If we got Portis and Quinn for Vilma and our #25, I wouldn't be able to pass that up. But that's something we'd have to wait till that pick came around in my opinion. I don't like Branch and I would rather have Okoye too. So if we were to make that trade, I would actually like to then try to trade down a few spots and grab a couple of good picks (which would include Okoye). I don't really know the draft value board at all, but I would really prefer Okoye over Branch, and there's no real basis of reason for it. I just like Okoye more.

Portis does not fit the character profile

no doubt you have seen the press conferences with Portis in his alter ego and big hat - laughing like a school girl and such - a strange (and that is being niice) set of performances - A Dennis Rodman like freak - no way a Tangini guy

I doubt the guy having a little harmless fun like that would turn off Mangini in any way. That's silly.

Yea, but its a character flaw.

    Like a SERIOUS one.

The Jets don't have fun under Mangini. It's not the Patriots way.

The Redskins are looking to add draft picks, not lose any so lets rule out the Vilma for the #6 overall talk.

I would do Vilma for Portis in a heartbeat. Vilma in the 3-4 will be nothing but an average player and Portis at 26 still has at least 4 or 5 very good years left in him and when healthy he is one of the best in the league. This trade would be a no brainer to me seeing as you could move Hobson to the inside and at at 25 / 38 or whatever it is, we could target that OLB a lot of Jets fans still want to look at, whether it be Woodley or whomever.

Why do we assume that Portis, a small RB who has been injured quite a bit recently, still has 5-6 years on him? Especially since he's had to carry the ball when he HAS been healthy.

He hasn't got the freshest of legs. He's actually one of my favorite players, and I do think he'd be damn good, but I'd want a fresh, young RB.

Yeah, there's no way I make that trade straight up. With the picks, I would definitely consider it. But not with just those 2 players.

Mangini's idea of Friday night motivation is to show the players boxing matches. You think that's not fun?

What's really interesting about Mangini is that he seems to have Belichik's dedication to hard work and repetition combined with a real heart, as opposed to Belichik's stone interior.

That's what could make him a great coach, better than Belichik when he gets some seasoning.

Do you want the Vilma and Portis trade to happen?

it is tough. Vilma is a great player in the 3-4 and i would love to give him another year to develope but it is too good of a trade. Our RB postion would be solid for years and and if we got the #6 pick from the Skins are D-Line troubles would be over. i think it is a hell of a trade. Vilma and the #25 pick for Portis and Branch, it couldnt get any better. I hope the Jets pull the trigger on this trade, it is a no brainer.

Vilma is a leader and the quarterback of the defense...

Portis is a me guy and locker room distraction who's comming off injuries...

    no way Tangini does this

While the trade would make sense and probably help our team next season, i just cannot advocate this trade. As a fan, i am too emotionally attached to Vilma. I'm willing to hope that he just needed one year to adjust to the 3-4.

Portis also has always seemed like a selfish, me-first player...anyone remember that ESPN the mag profile on him after his big DC payday? Basically the article just followed Portis around DC, rollin in his newly purchased limo as he and his friends clowned around and blew money like it was nothing.

As a knowledgable football fan, I have to admit this trade would improve our team, but as a Jets fan I just have too much Vilma loyalty to pull the trigger. Also, CAN WE PLEASE STOP HAVING PERSONEL TRANSACTIONS WITH THE REDSKINS. if there was one team the Jets would never deal with again, let it be the redskins...yes, i'm still bitter about the Jetskins debacle of 2004

Portis or Betts and Branch for Vilma and the #25 makes so much sense.

It wouldn't be a "horrible trade." But I wouldn't do it. It's a trade you look at for about 5 seconds, then just shrug it off...I hope it doesn't happen, nor the Betts stuff either.

If this trade was to take place, I would want it to happen on draft day, and the redskins select a dominant Defensive player (DT,LB) and trade him and portis to us for Vilma, and maybe a pick, we cannot just simply give away Vilma for a RB, that would leave a huge void that I don't believe we can fill with our picks in the draft.

yes. When I first read about this trade on the internet, my initial reaction was that if a rb was involved in the deal it better be Portis. After thinking about it though, Betts looked very, very good this year in his chance to be the Redskins feature back. Betts quietly goes about his buisness, and his contract extension at the end of the season is very cap friendly. Portis on the other hand, while talented, is coming off some injuries, has a lot of wear on his tires, could be a big distaraction as far as the media goes, and maybe most importantly will cost the Jets much more money. I still dont want to part with Vilma though. He's one big NT from being an effective playmaker again
