No way Atlanta would do the 6 and Pennington for the 3. Edit: you want their 2nd or 3rd, too? Pennington has nowhere near that much value.
My gut tells me that Chad has next to no trade value right now, but that he'll have two or three teams seriously looking at him if the Jets cut him. If you're just one piece away from a Super Bowl run and he's free he's probably worth looking at.
The best fit for Pennington is right where he is as a backup for the Jets. Giving him away for little or no value just doesn't make sense to me right now. Hell, given where we are, he's more valuable to us as a mentor, tutor and advisor than anything he brings on the field. And, in the slim chance that Clemens can pull off a miracle and lead a revamped '08 Jets to the playoffs and then goes down, at least Penny would give us some kind of shot. Keep Pennington unless we get something of value, otherwise it makes no sense to give him away.
I kinda agree, but then I dont. If he was not being paid so much, I would be ok with it. He is by far going to be the highest paid backup in the league, which is crazy. We cant afford to have guys sit on the bench all the while making that kinda cash. He has good things going for him, but the Marshal QB's sure dropped off the radar at about the same time, conspiracy? On topic: I want to move down, the quality for our team in this draft, is at the mid 1st of this draft. IMO Taking DMac would be the dumbest move we could make as a rebuilding team, our team obviously needs a lot of things to happen for them, just to be some sort of contender next season. Taking an unproven running back with your #6 selection, is not one of those things.
How about Bobby Carpenter and/or Anthony Spencer plus Dallas' first round picks? We don't need Barber.
Yes you do. Jones is 30. If he gets hurt, then your most dynamic player on offense/special teams is carrying the ball too much.
I tend to agree. I'd like to draft someone in the middle to late rounds to be a young arm in camp to compete. Clemens showed little last season, and Pennington isn't very good either. Keeping them both for another season to see what we have in Clemens and to see if the new pick can do anything makes sense to me. It's never a bad thing to have too many good quarterbacks.
If Dallas is so interested in McFad they won't wait until #6 before making a deal anyway, so most of this conversation is moot. And they most certainly aren't going to sit around waiting for us to enrich our positions by allowing us to move first to #3 and then offer it to them... I'm sure they'd deal direct and eliminate us as the middleman. So, I don't see these multiple trades evolving. We'll be there at #6 and we'll find out in those 12 minutes what kind of value we can get for trading down.
if McFadden is there at 6, and the Cowboys want to trade up...then Tangini needs to hose the Cowboys for all that its worth.
This would be my plan also. I do like Flacco quite a bit but we'll have to see what develops at the combine and what that does to his status. I'm probably dreaming to think we could get him in the 3rd round and he'll probably move up. Of course, if we can fill some holes in F/A and trade our #6 for some good value, then we'd be in a position to take Flacco and still fill our holes. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Tangini does in F/A and the draft.
It's a no brainer that at six..if DMAC's there, we should try to trade down to stockpile as many picks as possible. W/ that said...it is no guarantee someone is gonna wanna move up. Sometimes these situations are blessings in disguise...you don't pass on DMAC in that scenario.
My take on if McFadden were there at 6. The only thing that bothers me about trading with Dallas is with the #6 pick you are fairly likely to get an impact player who can contribute right away. At #22 and #28 you are in a tough spot. The talent has already started to drop and if you haven't done extensive homework, you could get burnt. Look at when Brian Thomas was drafted - #23 I believe. While he isn't bad, he isn't exactly going to the pro-bowl anytime soon either. I know getting 3 picks for 1 is attractive, but it is also risky. Even if we get a thrid round pick we could wind up with another Anthony Schlegel who really has to qualify as a mega-bust. I find peace in a relatively sure thing. With that said - what to do with the #6 pick if McFadden falls to us which is not impossible. At first thought, I say draft Gholston, Ellis, or Long or whoever fills a need on the OL or DL. On the other hand, if we pass on McFadden, the Pats are in the driver seat. It is something to think about and adds to the complexity immensely. If McFadden falls to us it will be one heck of a tough decision to make. It is one I would not want the responsibility for. It would be very difficult to remain objective at that point. You would have all the NYJ fans in the audience going completely nuts screaming DM's name. A very tough spot to be in. With all that is in play it could be a draft pick that is right there with the Sapp blunder potentially. I, for one, hope that DM get's picked before us because then our decision is made a heck of a lot easier, IMO.
It's going to be really interesting to see what happens at #6. I say McFad is gone by then, but if he's there, I'll be on the edge of my seat. If there's one thing I'm confident with in our Jets, it's Tannenbaum's ability to get good value. They can say what they want about him, but the guy does make some excellent deals. Look at the Thomas Jones trade... unbelievable. I liked the way he manuevered around last year to pick up Revis and Harris too. He can go both ways... up or down... and it seems he always has a knack for coming away a winner.
I just looked at a fair amount of video of McFadden. If we land some quality offensive linemen in the FA market than I do not have a problem drafting DM. If we are relatively ineffective in repairing our O-line in FA then drafting DM would never work out, at least in the short term. He is not very different from most RB's; he needs a hole to run through. If we have not upgraded our O-line and draft him, please nobody be surprized when he is only averaging 2.5 yds per carry and has failed to break the 100 yard game mark by the 4 th game next year. If we don't get anything done in FA then we absolutely must use the #6 pick on the O-line or D-line. We already have decent running backs.
Don't matter He wont be able to run with this o-line. Enough with the being old. If he gets hurt we Can Use Miller to return kicks and use leon as our rb. You can always pick up a back up running back during the year.
I don't buy into all of this 'talent level drops at the end of the 1st' stuff. We got Nick Mangold at the end of round one. Teams always find good (and many times VERY good) players in the second and third rounds. It's the perceived talent level that drops, but if scouting teams could determine without a doubt how good a player is, the draft would not be such a crapshoot. 2 late-round 1's and a 3 would be enough for me to give up the #6 easily.
The No.6 pick for two First Rounders and a Third Rounder? HELL YES! With five first-day picks, we can pick-up a pass-rushing OLB (Groves or Harvey), an NT (Athyba Rubin or Red Bryant), a couple of OL's (RT and Guards) and maybe a WR (Lavelle).
Well, it depends on need and what you are trying to fill. It is possible to find an offensive lineman in that area.
