You lost to the Patriots as well. Der. Nope, because while the fans vote on the Pro Bowl, so do players and coaches. The fans make up 1/3rd. What exactly does he base it on? His opinion. Yeah, the opinion of ONE fan certainly outweighs the opinion of thousands. Now, Edwards has been in the NFL for 7 years and broke 1000 yards ONCE. ONCE. Holmes is in his 5th season. He broke 1000 yards ONCE. ONCE. Cotchery has been in the NFL for 7 years, want to guess how many 1000 yard seasons he has had? Uno. ONE. Cotchery is tied for 7th in the NFL in dropped passes. Keller has one less and is tied for 16th. Holmes has 5 and he missed 4 games. Hines Ward has TWICE the number of 1000 yard receivers of ALL your guys combined. Wallace, in his first year as a starter in Holmes old spot, tosses up 1250 yards. Sanders and Brown did not even work their way into opportunities until the midway part of the season have added 376 yards and 176 yards respectively. ARE would be Antwaan Randle El. Yeah, your WRs are scary. I guess that is why the teams that drafted them dumped them so cheaply. The Browns and Steelers were so loaded at WR that they just said take them...please.
As I stated, if your WRs are so good, why, in all their time in the NFL, have they failed to produce? In a collective 19 seasons in the NFL, they have 3-1000 yard seasons. Wallace has 1250 yards in his 2nd season. Ward has twice as many 1000 yard seasons as your WHOLE receiving corp. Wow, our OL is in pieces. That is a revelation. Our OL has been in shambles since Max Starks went down. You do realize that there have been TWO changes made to this line from opening day. First, Starks went down and they replaced him with Scott. Second, Foster beat out Trai Essex for the RG spot. This is the SAME offensive line that the Jets faced last outing. Yet, now it is in shambles. Funny, when Mendenhall ran for 99 yards and it only allowed 3 sacks against your vaunted defense while Wallace topped 100 yards, it was not in "shambles". And, it is funny how you point towards the "breakdown" by the Ravens on defense. Did you not think that the TD return by Smith was a breakdown by our special teams? Oh, wait, you won that one, it was planned. And, you do realize that if our TE squeezes that pass in the endzone, you STILL lose to us. You won by a razor's edge while the Steelers sat their #1 TE and best defensive player. And, as for all the "we beat you" stuff....the Pats beat the hell out of the Jets in the regular season. That carries a lot of weight now.
Exactly. Its all on the Steelers D because we know our D can stop better offenses then theres. If we get our run game going again I dont see why we wont win this game.
are we forgetting something about the first half of that game or what? yeh the game ended close but it started out great for the jets. dont listen to a word of the commentators that all seem to absolutely love the steelers. the jets are in top gear right now and the defense will not let up. rex said it himself, hes been there as a coach 3 years in a row and hasnt made it to the show. this game is also personal, and we are going to take it to the house.
Anyone who thinks Troy being back for them does anything but help their defense is still drunk from Sunday. Also the type of player he is, a bad game like that will make him all the more hungry for Sunday with us. But he definately doesn't seem 100% but we can't count him completely out. That being said with the roll the Jets are on, and the amazing game plans of the last two weeks, I think we got this.
IMO, YAC is the best gauge for evaluating Wide Receivers. Completions and yards/catch are often by-products of QB play and the overall offensive system the team is running.
Some guy on this board named SOXX wrote " 'm not sure, he completely missed a huge tackle in the Ravens game. He isn't the same guy he was a couple years ago," LOL are you serious? I thought New Yorkers were intelligent? Look at how many game changing plays he made this year. He has been nursing a bad achilles and was not 100 % against the Ravens. FYI the bookies say that when Polamolu plays he is worth 1 point in Vegas. Fagetaboutit
What they said...I can't believe you would even THINK of taking your receiver corps over the Jets. In fact...I remember going to the Squeeler boards after you traded Holmes to us...and to a man/woman/post of the board you were ALL lamenting the loss. Sooooo...I'll let that speak for itself.
You gotta remember that was before Mike Wallace proved himself as a legitimate #1 receiver. and on top of that no one ever expected 2 rookies by the names of Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown to be as good as they are.
