, what has "Defense First" gotten them?
I don't think Pocic gets out of the 2nd round. He has too much versatility, and he interviewed really well according to Daniel Jeremiah.
No argument from me Kurt.. Go get a ton of skill guys for our nonexistent offense...the defensive pandering has to stop I feel the OL IS neglected, however, as witnessed by the overpowering selections in Rnd 1 for Safetys DL and Linebacker I am thru debating in my mind about what to do at #6..we need SO MANY players its not funny so lets add up our picks trade down and pick up an OL TE down in later rounds "But if there aren't players available in the trenches..we're just supposed to ignore a potential game breaker on the outside? Most years you CAN find OL..but this year is a unique animal. Conversely...most year's you CAN'T find elite level skill talent. This year you can." Yeah ,,..I get your point ...Ill pass on an OL at 6 but I would still try a trade down...if impossible then a n RB over a QB this year
LOL...Relax my friend. I have nothing but respect for your opinion..in fact...if the draft class was set up alil differently..I'd be all for building trenches first. But sheesh..I watched the OL group this morning at the combine..and they were about as underwhelming as advertised. I think there are some good developmental guys who have good feet/length but need to learn better knee bend/put on alittle strength...come rounds 3-4 & onward..I'm all for addressing the OL. It just seems like every single year we have this discussion about the OL...and it indirectly seems to always be at the expense of bringing in skill guys. Now...I understand it's all relative and in a perfect world..you address the big uglies first. But its almost become this endless cycle of mixed results addressing the OL....and a bare cup at the skills. With the way the league is going w. play outside the numbers being more & more important...and the fact that other than acouple declining veterans we've had virtually no game changing threat since the days of C-mart/Keyshawn/Chrebet. We can debate all day long whether thats the best place to start a rebuild..but as years & years pass...its hard to argue that superior skill & speed on the outside wouldn't have made us more exciting & better equipped to win games. I think it boils down to taking the best talent. I also think that unless its for a pass rusher...it's time to end the cycle & go offense. As such..we're either looking at one of the RB's...perhaps Williams/Taylor..and an outside shot at one of the QBs( I'd pounce on Mahomes if he's there at 6...but I don't think he will be)..Ideally...we move down to 9-15 area...accrue more picks & take the best offensive skill still available.Now...if the board allows...and we can get further down into the 20s range(w. the appropriate level of compnsation) at that point I'd be all for a guy like Lamp, Bolles or Ramcyck. I even like Cam Robinson alot more than others & would be all over him in the right set of circumstances.
I think people view the OL as too much of a prerequisite to success on offense. It helps that most years you can address an OL in short order by both staying put or moving around the draft. This year is an exception...and I think the "OL first" mentality can be detrimental if it means passing on elite level skill...which we have done WAY too many times. As you said...the successful Jets eras have all included quality offense. We've spent way too much time chasing our tails w. the defense..and along the way that side of the ball has become alot more diluted & less impactful than year's past. If you're "Bend but don't break" you're doing just fine. The rules are too offense friendly for a defense to truly be dominant. If we can have a good free agency period we can get our secondary back to respectability w. perhaps good DB value going into rounds 3-4...at that point one would assume we can achieve "Bend but don't break" status...perhaps then we'll finally see scoring points being an actual priority for this offense..? One would hope..
Its like the dawning of a new dawn we are even engaged in a discussion about first round offensive talent AHAHAH No one being pushy for a Garret, Allen, or Barnett this year...This team is putting the O FIRST finally The ENTIRE team is trash tho and TY for being on board for a trade down

If your offense goes up by a few scores it puts more pressure on the other guy's offense to catch up and limits what plays they can run. Finally, when your defense is playing with a lead, it can take more chances and be more aggressive. For example, the Manning led Colts never had what would be considered a good defense. Yet, they consistently won because their offense put up so many points, their opponents were most always playing from behind. Conversely, it doesn't help to have a great defense if your offense is constantly going three and out or turning over the ball.
So I'm not an expert evaluator of OL, but based on what I saw today at the Combine, I think there are some good possibilities that will be there for the Jets in the 3rd round onward. If they did trade down into the mid-late 1st round and were able to grab Forrest Lamp that would be a great pickup, but I'm not a big fan of trading down. Still, getting Lamp as a "consolation prize" would sweeten things up. But if they stay put, and grab Mahomes, and then took the BPA Edge with their second pick, and maybe a RB with the supp. 3rd round pick, their next pick might still land them a decent OL.
Your point is valid, but the two players you cite are the worst possible ones you could cite for speed on the outside. Both were slow as molasses.
Peppers best plays were on ST, he's a damn good returner. I feel he needs to be a safety in the NFL. Fournette seems like one of the elite prospects in this draft and he came in around 240. He may drop a few pounds but he's definitely in my consideration. Mike Williams is my #1 WR but now Chris Godwin ran a 4.42 and had the best contested catch conversion of any WR in the NCAA, including Williams. Ross ran a 4.22 and pulled up, dude maybe a sub 4.2 guy which is crazy.
There are very few great running backs, and there was only one Barry Sanders. And what is Barry Sanders best remembered for? long runs and eluding tacklers in the backfield....and retiring early because he got tired of playing for really crappy teams and taking a beating. Imagine how great his production would have been if he actually had holes in the line to hit. I agree a running game is important but the O-line is totally undervalued, can you find a few examples in history of RBs who succeeded year after year behind crappy offensive lines? yes...Can you find QB's who survived behind crappy offensive lines year after year? No., well Maybe Archie Manning and Fran Tarkington. The reality is yes you can find an occasional exception to the rule, but they're very few and very far in between and would have been much greater players with even average starting lines overall. It's a crap deflection. That said there are no O-Line players worth taking in the top 15 picks of this draft IMHO. Which is unfortunate and very Jets like to have a high pick in the worst O-line draft in recent memory. To the rest of the folks. I have never proposed reaching for a O-line player, I stated there were no O-line I would take in the first round. But I did say that it is a very desperate need and did use it for a reason not to take a RB in the first round, or a QB in the first round.
