I think what he's getting at is that the head coach should be personally invested and responsible in the development and week to week progress of the most important position in team sports if he wants to be successful. if the head coach isn't in tune with his field general how can he possibly steer the ship in the right direction? rex wants to tinker with his precious defense and give rah rah speeches and take a back seat while letting someone else handle the most important aspect of his teams success ... the qb position. Belichick on the other hand is making sure he and Brady are always on the same page. probably because he knows what's good for him.
I understand all that. But Im just saying its a lot easier with a Brady or Rodgers then it is with Geno Smith.
you don't understand. Brady isn't brady without belichick. rodgers isn't Rodgers without Mccarthy. rex isn't developing qbs.
Well thats where me and you are going to differ on opinion. How come Belicheck didnt develop a Brady when he was in Cleveland? Just curious
I really hope Rex Ryan is still the HC of the NY Jets next year and all you haters kill yourselves over it. TGG would be such a much nicer place to come visit. How's this: Woody takes the keys from Idzik and hands them to Rex.
Sometimes coaches need to fail to understand there shortcomings before they can have success. even with the effort from the hc though, it so takes a special athlete. but with the complete lack of effort from the coach I'd say it's pretty much impossible. you have to have both.
I think Brady and Rodgers would be great players on the Providence Steamrollers. And in spite of the coaches. Just so happens they ended up with good (McCarthy) great (Belichick) head coaches.
For whatever reason the Browns did not draft a QB until Belichik's last year there when they took Eric Zeier in the 3rd round. They did make a 12th round throwaway pick in Belichik's 2nd year. Kosar was the Brown's franchise QB at 28 when Belichik arrived. He played one full season then got hurt back to back seasons in 92 and 93 and by 94 the Browns were ready to draft his replacement but they were also about ready to run Belichik out of town.
One thing to consider if one is advocating Rex coming back is next year going to be another produce now or your fired scenario or we actually going to commit to the rebuilding process? The atmosphere created is toxic and almost always leads to failure when a coach is playing year to year and in the rare case like this year when assistant coaches are also coaching on one year contracts rather than the standard 2 years. If the Jets hire a new GM and he brings back Rex it can't be on a one year basis again they either need to commit to Rex and the CS or move on and commit to the new coach. What Woody did this year and last was awful. One year prove it deals for coaches just creates a circus unstable atmosphere.
That imaginary "just couldn't get it done here" list is getting mighty long. Is it a NY thing or just a Jets thing as the Giants don't seem to have that problem?
100% on the money. Will have to go a long way to find a better coach. What we need is a real OC and a better QB.
The Jets have truly rotten luck with QB's. That's the difference between them and the Giants right now,
Andy Reid went to five NFC championships, took his team to the SB, and won ten playoff games. Reid had two bad seasons, and everyone was calling for his head, but here, we have Jets fans who want to keep Rex after four medicore seasons.
