Ha by the time we get to MIA they may have 10 or more losses & there players will be thinking of golf not FB. That should be one of the easiest wins left on the schedule IMHO

We should think about beating NE. If we cant beat good teams a trip to the playoffs wont mean all that much.

I agree with your assessment of this offense, and also agree that we have a chance of winning any game. But the part you glossed over is just how awful this defense is, and because of it we will lose a number of games. To be honest I personally wouldn't be surprised if it started this weekend. No pass rush, no rush defense and mediocre LB and secondary play is not going to get it done against any NFL offense. Here's to hoping I'm wrong.....

Besides the Bears and the Pat, which Defensive juggernaut do we face? We just have to be better on O than the crappy teams we face to win.

You bastard! Now i'm going to have that song stuck in my head for the rest of the night

I don't really see why Playoffs should be expected although it would be a hell of a bonus. If you expect playoffs you are setting yourself up for disappointment

Well actually, Minnesota, Miami and believe it or not the Raiders are all top 10 defenses at this point and are statistically better than Jacksonville. Not to mention Buffalo at 15 and the Browns at 22. But as I'm sure we both agree these stats don't show the entire picture. Regardless, that is not the point of my first post. I agreed we can score points offensively on many of the teams that are still on our schedule, the problem is that our defense will not be able to stop them. We get into shootouts with any of these teams and they can go either way. We are vastly improved offensively, but have taken a big step backwards defensively IMO.....

Good gawd no. The man routinely kicks the ball to the 12 yard line on kickoffs. He has been avoided at every possible turn by Mangini because he is so shaky on his FG attempts.

He's one of the few people on this team that are definitely gone in the offseason if they don't start stepping up right now. And that's gonna mean putting the ball at the 1 to 3 yard line on most of his kickoffs.

I tend to neglect kickoffs a bit, but he's made every FG and XP from week 2 onwards.

Obviously I meant 'perfect' in the statistical sense of the word.

I thought that Nugent went to Miami this winter to work on his leg strength with a Phins kicker. Unless this is something I made up in my head but that is what I heard he did in the off season. But I dont see a change in his range on kickoffs. If he can strengthen that area I would have no complaints.

if we were so mediocre that season, then how do we beat a 12-4 chargers team on the road, and outplay a 15-1 steelers team on the road the next week....we were a good, not mediocre, or great team

The Chargers were coached by Marty Shotenheimer enough said on that just look at his record and you know why we beat the Chargers. The Steelers had a rookie QB completely self destruct under the spotlight of a playoff game and they still beat us. Everyone forgets we were manhandled at the point of attack in that game on both sides of the ball because of the missed FG. We were in that game because a rookie QB on the other side shat in his pants in his first playoff game.

Your line about not liking Pennington says it all with regard to this post. While the Jets' offense has been good this year, it is a stretch to say there is a ton of talent there. Besides Coles, nobody gets Pro-Bowl consideration. Cotchery is having a break out year, but he's not going to get 1000 yards and 8 TDs. The OL is very young. The running game has been non-existant until we played the Lions on Sunday with their donut defense (hole in the middle). The main reason the Jets are 4-3 is Pennington.

The defense stinks right now, and defense has more to do with winning games than offense. To say that the offense and Pennington should carry this team to 9-10 wins is asking too much and putting too much on Pennington's shoulders. He can't rush the passer or stop the run of get the defense off the field on third down. He also can't create a running game out of thin air.

To say that the Jets should beat most of the teams on the schedule or "something" is wrong at QB is just plain unfair and does not take into account that football is a team game.

We have better personal than every team we have beat so far. We have better personal than the teams we face 10 times this year. The O talent on this team is far superior to most of the teams we face this year. The D on our team while crappy is competitively crappy in comparison to most of the teams we face this year. If you can't get 9 or 10 wins playing 9 to 10 games against teams that will win about 4 games this year it says something about the leader of the team. I believe Pennington is good enough to do just that. For a guy who has practically put Pennington in the HOF you seem to want to put the team down because you don't believe he is good enough. It's a QB driven league and game. This schedule is made for us and for Pennington's talent. Stop making excusses for him, he doesn't need them.

And you just keep coming out here week after week saying that if Pennington doesn't win this game or that game, his career is over. Well, he has done his job this year better than almost anyone could have predicted.

You overestimate the Jets defense, which ranks among the WORST in the NFL. So it is not competetive with other defenses the Jets face or have faced. You overestimate the offense, which has not had more talent than teams it has faced. In fact, Detroit, Oakland, Miami, and other teams the Jets have faced or will face have better overall offensive talent than the Jets, other than at QB!!!

Look, you don't like Pennington and I do. I never claimed he should be in the HOF, but he does win. However, to put the whole season on his performance shows to me that you are setting him up to fail so that you can say I told you so. The Jets are not a 9 or 10 win team, no matter the schedule. As for leadership, how about getting on some of the other leaders on this team who did not take a pay cut and are performing like crap, such as Ellis. Where has he been? While QB is the most important position by far, it is a 45 man game and 44 other players have to pull their weight also for the Jets to overachieve and win more than 8 games.

I need to see this team beat a legit team to really get excited. I am happy with our record and I know we hung with Indy and NE, but we need to beat the Pats or Bears to really make a mark this year. Then again, even a 9-7 finish would leave me very happy.

I Hope all the Jets have to do to make the playoffs is beat the Raiders . Nothing would please me more for that to be the case. Would feel so good to end Jets season again. Jets aren't beating Raiders under any circumstances. Take that to bank. Jets luck out on schedule and afc East being really down this year. Your delusional if you think Jets are a playoff caliber team. SEE Jaguars 41-0 drubbing. Beating like that dosen't hapen to playoff teams.
