Wohoo the Steelers won so they'll be very motivated! So this is the PO picture:

Ravens 8 - 6 From our standpoint they are in no matter what... I can't see them loosing 2 in a row.

Denver 8 - 6 Pretty sure they'll loose to Philly

Dolphins 7 - 7 Hard match against Houston but they could win it

Jaguars 7 - 7 Loosing to NE for sure.

Jets 7 - 7 WIll we win out?

Other 7 - 7 teams we don't care about 'cause we have the tie-breaker are Houston, Titans and Steelers.

The 3 teams ahead of us (not counting the Ravens who anyways play the Raiders on wk 17) all have a difficult task on week 16... if they don't loose then I don't think they'll loose to crappy teams on week 17.

God, next week will be exciting :D!

If Pit goes 9-7, how do we get the tiebreaker over them?
Also, how does KC beat the Broncos and how do we win a tiebreaker vs Denver?

This season has the same feel as 2002, a new QB, we were 7-6 then and lost to chicago in heart breaking fashion, YET the jets made the playoffs. The jets just lost to an NFC team in bad fashion

    YET

every team that had to lose lost Miami and Denver, and Pitt won. Yeah its still a long shot to make it, but the fact that the Jets could actually get the 5 seed makes you think that the long shot is still a shot. Who would have thought at the beginning of the day that 9-7 could actually get you the 5 seed, certainly not me.

Along with Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, and half of their defensive starters.

That's because the Dolphins are #2 and we are #3 in the div.

The first tie breake is eliminating everyone under #2 position. If the Dolphins loose one of their final two we immidately jump ahead of TENN and PITT (and MIA of course).

Steelers are behind the Jets, they have have 6 conference losses, and don't have a better common games record than the Jets. Same with the Titans. Jacksonville, Miami, Baltimore, and Denver stand in the way.

Thats how it unfolds with the 6 (7-7) teams. Now, after Week 17, it won't look like that.

news flash, the would have been motivated anyways. don't project your insecurities about a team's motivation onto them as if it is only dependent on certain elements, it makes you sound ridiculous.

One thing is playing to beat a div opponent... another is to play to beat a div opponent AND getting to the playoffs.

In both cases you are motivated... but in case 2 you are more motivated than in case 1.

    What's wrong with that thinking?

the most unlikely part of the whole thing would be the Jets winning twice.

Anyway, if we win twice and Pittsburgh beats both Miami and Baltimore (plus Jacksonville and Denver each losing once), we beat out Pittsburgh thanks to a better conference record.

    So go Steelers.

For those of you crazy enough to believe this might actually happen...

TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM

If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.

    1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tiebreaker. 2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.

Two Clubs 1. Head-to-head, if applicable. 2. Best won-lost percentage in games played within the conference. 3. Best won-lost percentage in common games, minimum of four. 4. Strength of victory. 5. Strength of schedule. 6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed. 7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed. 8. Best net points in conference games. 9. Best net points in all games. 10. Best net touchdowns in all games. 11. Coin toss.

Three or More Clubs (Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tiebreaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)

    1. Apply division tiebreaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tiebreaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants. 2. Head-to-head sweep. 3. Best won-lost percentage in games played within the conference. 4. Best won-lost percentage in common games, minimum of four. 5. Strength of victory. 6. Strength of schedule. 7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed. 8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed. 9. Best net points in conference games. 10. Best net points in all games. 11. Best net touchdowns in all games. 12. Coin toss

The way it is working out, this game could be pretty meaningless when all is said and done. Our playoff chances still hinge on beating Indy and Cincy, that wouldn't have changed even if we would have won this one. That lessens the sting of today just a bit. I find it highly we would have beaten both Indy and Cinci anyway.

Rex is going to have to retract that the team is dead tomorrow. If you remember his press conference after the game he talked about the playoffs being gone, Jets will win the Super Bowl but not this year, haha. :)

Yea, it seems like the only damage done by this lose is that now Miami and Jags has to lose another game. Even if the Jets won, we still needed a Ravens lose and to win out...

Wow. We still have a realistic chance of making the playoffs. How the fuck can you screw up three FGs in one game? How. We would be so golden right now.
