I don't know that the staff is particularly upset with Rhodes' hitting or talent level. It seems to be the application to football that has them upset. They want to see more focus on the football part of life. How are Rolle's study habits? Does he fall asleep watching film?
Looking at their careers side by side, this isnt an upgrade talent-wise. If only Rex can get Rhodes focused on football again...
I should have specified better, I'm just saying players on the Jets in general, not necessarily Rhodes. Last off season with TJ, the Kendall situation a couple years ago, etc. Just kinda interesting how one team's trash is another teams treasure with this stuff.
I don't think anyone is claiming that Rolle is a hard hitter. He's a better tackler and plays a bit more physically than Rhodes. Besides, he's an ex-CB, so he has the coverage skills and is probably still learning the nuances of the S position.
Ding ding ding. Like I said, he's a surer tackler than KR is. As far as the physicality, he was a very physical corner who has turned into an average safety in that regard. We can hope he'd be able to bring that aspect of his game back, but there's certainly no reason to be sure of it.
"Cardinals FS Antrel Rolle would be interested in playing for the Dolphins if he can't work out a restructured deal with Arizona. "That would be nice," said the former Miami Hurricane. "I haven't played (in Miami) in five years, but hey, we can make it happen." Rolle says he won't take a pay cut from his scheduled $12.1 million in 2010 pay, making him a candidate for release. Pretty much every player to come out of the University of Miami says the same thing, they'd love to go back and play in Miami. Yet there are very few Hurricanes on the Dolphins' roster. The reason? Sometimes other teams offer more money. Not that I don't think the Dolphins would be interested, they could certainly use some help at safety, and it's always nice to have a player on board who legitimately wants to be there. The Dolphins could be one of the many teams that are likely to be interested. He's a fifth year player who only just made the switch to safety and is already playing at a high level. If he hits the market, a lot of teams are going to jump in, because this guy's best football is ahead of him. Personally I think his ceiling is pretty high. BTW, I wouldn't describe him as a big hitter in terms of the run game, but that's overrated; 90% of safetys are smaller than 90% of halfbacks, so if you try to come up and crush a halfback, you're probably going to get run over and you may get injured. In the run game, you want tackles, not big hits. Where you want big hits is in the passing game, on receivers crossing the middle, and receivers in the process of making a catch. THIS is what I don't see Kerry Rhodes doing, and THIS leads to a whole lot of turnovers in the NFL.
He's a restricted free agent I believe and I think he'll probably get a 1st or 2nd round tender. Even if he's unrestricted we can't sign him because of the new FA rules
I think if he gets cut, Rex will jump at it. He has a history with players from the U and Rolle would be a nice replacement for Kerry. Regardless of what happens, I see us drafting a Safety this year though. Morgan Burnett, Nate Allen, or Chad Jones would be awesome.
I think Rolle would be a better replacement for Leonhard, but I understand that probably won't make sense considering Leonhard's role as "token blue collar millionaire white guy everyone loves." Having two safeties that can cover consistently well...

Theres no truth to it or anything but say Miami did sign him, does anyone know much about Gibril Wilson? Would he be someone we could consider to replace Rhodes.
Yea, the guy who shut down Tony Gonzalez and took Antonio Gates out of the game after he ripped us in the first half. Remember that guy? He's the guy everyone hates right now because it's necessary to hate someone involved with the Jets.
