Quit changing the subject. This is about Champs' perceived welcome in Austin on March 10. This thread has been long-since hijacked.
The size speed and strength numbers sound like ben watson- except watson also got a 41 on the wonderlic- 3rd highest of all players last year. I was kind of surprised that the patriots picked watson since he sounded like more of a workout warrior than a football player but maybe it was his intelligence that sold them. Can vernon davis play up to his workout numbers?
He is a late first, early second round pick, they were talking about him on the radio yesterday. He sounds like a beast, he will make some team very happy.
ya think he can catch the ball.....all those figures mean nothing if he turns out to be another Becht/ Jolley
I saw him work out at the combine on the NFL network it was amazing, but why would we even want him when we have Doug Jolly. (a joke)
hey, i would take him.......Im in love with VD, he is a freak....pick 4 may be a little high, but if we trade down to say...7-10, take him
i dont know, antonio gates has the pleasure of defenses keying in on LT. so where he's actually drafted will mean alot. as far as physically, Vernon Davis will make boys of men in the pro's as a rookie. I've watched him for a few yrs now and he plays with such tenacity and heart.
Hey Champ, maybe you'll piss off some alcoholic cowboy and he'll beat the snot out of you.... A guy can hope right?
hes the complete package, he could play FB if asked. hes a angry blocker who can create space with speed, will catch it and then punish you.
The guy's talented, for sure, but you don't draft tight ends that high. Take a look at TE's drafted since 1992. About half of them are major flops. The upside is not high enough at the TE position to take a guy in the top 10. 2005 Heath Miller (30th overall) - promising talent, starter 2004 Kellen Winslow Jr (6th) - bust (injury prone, poor attitude) Ben Watson (32nd) - promising talent 2003 Dallas Clark (24th) - solid starter 2002 Jeremy Shockey (12th) - talented pro bowl talent; comBUSTable attitude Daniel Graham (21st) - has shown flashes of talent; inconsistent Jeremy Stevens (28th) - same as Graham; also known as "Joey Porter's bitch" 2001 Todd Heap (31) - talented, but fragile 2000 Bubba Franks (14th) - inconsistent, poor blocker Anthony Becht (27th) - B.U.S.T.!!! 1999 none 1998 none 1997 Tony Gonzalez (13th) - Pro Bowler; TE every GM is shooting for in the 1st RD David LaFleur (22nd) - BUST; TE ever GM fears taking in 1st RD 1996 Rickey Dudley (9th) - Big time bust; Great athletic numbers, bad hands. 1995 Kyle Brady (9th) - Bust; Great blocker with stone hands Mark Bruener (27th) - solid starter; Blocking TE 1994 None 1993 Irv Smith (20th) - who?? 1992 Derrek Brown (14th) - Bust; just an awful waste of a draft pick Johnny Mitchell (15th) - Bust; flashed physical talent; mental case
dont get me wrong i love davis think he is gonna be a great TE.... but theres no way we draft him at #4
In 95 Rick Kotite passed on Sapp and took Kyle Brady because he was the "best guy on the board" (according to Kotite). Let's not the same kind of error.
If we could get a top ten 1st round pick for Abe I wouldn't mind this pick. But to use our #4 on a TE would be stupid at this point. I would rather have a TE than an OL or DL, at least he would touch the ball.