Sanders and brown are nice players but I'd take: Holmes, Braylon, Cotchery, and Keller Over Ward, Speedy Gonzalez, Sanders, Brown, and Miller
Don't forget Smith, he's been great when thrown at. Such a versatile player too, Steelers don't have anyone like him. Oh and we might sign Dan Rather from our practice squad-
As a Steelers fan you look pretty clueless. Holmes would of had 1000 yard seasons in 5 of his 6 seasons except he had small nagging injuries/suspensions in 3 of them, and his rookie season he didnt start the entire season. Braylon played for an god awful QB/team, and Jco was 3rd string WR or had poor/bad qbs for much of the year. So yes your 35 year old reciever whose career is incredibly close to done has more 1000 yard seasons than our young stud recievers. Gratz I guess ? Not to mention the Jets are a run first team, the Steelers are just a team that wishes they could run.
Hey guys, I'll try to be as unbiased as I can possibly can. To start things off, Troy Polamalu is an elite safety. He's one of the best players in the entire league, and he is the glue that holds Pittsburgh's entire defense together. Yes, he has a very unconventional way of tackling players, mainly due to the fact that he doesn't like to wrap up. This is a result of his small size when he was younger (5'10 and 210 lbs., basically a heavy CB), and couldn't bring down bigger players with traditional technique. He learned to throw himself low, and it usually works. This past week, as it has happened in many prior occasions, his "technique" backfired. This, however, is something that I credit more to Ray Rice than to Troy Polamalu. Ray Rice is similar to Maurice Jones-Drew in the fact that their center of gravity lies in their thighs, and they're very hard to bring down. I don't see Tomlinson as that kind of RB, Green could be. IMO, Green is tougher to bring down. And no, Polamalu isn't worsening, quite the contrary, he's in the prime of his career. He has, however, been hampered by a lingering Achilles injury that doesn't allow him to be as explosive as he can be. Polamalu is still playing at a high level and is still an integral part of Pittsburgh's defense, and yes, your offense has to account for him for every single play. Regarding the battle between Pittsburgh's defensive line and your offensive line, it's going to be a great one. I believe you have the best offensive line in the league, and we have the best defensive line. Don't really know stats about your team, but Pitsburgh's rush defense was the fifth best in NFL history this season, and that's largely in part to their defensive line. No, I don't expect Aaron Smith to play, but that's not a big deal, Ziggy Hood has been playing extremely well as of late. Regarding our LB's and the sacks we had last game, I believe that was one game where we were dialing down on the blitz. Your O-line was a big part of it though, you kept our guys in check, but I do expect them to have more than one sack this game. We had 6 vs. Baltimore, so I wouldn't be surprised to see 3 vs. the Jets. Regarding our O-line, it sucks, and we know it. We allowed 6 sacks against the Ravens and I wouldn't be surprised if you guys get the same number of sacks. And regarding the last game, while you ultimately did win it, we had the better offensive performance that game: PIT: 264 passing yards 147 rushing yards 378 total yards 25 first downs 2 offensive TD's Time of Possession - 31:18 Third down efficiency: 11/17 (65%) NYJ: 170 passing yards 106 rushing yards 276 total yards 17 first downs 1 offensive TD Time of Possession - 28:42 Third down efficiency: 6/13 (46%) You, however, made the plays required to win, more specifically the opening KR touchdown and the clutch safety. For this game, I think it will be the same. The winning team will make those key plays to win, most likely capitalizing on the mistakes of other teams. Regarding the receiving group, it's pretty close, and I don't think you can clearly say one is better than the other. Braylon Edwards > Hines Ward Ward is old and struggles to get separation. He won't stretch the field, isn't a depth threat, and can't "go up" to get the ball in a jump ball situation. That being said, he does have very reliable hands and is tough as nails. Still a very good blocker during runs, and he won't back down from going over the middle. Edwards doesn't have as good hands, but he's a much better athlete and can do the other things that Hines can't. Mike Wallace > Santonio Holmes This might seem controversial for some, but this is coming from a Steelers fan that was very, VERY, disappointed to see Holmes' leave. Wallace started out the season as a one trick pony who only ran deep routes and burned players. He is much, much more than that right now. Wallace picked up right where Holmes left off and the receiving group has not missed a beat. Wallace is faster than Holmes, and has less