hahaha we can't help ourselves. even without numbers to argue about.. numbers are made up and then argued about.
When are the actual numbers going to come out?... And in reference to these hypothetical numbers, I don't think oohs is worth more than 15 for 3 years. He's a two down player, we have a guy in Kendric Ellis who could potentially start in a year and he's 33. The major thing is making sure his cap hit is below 4 million this year while having a way out after two years.
We also have a guy in Ellis that could be deported before the season even starts, so we cannot rely on him until we see what happens with his trial
I don't think Pouha is worth a 3 year $21 mil contract. If thats the case, then I'd be disappointed regardless of how the cap is divided, as in the example Bradway stated. I think Pouha is worth no more than a $15 mil contract. He's 33 and plays NT. He's not worth a huge contract. Now if he was to say 27 years old, thats a different story. You want to go in to 2014 with a 35 years old NT and a salary cap charge of $11mil. You probably won't though and release him, but then again you take on his hit. If we made up some cap space in 2012, that doesn't mean we are sitting comfortable for 2013 as well. Yeah, we'd be releasing Scott and Pace most likely, but even with those dump offs, we will not have a lot to replace them. Thats why Tanny needs to keep an eye on 2013 situation, which he knows what the situation is like. Here's what I'd like out of this contract 3 years, $14 mil, 6 guaranteed. 2012 base + bonus prorate: 1.5 + 2 2013 base + bonus prorate: 2.5 + 2 2014 base + bonus prorate: 4 + 2 Cap hit after 2012 season: $4mil Cap hit after 2013 season: $2mil
On a side note, Jets just got an additional $1.6mil in cap space after the NFL took away $46mil of cap space from Cowboys and Redskins and divided it amongst 28 NFL teams (excluding Saints and Raiders).
He is Jamacian and so he can be deported if convicted. Having said that its great to see Pouha get signed (and typical that there are 50 posts bitching about the contract when we have no idea wtf his contract #'s actually are!).
Can you imagine the turmoil if the contract #s are actually out and he ends up making $8mil a year for 3 years?
Happy to see us keep a stand up guy who is a big part of our defense and has an awesome name to boot.
Did any one just read the Daily news article on the side of the site?! It just said Pouhas new contract will not count against the jets 15 million 2012 cap!!!!!http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/safety-top-priority-jets-free-agent-market-add-rb-wr-offense-article-1.1037820?localLinksEnabled=false
Obviously you misread it. Theyre saying the Jets have 15 million and change against the cap BEFORE counting the Pouha/Maybin deal/tenders. Tannys not that much of a genius that he can sign guys without impacting the cap
