I've seen the very logical proposition made that most scouting personnel's contracts run from draft to draft instead of by calendar or league year. It hadn't occurred to me before but that is the most logical way to do things.

If that's the case then many of the people the new GM would like to bring to the Jets are under contract until the draft is over.

I can't believe Bradway will have the major influence in anything that happens in this draft. Maybe not even a minor influence. Even if he still has a job for the next 3 months.

    Rotoworld writeup:

Jets Offense - TM - Jets

Seahawks cap guru John Idzik has emerged as the favorite for the Jets' general manager job.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Idzik has overtaken in-house candidate Scott Cohen and Pittsburgh's Omar Khan as the "clear frontrunner" to replace Mike Tannenbaum in New York. Schefter reports Idzik could be offered the job "as early as tonight." Idzik's title with Seattle is "VP of Football Administration." He has little to no background as an evaluator of personnel and talent.

Did Adam do his research here? Idzik was sent out on the road to scout players.

Of course they had to throw that last line in there. I wonder who he's bringing in as his scouts?

Well that little nugget about little to no background as an evaluator of personnel and talent is not keeping me warm and fuzzy.

Maybe he is a secret clone of tannenbaum

The key here is who he surrounds himself with. If he revamps the scouting department and relies on their input for personnel decisions then I'm ok.

There's more to him then what Adam said. I think he's got excellent credentials, he's coached, he's evaluated players. These are good things here.

According to the Seahawks website, Idzik "spent 11 years with the Buccaneers, first as a Pro Personnel Assistant and then was elevated to Director of Football Administration in 1996 and Assistant General Manager in 2001.". Adam Schefter talking complete shite as usual.

I would say that his draft's were all or nothing, with a few players in-between. I wouldn't say they were a disaster by any stretch. I will concede that after initially starting off very, very good, they've been less than stellar. Mo Wilk, and potentially Coples, might be the only 2 impact players in the last 2 drafts. Not good.

Which has to beg the question, how much input did Rex have during drafts? I have no idea. Maybe it's a coincidence that during Rex's tenure his drafts seemed worse than Mangini's (Gholston being the obvious exception.)

No the bottom part is from a rotoworld writer. Most likely Evan Silva who does nothing but bash the Jets.

I'm liking what I'm hearing about him, of course the proof is in the putting, but it sounds like a solid hire. It's going to be years before we know much about how well he's doing. I'm sure the haters will be out in full force right away though.

You do realize we have been through this before with Woody. This isn't the first time Woody has had to hire a GM, we've been through several OC's 3 HC not including BB. We have had 2 solid hires in the history of the franchise and none so far on Woody's watch apparently.

This could work out great it could also be a step back? I'm not excited or depressed about it. I have little confidence in our owner getting it right based on past performance. Although past performance is no guarantee of future success as we all know.
