The Giants could have gotten stoned by waiting on Eli. At the last minute he proved out and they went on a lucky run to a trophy. Then did it 4 years later. It was good luck on their part that they got two Lombardi's out of a QB who is only 17 games over .500 in an 11 year career now and has a lifetime QB rating of 83 or so.
We've mastered the impatient approach. Maybe we should try the opposite for once and see if we get lucky too. Side note: not exactly sure what QB rating has to do with anything.
This is what happens when U root for a team boko years and see nothing to show for it. Impatiences comes with losing and in our case it seems to happen far too often..
QB Rating means what it's always meant: the QB was better or worse at 4 specific things than most QB's. The 4 things being completion percentage, yards per attempt, interception percentage and TD percentage. In this era QB's with 82.5 QB Ratings don't usually win a Super Bowl, let alone two of them. Line up all the QB's who have won Championships since the Brady Bunch got started and Eli is the worst of them in that regard, tied with Brad Johnson at 82.5. Tom Brady 95.9 Brad Johnson 82.5 Ben Roethlisberger 93.9 Peyton Manning 97.6 Eli Manning 82.5 Drew Brees 95.6 Aaron Rodgers 105.8 (In Green Bay, jeez...) Joe Flacco (84.6) Russell Wilson (98.9)
Bill Belichick from all accounts is as involved in the offense as the defense, and you could make a really good argument that Brady is Brady because of the coaching he received. They went 11-5 with Cassel ffs. With Rex it is different. If Rex were QB neutral and had a decent OC that ran that side of the ball that would be OK most likely. But he is not. He has a HUGE influence on the offense, MM even SAID it last week. And that influence is NEGATIVE. He forces a super conservative gameplan on the offense, forces the wildcat and direct snaps, negatively reinforces the QB, and blitzes continuously in practice never letting the QB develop any rhythm. He even went with RED, WHITE, BLUE with Sanchez. Rex is the reason that our offense sucks. He has had 3 OCs and our offense has looked the same with each of them. He needs to GO.
I am unsure which point you are trying to make here. Should we show this patience with Idzik, who, despite everyone wanting him to hang by his nuts on the GW Bridge, has the team in a favorable position for other GMs, or should we continue to show 'patience' with Rex, who has been shown more patience than an entire seminary of monks?
So in this era 4 SuperBowls were won with QBs that had QB ratings of 85 or less. The others were by future HOFers with exception to Wilson who's too early to tell. Should the Giants have been impatient like the Jets would have probably been given the same situation and give up on Eli because his QB rating was not up to par with the likes of Brady? Is that our plan; nip in the bud anything short of HOF caliber?
In 2011 the Jets and the Giants were both 7-7 going into game 15 against each other. The odds on either of them winning the Super Bowl at that point were probably 50-1. Luck, big time luck for the Giants. It skews our perspective on everything else at this point.
My point was simply that we are an impatient bunch. The fact that you equate the "patience" allotted to Rex to that displayed by entire seminary of monks is case in point. With regards to how this relates to the topic at hand, I'd be more inclined to keep Rex before Idzik as he has proven he can win with talent. I was an Idzik critic well before there were billboards, banners and towels; so I am somewhat indifferent about his status. I could stomach Idzik coming back provided Terry Bradway and the scouting department is completely revamped. If you want to talk about seminary monks type patience, there is no better example than Mr. Badway.
Lucky for us, too. If we had won that game I bet the Patriots would have won the Super Bowl. Giants would have been eliminated from the playoffs and thus never made it to the big game. Not sure who would have played the Pats, and I'm sure the Pats could still have lost, but I wouldn't want a do-over. I was at that game. Thank you for the 99-yard td Cruz, haha.
Football is a game of brainwashing. The players of nearly every team, live and die for their coach, even when he sucks. Do you know how many proven failure coaches have these same player reactions when they are fired? Probably 75%.
If we win that game there's a good chance we make the playoffs. The Bengals got in at 9-7 with a 6-6 vs the AFC. We wound up 8-8 with a 6-6 vs the AFC. The last game against the Fins could have gone either way but the Jets were in a huge funk for most of the game as a hangover from the previous week's loss to the Giants. Santonio Holmes had been sulking all week, missing meetings and dissing Sanchez in the process. It's at least 50/50 we make the playoffs if we beat the Giants in week 15 and then we go into Houston for the WC and Rex owns the Texans again.
Skews your perspective not mine. A top QB pick has to be Ryan Leaf Jarmarcus Russell level bad for me to completely give up on the investment. Note said QB may force me to bring in competition but cutting bait for nothing more than obligatory "he couldn't get it done here" argument is moronic in my book. That's why I find the Cutler and Ryan becoming available scenarios equally ridiculous. My only requirement for a QB is that I can win with a QB; I could give 2 shits about QB rating. Note The Giants did the right thing and were rewarded handsomely for it. Chasing the mystical "franchise" which for many is really just a high fantasy football draft worthy QB just breeds sustainable failure. Besides Jets fans wouldn't know a franchise QB if he spat in their face as we are always admiring other people's grass.
To be honest...it is a Jets thing... I also think there is something to the "lack of patience" theory being bantered about as well. Ryan has definitely proven he can win with talent. Idzik has proven he can't get talent. But, alas...as it's been discussed over and over...it IS time for a full cleaning. If I'm Ryan I hope Arthur Blank, down in Atlanta, has left me a voice message on my phone. Ryan goes down to Atlanta right now and they are the next Patriots of the NFC...Matt Ryan/Julio Jones are young enough they could go on a decade plus run. "Why" would Rex want to stay with this pooch screw. In fact, I'm not so sure I'd stay, if I were him, if they asked me to. Johnson has this whole situation a mess and there is no end in site. Better than half the NFL and "talking heads" are on record that Rex Ryan has received a "raw deal" here so yeah, he's going to get a gig...and soon...and it will be in a location a hell of a lot better than what we have here.
I couldn't agree with you more as per Bradway and even the indifference about Idzik. But to me, Rex has shown only that he could make somewhat of a run when handed the keys to a team with most of the key ingredients in place. When the piper came to collect for the 'all-in' gamble of 2010, he hasn't been able to right the ship at all. It is so much more than just good vs. bad players.
