i am not too concerned about the penalties right now. you got 2 qb's so 2 different cadences on top of a new offense, there is going to be some hiccups.i think after we name a starter at qb most of this will clean itself up.
that would be a good reason why he didnt stand out. i was quite disappointed when we didnt pick up the guard from alabama in the draft. he might not be great but i think he will end up being a solid g for years to come and those guys dont just grow on trees. it still wouldnt fix all the problems on the line though. can you imagine what will happen if mangold and brick decide to hang it up the same year or a year apart from eachother....and they are not getting any younger.
I think Winters has to start for this team in order for the offensive line to play average or above average. We should of drafted Warmack, I was very adamant about getting this guy. Then I caught the Titans game and watched Warmack open a gapping hole for both CJ and Greene. SHITTTT I do like Richardson and Milliner though.
warmack was teh guy i was disappointed we didnt get too. i would take him over milliner simply based upon impact to the team. i may be wrong but we just dealt with the fact a great cb is not that important.
You just don't take pure interior linemen in the top 10 under any circumstances. The 2 big U of Texas kids Leonard Davis & Mike Williams come to mind. Both were drafted as tackles & ended up as guards. They became cap casualties extremely early in their career. Not only that..they just don't make the kind of short or long term impact needed to justify the means. People overlook the guys Warmack had around him. That's not to say he isn't a plus player.Rather it's a lot easier to maintain a high stock as a linemen when you're surrounded by that much talent. That Bama OL was a once in a lifetime thing. Warmack is a good prospect..but a team w/ the needs the Jets had taking a guard top 10? Crazy talk. Winters has impressed thus far for Jets. He looked very good at the senior bowl. The knocks on him were merely position change(moving inside) & level of competition. He just needs to stay healthy. His upside is not far off from that of Warmack's
Dennis Landolt has come to camp the last 3-4 seasons now and never makes the cut and no other team brings him in. Haven't they seen enough of this guy??? Take a look at someone else who might have a chance to develop or pan out already.
a risky post kurt but a i do c ur point. i personally thought warmack was/is the real deal and considering we had a new GM, QB issues, and the jets OL saga the last couple years - i thought warmack was gift wrapped for them - and the safest pick. oh well so many ways to dissect it and we'll see.
I'm rooting for Trey Gilleo...though he was 3rd string against Lions, he kept his man in front {#69 LT late 4th qtr.} , showed good, solid pass-blocking skills. Keep an eye on him. Only non-started that showed anything. Jets should cut Ducasse right now. He is terrible. Just acknowledge that drafting mistake & lets move on, before he get th QB's severely injured.
Jets need a LG. Peterman sucks. I see why he has been on 3 teams in 3 years. I don't know if there LG is on current roster. Trey Gilleo...though he was going against 3rd stringers, he maaintianed his blocks & held point of attack. Will be watching him closer this week.
Ditto. I was surprised they'd take Milliner over Warmack coming off a 2nd ranked pass D without Revis in 2012. I figured Trufant/Lankster were ready for an expanded role in the D and they'd roll with Wilson at CB2.... I guess you can't have too many good CBs in today's pass happy NFL and being in the same dvision as NE. I wanted Warmack at 9 for sure. We'll see how it works out for us. I'd rather have either of Slauson or Moore than Peterman. He graded out as the worst OG in football last yr and the signing was a total head-scratcher with Slauson signing for the vet min in Chicago. Makes no sense to me.
Theres a problem right there, Jason Smith isn't decent. If Geno starts I don't want Smith anywhere near the o line
He's gonna be a backup and he's experienced. I don't ever wanna see a repeat of 2011 again. Depth is very important.
Jason Smith is a tackle that can play TE. But he's never going to be a real T. Maybe Morninweg saw something from last year's film that he can use for that.
There are some who have this philosophy, but your reasoning is poor (because two players drafted high ended up sucking). You can take any position and find busts in the top 10. Its just the way it is. I know Bill Polian says he would never draft a lineman in the first round. His reasoning is because they dont make the impact the skill positions do. I do disagree, in this new age of NFL (passing league) but that only applies to tackles. I think they are in high demand, as this league is now about passing on offense and pass rushing on defense. I usually wouldn't take a guard in the first round though, but when you need 2 starting guards like the Jets did, I would have thought long and hard about one.
Tackles are absolutely fair game in round 1. That's the best & easiest way to build an offense from the ground up. Centers can make some sense in the first round IF they are elite physically. You only see these types once every few years or so. (Nick Mangold/Alex Mack/Jeff Faine) You can justify them over a guard under a few different notions. 1. You just don't see elite talent at the position very often 2. If you have impact 3-4 NT types in your division(Ted Washington/Vince Wilfork) 3. Your center is typically your OL leader from an X'S & O's department & must be effective both on the first level & second level On another note, Smith appears to be back in the fold to be the back-up swing tackle. With Ducasse now in the fold at starting LG..that leaves a void at back-up tackle. Aboushi likely needs a year on the practice squad. Smith was actually pretty good as a back-up for the Jets last year. He was let go b/c he was still playing under his massive early first round draft pick contract which was way beyond his value. I'd say jets OL chart may end up like this LT:Ferguson/Smith LG: Ducasse/Winters/Peterman C:Mangold/Peterman RG:Colon/Winters/Peterman RT:Howard/Smith Practice squad: William Campbell/Oday Aboushi
