You're getting awfully defensive for a guy who doesn't care. And yes, taking a guy with the 6th pick that most analysts had pegged as a top 5 pick is smart.
Ah makes sense. So he's just trolling. I was gonna say... there can't really be someone who thinks spending $30 mil on Kirk Cousins followed by using the 6th pick on a QB is a good idea.
Yeah, so was the last safety the Jets drafted. Have you ever heard anyone ever say, "gee, we would be locks to win a championship if we just had a great Safety." No you haven't because in today's NFL Ronnie Lott wouldn't be valued that much. Then again what do I know, the Jets let their Franchise QB slip right past them to Houston last year while they picked a safety just out side of the top 5. LOL
Look. Don’t kill me but I also want Jets to pick a QB if draft falls a certain way. In my eyes 6th pick should be used on QB, LT or pass rusher. No LT worthy of 6th pick. Nelson is a Guard so pass. If Chubb isn’t there and Mayfield is there I will pull the trigger. What do with Mayfield if we have Cousins? Well develop him for 2 years. If he developed nicely trade Cousins for boat load of picks and continue with Mayfield. If he busts so what. Another Gholston, Dee Milner or Wilson.
If Mayfield is there, you trade the pick immediately because that means Mayfield fell and someone will be all over him. Out of curiosity, why pass on Nelson just because he's a guard?
Not trolling at all, and it makes a lot of sense for the Jets to put all their cards on he table to try and solve the QB position for once. You act like it's the craziest thing in the world to go after a veteran QB and a rookie. It's not like your going to want to start a rookie QB no matter where he's taken behind that line.
Guards are easier to find and replace. And they aren't the game changers like pass rushers or LT's. Just my opinion. We don't have to agree Mo. Don't label shasta as trolling because if he is, then I am trolling too. And I know I am not trolling.
That's exactly what I was saying and thy acted like it was the craziest idea ever. You're not going to want to start a rookie behind that line anyway, so where's the down side? Cousins plays off the charts and the rookie develops, or Cousins fails and the rookie takes over. Then if they both work out you have a problem other teams would love to have.
Nelson is being labeled an elite guard already, a HOFer by some, comparisons to guys like Zack Martin. I dunno but... if Barkley and Chubb are gone and we have our QB, I'm more than fine with taking a stud lineman at 6. And if not? Trade back. Someone will want a QB and we'll have the luxury of not needing one.
I haven't been following the league closely since the Super Bowl. So this is really gonna happen? Ah Jets Jets Jets never learn. This will set the franchise back 10 years. Paying a middle of the pack (at best) QB like he's the greatest to ever play how is that good business? And to do it this year in what is supposedly the best QB draft since 2004 only compounds the mistake.
The idea that one QB autmaticly solves the Jet Well considering the Jets haven't had a middle of the pack QB in nearly two decades, wouldn't you think they have to do something?
Yeah draft one but this GM already whiffed twice on two non-blue chip QBs so he's playing it 'safe' with Cousins instead of trying his luck again in a draft considered one of the deepest QB drafts ever with the Jets in great draft position to get one. Horrific timing for the Jets all around it's like the perfect storm. I hope it works out I'll be hoping for the best but ...
Yep. What you say also makes sense. This is just a choice. And I chose to gamble with the QB's. I am sure Nelson will be a stud Guard. Let's see if Cousins signs with Jets. If not, we gotta try to trade up for our QB.
I agree, instead of throwing a tonne of money at an average QB we'd be better off giving McCown another year, signing an edge rusher, investing in the O-line and drafting a QB.
This probably isn't the best thread for this, but Giants reportedly open to trading down. http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/...ts-bullish-eli-manning-open-trading-no-2-pick
That's just the kind of thinking that keeps the Jets at 8-8 or 5-10. What always amazes me with Jet fans is that they think about the teams money like it's their own. Which is funny as hell because the team sure isn't worried about the Fans money, they'll squeeze every drop out of their fans and then give them a 5-11 season with ridiculous costing seat licenses.