drops. Furthermore, Wallace picked up Holmes' routes, including the quick slants and screens. Holmes has superior route running ability, he runs some of the nicest routes in the league, but he drops some very, very catch-able balls. It was a problem that he had in Pittsburgh and it's a problem that he has in New York. He is clutch in the endzone, evidenced by his catch in the Superbowl and the catch this past weekend. Wallace is clutch in the endzone too. Look up his game winning catch vs. the Packers last year for evidence. Jerrico Cotchery = Emmanuel Sanders Both are quick guys with reliable hands who will ultimately be the key factors in this game. I fully expect Revis and Cromartie to shut down Ward and Wallace, but I also expect Ike Taylor and Bryant McFadden/William Gay limit what Edwards and Holmes do. I know you guys might not think much of our CB's, but Taylor is underrated, and McFadden/Gay can have some solid games. For arguments' sake, here is what the Ravens' receivers did to us this past game: Anquan Boldin: 1 catch for -2 yards. T.J. Houshmandzadeh: 3 catches for 38 yards. Derrick Mason: 0 catches. That's pretty good, if you ask me. Anyways, Cotchery and Sanders were our most important receivers this past games (stats wise) and I expect that trend to continue. Miller and Keller are also pretty important to our respective teams too. Ultimately, as I said above, this game will come down to execution, or lack of. Tough game for sure, and I wish you guys the best of luck on Sunday.
Solid take. Good post, no excellent post, however... I disagree in these areas: Polamalu as much as he can make big plays, can also be a liability. Clark has to play at home to cover for him when he free lances. That means either Edwrads or Holmes is one on one with a CB. Taylor is a slightly above average CB, but Gay and McFadden can be toasted, and will be tested. That is one of the biggest mismatches of the game. Our WR's vs your corners. I think the WR's from both teams are close to equal. Ward can still make big first down catches and remains the best run blocking WR in the NFL, although I hate that smile of his. Wallace may be the fastest man in the NFL, but not so fast that he'll leave Revis in the dust. Revis will maul him at the LoS and then stay with him. Revis can hold better than any CB in the league without drawing a flag. Just enough to interfere, but not enough for a PI of holding call. You mentioned Edward's hands. He has been incredibly good at catching the ball this year. something he worked on the entire off season, and this year has been our most reliable WR in terms of drops... he might have 2. If Polamalu plays up, Holmes can get behind him, and Clark is no match for Holmes. He will leave Gay in a cloud of dust. Sanders and Brown are very good #3 and #4 WR's. Miller is one of the most under rated TE's in the NFL. Can block, runs good routes, is hard for most LB's to cover and has great hands. Hard to bring down too. Keller gets Timmons, and he is a great cover LB, tough matchup. I think the reciveing corps are about equal, but your D backfield just can't cover like ours can, so that is a mismatch. I won't give you and edge on the front three either. I think it's about equal. Pouha and Devito have really come around, and Ellis comes off perhaps the best game of his career. Now, how do they match up against the opposing O lines? other than Pouncey who some argue is Mangold's equal ( I disagree) our O line is clearly better in both run blocking and pass protect. In the last game, the Jets nearly doubled what the PIT defense usually gives up on the ground. The Steeler LB's are better than out 4. Neither Harris or Scott have the speed of Timmons, and that's good for Miller and run plays to the outside. Harrison and Woodley are bigger play makers than Pace, Thomas and Taylor. Having said that, Mendenhall won't find much running in the middle. That is where Harris and Scott are very tough. We have the edge on ST's. You have a better FG kicker, we have the better punter, although he sucked against NE. It will IMO still boil down to Sanchez playing mistake free and being accurate. I think the O line will give him enough time. Rothlisberger is Rothlisberger. He's a freak of nature. Hard to bring down, and doesn't get rattled like other QB's that get mauled. Ngati broke the guy's freakin nose, and he didn't even know it till he looked in the mirror at halftime. He's like a fuckin cyborg or something. He can extend the play, but the Jets' D backs won't be easy pickins like the Ravens were. Ask Brady about that. We have to hope he forces the ball when he starts running around. It will likely be all about the turnovers in the end.
We have the talent to beat anyone at any moment. Holmes, Edwards, J-Co, Keller...are deadly weapons for an offense & our team is finally peaking with that talent @ the rite time. 60 MIN of never quit football! Go jets!!
