He'll likely be the MIKE and QB the defense. But I think he may fit better as the SAM. he's a bigger guy and deosn't have the sideline to sideline speed. but he plays well in zone. it'll be interesting to see if he shows he's worth keeping. we are kina screwed on his contract. we can't cut him until 2023 so he's like here this year and next unless we can trade him

Jeff Smith was not awful imo. He's a former QB making the conversion to WR. He had a couple of big catches this past season, and then I think he got hurt. He may do a lot better in this offense. Most of our offensive players struggled in gase's (he doesn't deserve the respect of having his name capitalized) offense. He may never develop, but I think he deserves a shot as he has more potential than Berrios.

Brown is definitely worse, but he might make the team due to his STs play. I'd rather have Kroft,Wesco and Yeboah back up Herndon. Ideally, I'd like to see Yeboah supplant Herndon as the starter, but don't expect that to happen this year, if at all.

10 DBs make sense. I didn't notice that you only kept 3 Safeties. The problem with our safeties, however, is that they're all FS types. Not a SS among them, except for Bennett Jackson and he's not likely to make the team.

With regards to the OL, 1 center isn't enough imo. If one counts Feeney as the backup C, then we have 4 OTs, 4 OGs and 2 Cs. LS aren't considered as part of the OL. Like the P and K, they are considered ST specialists. Still, 10 may be too many OL. We may have to keep only 9. If the UDFA OG from BYU shows any potential, I guess we could keep him on the PS, but he could get claimed. This is why I think 53 man rosters are ridiculous. NFL rosters ought to be at least 55 players, if not 60, and then 15 on the PS. I agree that the OGs should battle it out in TC and the loser between Lewis and GVR should get traded or cut.

I'm curious why. Do you think that his skills will have seriously eroded over the last 2 years? Is it his contract? The thing is, with his contract, we won't get anything for him, and he's worth more to the team on the field this season than trading him for whatever we get plus some cap relief next year. Trading him would create an even bigger need at LB. We can't afford that imo.

Why is it hard to imagine 4 RBs? I believe that's what SF carries, and the Jets have done that. I may be mistaken, but I think it's fairly standard for team to carry 4 RBs.

This. See, we have to look ahead to the start of the 2022 season, after our NEXT draft, when our team is basically built. For NEXT season, we're going to be really happy if our QB2 has been settled the year before (this season) and Morgan looked sharp in his limited opportunities.

If we wait until NEXT season to give Morgan his shot, no one is going to be confident going into our Play Off Or Bust season with a QB2 who's never taken a snap.

Lets get the QB2 learning curve over with along with the rest of the team learning a whole new system!

you have to adjust for salehs system. it's typically ran with 2 FS types and no SS types. hence why he took DBs to move to LBer. it's a low blitz get presure with 4 up front and play zone in the back with speedy smart players who can cover lots of field. I think some guys like hall and guidry can excel in this system. I don't think it fits bless very well though

Guy's played how many snaps in the last two years? Professional athlete or not, I'll bet his skills, awareness, strength, speed, and endurance are all shot compared to the last time he was on the field.

I recall @MaximusD163 laying out the cap reason we can't keep him. Something like his cap balloons to $600million next season!

But if that's tru, JD is probably looking for a new home for him as I type this.

we can't get rid of him. his dead cap is too high for 2021 and 2022. onyl could trade to a team that would tale on his contract. he's un-cuttable until 2023

I'm sold! Why not see if Morgan can fill the backup QB slot filled this year? What do we have to lose? And why can't Wilson be mentored by the mentors he already consults ( Beck, Pennington, McCown, etc.)?

Ah...ok! I thought it was the other way around, but I'm REALLY stoked he'll be on our team. I think he'll be the leagues top MLBer this coming season. His only draw back is covering top TEs, but I guess that's pretty much every MLBers draw back. But I look forward to seeing him on the field again. He really tore up the Bills 2 years ago in our opening game.

Plus it saves a roster spot this year and next year too. We don't really need a QB2 to protect our SuperBowl run this year, so we don't need a good vet to come in and win a few games. In fact, that would actually suck!

Edit: Can you imagine if we're picking in the top 3 again next year and our only goal is team building?

Considering what an excellent and prideful player and what a great team-mate he was with Baltimore, I think there's a chance that Mosley will be motivated to come back with a vengeance in 2021. Whether his body can do it again is another question.

One site (Sportsnaut) suggested that there could be an out on his contract with only a fairly terrible cap hit by releasing Mosley with a post June 1 designation:

"Barring a trade, the Jets would take a $27.5 million dead cap hit by releasing C.J. Mosley. However, the team could designate him a post-June 1 cut while only taking an $8 million dead cap hit."

It should be noted that, as bad as the $8M cap hit would be, the alternatives would be worse if Mosley is not up to playing again (cap hits of 17.5M, 18.5M, and 18.5M scheduled for 2022 to 2024).

It seems that our LB room will be severely undermanned if Mosley isn't ready to come back and play like he did in the past.
