It is a way but not the only way--Dak, Purdy, Lamar, Brady of course come to mind immediately.

I agree we should be shuffling through more possibilities on the PS--for example, picking up Bailey Zappe would have been a nice move--maybe we'll get lucky and find a competent QB--why do we need only 1 qb on the PS? Why not 3 or 4 and roll through them weekly if needed?

I have no idea if there is any kind of restriction on the number of players from a particular position you can have on the squad, but this would make so much sense to me. We have a shit situation at quarterback and have for years, and we act like it's no big deal. Absolutely anything that has a one per cent chance of unearthing a competent quarterback should be considered.

We keep making these minor little moves - dropping a defensive lineman from the squad and signing a receiver, as if we are always looking for that tiny edge... and yet when it comes to QB we just don't dare have anyone who might be a threat to Wilson. It's only the most important position on the team, after all.

I don’t even know what to root for.

On one hand, there are potential franchise qbs coming out of the draft next year.

On the other hand, I still believe this team has a lot of talent and potential, but the offense right now is a drag on it all. Hard to root for a draft pick at week 4 .

Well the 4 winless teams are playing each other this week (Vikings at Panthers & Bronco's at Bears) before we take on the Bronco's in Week 5, So being at #3 looks easily doable.

Good question. Its not as simple a decision as in recent years. There are some pretty serious consequences if you tank.

If the Jets tank, does Rodgers have any desire to play here next year? If Rodgers wants to retire, than tanking is going to involve a full reset. Potentially new coach and GM, and starting with probably the second or third best QB in the draft. Do we turn around and try and flip Rodgers for a first or second?

If the Jets tank, G. Wilson is almost certainly gone. They would probably get a first rounder for him plus more, but do you really want to trade the best receiver this team has drafted in years? Breece Hall would probably be right behind him, but there is no guarantee they'd bring him back for a second contract anyway.

Right now, I'd rather bring in a vet QB and try and make a playoff run. Having said that, if the Jets are legitimately sticking with Wilson, they've already made the decision to tank.

    This is it.

I voted if we start 1-8, I'll be actively rooting for a tank because the season is shot at that point but the coaches and players will never actively tank. I also think this team is too talented to tank successfully enough to get Caleb Williams or even Drake Maye for that matter. Also, would our young guys go scorched Earth and start demanding trades if we're 1-7, 1-8, etc.? We'll probably end up with a top 10-15 pick and best case scenario can draft QB3.

If the FO/CS sticks with ZW for the rest of the year, forget almost everything I just said, decent chance we finish 1-16 if he stays as our starting QB and at that point the team is in full on tank-mode.

It's already here. If the Jets wanted to salvage the season, they would have brought in Wentz and had him start or take over during the 2nd half of the NE game. Jets will be 1-3 after KC, likely 2-4 or 1-5 after Philly. On paper, the only realistic chances for wins are against the Giants, Denver, LV, Atlanta, Houston, Washington and NE.

To get out of this perpetual rebuild cycle, this god awful franchise has to draft a QB that can be an average to above-average QB for 7-10 years. Take best available QB in the '24 draft and 2x OL picks in the middle rounds.

Its hard to not believe someone in the front office isn't trying to tank because we've ignored signing linemen and backup QBs. Its like they are saying, "either Zach becomes something this season or just tank it".

Seriously, our "all in" year, and we were bumbling by week 2.

If we tank we need to fire the GM. Building a team that finishes last in the division 4 years in a row is unacceptable, and there is no way I'd let him continue - especially with a QB pick.

We all know that we will tank, get the #1 and then draft another DL

In their entire history, how many time have the Jets got it right in the first round?

You can almost pull up Wikipedia for each years' draft and find the first rounders who aren't highlighted (i.e.: didn't make any Pro Bowls, All-Pro teams, or HOF) and they'll point you straight at the Jets' pick. Makes no difference if they pick at the top, middle, or bottom. They have a talent for wasting draft picks.

I said it in another thread that this is one of the most unique years in college football/draft history because of all the players that got extra eligibility with the Covid year. Most players took advantage of it.

Add in the fact that you have two elite prospects and we could see 5-7 first round QB’s this year.

*note I’m not endorsing any of these guys in particular but the resumes are wild

Caleb Williams (USC) - he will end up grading out in the Peyton/Luck/Lawrence crowd. The voters will do everything they can to avoid giving him a second Heisman but he’ll prob be up on the stage barring injury. Three year starter.

Drake Maye (North Carolina) - Another top level prospect in my eyes. He’ll probably have a lesser year because they changed to a strange system for his skill set. Probably a top 5 pick. Two year starter.

Michael Penix Jr. (Washington) - basically a four year starter whose played CFB for six years. Suspect injury history but smart kid with a laser for a left arm and will probably throw 45 touchdowns in the countries best offense.

Bo Nix (Oregon) - not my cup of tea but he’ll be at the Heisman ceremony in all likelihood. 5 year starter and only player to account for 50+ touchdowns at two different schools.

Michael Pratt (Tulane) - four year starter that went to a terrible Tulane program and turned them into a winner beating Cincy and two power 5 teams last year including USC in the Cotton Bowl.

JJ McCarthy (Michigan) - two year starter but played as a freshman. Will probably play in his third CFP this year.

Cam Ward (Washington State) - two year starter but multi-year starter at the JUCO level. Another guy that will push 40 touchdowns this year with a big arm and can run.

Jayden Daniels (LSU) - basically a five year starter but he’s a much better runner than passer.

More multi-year starters - Riley Leonard (Duke), Quinn Ewers (Texas), Tyler Van Dyke (Miami), KJ Jefferson (Arkansas)

Caleb’s dad already said he’d go back to college if the team with the top pick isn’t where he wants to go. I believe it too. These guys are all getting paid millions through NIL deals and the guys the king of a school in Southern California.

I'm anti-always having a shitty QB behind center. When does that shit stop?

I can't go along with another tank season. The unsuccessful race to the bottom for Trevor Lawrence was enough for me and I don't want to put myself through another season like that one.

The more likely option is that, now that we pretty much know that the tank is on, I'll just disengage from the team a bit more each week and find other things to do since we know that, in the end, the only constant here is that whatever the Jets do, it fail miserably and ultimately be a slap in the face to the fans who give the franchise their hard earned money for absolutely no return on that investment.

First or second what? Round draft pick? Come on, you cannot have been serious when you wrote that. We were the only suitors for him at that price this offseason, next year he will be a year older, coming off of one of the worst injuries for even younger players. There's no chance we get any kind of real return for him.

That's a good point, probably a bit ambitious on my part. This is a fairly unprecedented situation, I have no clue what draft compensation he is actually. My point is, that if the Jets are going to tank the season away, Rodgers may not want to be a part of it.

I can't imagine he would look at our situation and think it's a bad one though. Maybe an uncertain one but not bad.

He would get to sit behind one of the all-time greats for at least 1 year (maybe 2), Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall, AVT. The cupboard isn't bare here, it's not like he'd be walking into what Stroud did this year at Houston.

Obviously not a perfect situation if we're picking 1st overall but it definitely wouldn't be one of the worst.
