Winning on the road is always tough in this league...especially in Nov/Dec when the games take on more meaning. I love the 4-0 start...it's quite impressive...but the next 5...yikes. At New England, at Minnesota, at Buffalo, at Seattle, at Miami. All teams with playoff aspirations. Buffalo and Miami will want revenge! Seattle will be much tougher than expected...especially on New Years Day with that crowd. That's a tough week to travel across the country. I think we need to (and should) win all 3 games left at home (Chicago, Detroit, Jacksonville) and at least 1 (hopefully more) on the road. 10-7 should be good enough. A win on the 20th vs NE would be massive! As Bart said...Can't Wait!
Looks like 4 wins over the last 8 to me. If the Jets beat the Pats in two weeks it will be 5. Huge game there since I think a Jets win takes our playoff chances up very high.
From the Tweets it sure looks like Cimini gets his numbers from "ESPN Analytics" and Zack gets his from "FiveThirtyEight." I'd guess each uses a proprietary formula.
Essentially there are 9 teams competing for 7 playoff spots in the AFC. And what's insane is that only 1.5 games separate the top seed from #9. Gonna be a fun 2 months.
Hey Zach ... the recipe is pretty simple for 2022. Don't be stupid with the ball, and give us 25 pass attempts for 175 yards ... 7.0 YPA ... And scramble for a first down or two each game if its not too much trouble. If we get that much from the QB, our running game plus a Top 5, turnover-generating defense should get us into the playoffs. I'll worry about 2023 when we get there.
I'll go all out with this crazy proclamation now regarding the Jets and playoffs. . Many will not agree with it but that's what this forum is all about. Expressing one's opinions and hopes. Win next game and we are in. If the Jets beat the Pats in two weeks we are almost guaranteed a playoff spot. We would have slayed the dragon finally, booster the team confidence to a new level, move forward 3-1 in the division and two games ahead of NE which is a great way to end the 12 year drought. The only danger after that is the faith of Cincinnati and or the Ravens since they both beat us. But I'll conservative give the Jets 2-3 losses after that and we are still in. Go Jets
Actually, many will agree with this. Win and we are in like you say. After we are 7-3 and at 3-1 in the division, I see hard time not making the playoffs.
Why is it that the second I read this I pictured a guy in a jets uniform telling someone to hold his beer?
Amen to this. If we remotely look past the Pats we would be fools. Beat the opponent in front of you and don't look past that. Especially an opponent that is in your division, and next up for a wild card. This game is huge.
Fortunately none of us are players on the field so us (fans) looking past the Pats will have zero impact on the outcome Now back to the playoff rooting thread.. A win this weekend pretty much ends the Pats playoff hopes and knocks them out -- 2x Buffalo, 1x Miami, 1x Cinci with already 5 losses.
This is a huge game. If the Jets can manage to beat New England this week, they would need three wins with Chicago, Detroit and Jacksonville all remaining on the schedule. Seattle, Minnesota, Buffalo and Miami are obviously winnable games as well, but I'm not nearly as confident about that. That would put them at 10 wins, which would more than likely make them a wild card team.
In a sense, this is much bigger than a game that leads to a playoff berth, it's a true "statement" game. If the Jets are truly on the road to the playoffs, they first must slay the myth of "invincibility" that Belichick represents to them. It may well be true that this team is filled with enough youth and new blood that they currently don't believe in this myth, but the fans do, and if they lose once again, that myth will be amplified to the point where even these youngsters will start wondering if it's true, and even begin believing it themselves, and thus begins a new generation of SOJ thinking. This game is HUGE.
Keep in mind the Bengals and Ravens tie breakers only come into play for a WC really. One of those teams will win the division. In regards to making the playoffs the Jets really just need to split the next 8 games - although winning 5 of them should guarantee playoffs. But right now the most important game on the schedule is NE for many reasons including the division is still in play.
