It will take more than just a pick swap and 2 seconds. We are going to be giving up both of those and most likely more next year. I just can't justify in my head blowing a ton of assets on someone with as many questions marks as Rosen or Darnold have. It reminds me an awful lot of another USC QB we all might know... And while it makes perfect sense for the Vikings and Cousins on paper... look down the road even just a year or two. A lot of key players are due new contracts. It's going to be tough for the Vikings to sign Cousins to $30ish mil a year AND keep guys like McKinnon, Floyd, Diggs, Barr, etc.
yeah if kirk was smart he'd see that we have the $ and we can actually build around him... unlike the other teams that will be sacrificing players to have him long term and not offering as much $. If he doesn't sign with us.. 2-3 years down the road he'll wish he did. How do you feel about Mayfield? I feel like if we stay at 6 either Denver will draft him or someone will jump in front of us and draft him (bills, cards, dolphins)
I like Mayfield way way way way more than any QB that is "ranked" behind him. To me there's a massive dropoff after Mayfield with Allen sitting in a distant fourth with guys like Lamar Jackson, Mason Rudolph, etc. surrounding him. I'd rather spend on one of those two guys in the 2nd round than Allen in the first. I don't think any of them will be good, but it's a lot easier to eat shit on a 2nd round pick than the 6th overall.
This is why Mac needs to to trade up to get his guy like the Rams, Eagles, and Bears recently have done. The question is can he find the right QB after reaching for Hack 2 years ago. The Petty pick was not a terrible one IMO, he took a flyer on a mid round project. I'd be ok with Rosen, Darnold, or Mayfield in the 1st round, but others will disagree.
The other problem is you can either be the Rams or the Eagles and trade up for a stud... or the Bears and trade up for a total turd. That's the risk you run when you try to find your QB via the draft.
Goff was a total turd under Fisher, it’s way too early to call Trubisky a total turd under Fox, let’s see how he does under an offensive minded HC. Chances are whichever QB we draft at 6 will look like a total turd under Bowles. We can only hope he won’t be if the Jets are smart enough to bring in an offensive minded HC the following year.
I think it's a bit too early to call Trubisky a bust. Let's see how he does in 2018 with a new coach. Goff looked like a bust before McVay arrived.
Matter of opinion I guess. I look at Trubisky and don't see an NFL QB. I didn't at UNC and I sure didn't last year in Chicago. We won't go into it though because like you said, it's only been a year. I just saw a difference between prospects like Wentz/Goff and Trubisky right off the bat.
One thing no one brings up is what Cousins did as opposed to Keenum last year which is always what should be considered. The Vikings seem to be run by a competent FO. That is why I think 99% chance Keenum is back. Cousins Redskins...7-9 record Keenums Vikings 13-3 record Cousins stats 4000 yards 27-13 td/int 93.9 passer rating. Keenums stats 3600 yards 22-7 td/int 98.3 passer rating Playoff wins cousins 0 Keenum 1 Minnesota has to deem how much of there success Keenum contributed to but they need to also look at how much more success will cousins bring them. After looking at those stats I definitely don't think I'd pay cousins 10 million more than Keenum....for what?
If Denver Cuts Talib they are players. If Arizona cuts the badger they are players. Vikings are the long shot. Look at the history with both front offices there. They like Vets at QB. Both Talib and Matthieu have been rumoured to be cut for a reason imo
im with you. Hell I wouldn't mind if we went in to training camp with Lamar Jackson... hopefully he'd be our 2nd round pick though.
off topic but Jamal Adams and Badger co-existing in the same secondary would be one of the most beautiful things in the world.
The Vikings have or will have a new OC. They may be running a new/different offense or the change in philosophies/personality could change Keenum's effectiveness and Cousins could be a better fit with that new coordinator and in the new system. In addition, Cousins may be a better QB overall than Keenum, though others probably are better qualified to speak to that. Still, looking at Keenum's career stats, the last two years have been his best and he had a career season this past season. The rest of his career hasn't been that good. Was it a fluke or did the light finally come on for him? If the light came on, was it because of Shurmur? Would he revert to previous form now that Shurmur is with the Giants? It seems the Vikings think there's a pretty good chance of that or at least that Cousins would be better.
No one would argue that quality line play isn't important, but what does it matter if you have a shitty QB? The statistics bare it over the last two decades, top ten QB's consistently win, and compete for Championships. Also with the way rules a being implemented to protect QB's, this trend will continue.
for sure! or maybe bowles shows us more of that 3 safety set he used to run in AZ. Badger is so versatile it wouldn't matter to me one bit.. He knows what he's doing out there and knows Bowles's defense.
Imo I think the Vikings don't want to pay the franchise tag of 23 Million to Keenum...I believe they are letting him test the market to see his value. You do have a point maybe the new oc prefers cousins.
