Lorenzo Neal was telling my cousin after the game that he was interested in coming to the Jets...i guess he was chilling with him at a party with ray lewis and the guys and they started talking about it. I don't think we need to replace richardson but just throwing it out there.
The Baltimore Sun suspects impending free agent WLB Bart Scott could be the odd man out with the Ravens expected to focus on keeping Terrell Suggs and Ray Lewis. Suggs may be the team's first priority, and he has a monster contract coming. Lewis is expected to be pursued heavily by the Cowboys, but it's hard to picture the man who has come personify the Ravens franchise in a different uniform. If Scott is allowed to walk, he could be replaced by Jameel McClain. Source: Baltimore Sun
I would love if Scott were let go by the Ravens. I'd think he'd come straight to the Jets to play with Ryan. And not only could we use his defensive leadership & experience, we are also in need of an ILB. So it would be a perfect match.
Bart Scott is the ideal signing. He's a very good player, and it gives us more flexibility heading into the draft. You can't really ask for a better scenario.
I was curious too, nobody said his name about moving from the Ravens. However, Pryce is under contract until 2010. We could only get him through a trade or if he is released...
From wikipedia: Also, from a FoxSports report I can't imagine that the Ravens will franchise Lewis at his age. Putting the franchise tag on Suggs again would not, in my opinion, be a good strategy either due to the ill will that would be caused by such a move.
Scott is the guy that should be of greatest interest to the Jets. David Bowens is the ideal player for this scheme and will probably be retained. Ryan's scheme stresses versatility. Scott is exactly what we need. I am curious to see how Thomas and Gholston adjust...excited to see how Pace will do. Leonhard is a very nice return man but last I checked ours was pretty good too. I don't know that he'd be a significant upgrade. I think Scott's got to be the guy, and they'll address other concerns during the draft. -X-
Leonhard does well on punt returns and if we're actually going to expand Leon's roll in the offense we would most likely want to take him off one of the return spots to just keep him from wearing himself down all season. Plus, he's a better option to start at safety than most of the other guys on the roster, definitely an upgrade as a back-up too, and he's not going to be too expensive. We probably shouldn't target him with a huge contract but he'd be a good fall back option if we can't bring in a bigger talent.
Leonhard is not a terribly big guy and if he's going to be your starting safety you don't want him returning kicks. The best option in free agency for the Jets would be Sean Jones of the Cleveland Browns. He's 27 years old, adept at getting the football, and he and Rhodes would give us both size and athleticism that we've never had at the position. -X-
Ahh, the original wording confused me. Hasn't there been a big hubbub about franchising players multiple years in a row? I thought that didn't work well generally as it tends to lead to hold-outs. I even have a fuzzy gray memory of the rule being changed to no longer allow serial use of the tag...
